  1. David Autor (http://econ-www.mit.edu/files/6516) is the most well known person, to my knowledge at least, that has gotten a PhD in public policy and gone on to be a full professor in a Top 5 economics department. So I suppose it's not completely unheard of although I don't believe it is very common for this to happen.
  2. I know my acceptance letter from Arizona came somewhere around March 15th last year.
  3. Agreed. I have seen this myself up close. Absolutely brilliant. Clearly we all should be viewing more of the accumulated works of the wise Tyler Perry.
  4. Yeah, I think it's fair to say you won't be accepted at the school that caught you. And dreck is right, your actions could be considered criminal. As for being blacklisted at other schools, that depends on whether the school that caught you feels like notifying other programs. Also, if any of your actual letter writers found out about this I'm sure (or hope) they had the sense to withdraw their letters from each school you applied to and furthermore notify each department. With that being said, I have to appreciate the hilarity of this situation. Did you really think you wouldn't get caught?
  5. Given all the discussion over height, I can't help myself but to post this: Height as a Proxy for Cognitive and Non-Cognitive Ability
  6. Both Arizona and Pitt have very good experimental and behavioral programs.
  7. The head of their favorite horse. That'll let them know you're serious.
  8. I asked for a deferral from a borderline Top 50sh school for the OPs same reasons and I was denied. I didn't explain why I was asking for the deferral but I was unfunded so maybe they assumed my intentions correctly. I was told by others there that in the past they had normally granted deferrals.
  9. Agreed. You life will become much easier if you use IPUMS.
  10. I'm currently leaning towards deferring for now and looking for a job while I take classes.
  11. I am currently accepted without funding at a Top 30sh institution without funding for the first year. I have no undergraduate loans but I like to think with an extra year or two to gain more math experience I could have better luck in a later admissions cycle. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a job in the meantime before my program starts. I have applied to numerous positions, had an interview or two, but have not been made a job offer. Should I consider deferring my admission for a year to look for a possible job while I take a few classes? And if not, is it possible to leave a PhD program in math camp to take a job and reapply later without having to technically transfer to another school? Any advice would be appreciated.
  12. Yours is a similar situation to mine. Have you applied for any research assistantships? Have you considered perhaps even taking a job for the year while you take one or two more classes?
  13. I agree but from talking with some of the people there I've gotten pretty comfortable with how they place their graduates.
  14. I'm not interested in going into a macro field anyways so that is ok. Urban is a big interest of mine and I'd be happy ending up there. I just wish I had a little more info about some recent placements.
  15. Used the text by DeLong and Olney. Focused on Solow growth, flexible and sticky price models, Phillips Curve, and IS-LM in addition to a section at the end on debt.
