  1. Nice profile, I'm not a consultant but I understand you could be a great prospect for schools like Yale or Berkeley. I think you have a very good chance in Harvard and Stanford but try to add a couple of schools to your list and don't forget to craft superb essays.
  2. Hi, I want to do an MBA on the US on a prestigious university. However I have a sort of rare problem. I think that my profile will come to admission committees as unbelievable or to good to be true. So I need some solid advice on how to showcase my candidacy. Here are some details about my profile: - 2 Majors: Information Systems Engineer Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra (#1 University of Dominican Republic) Honors: - GPA 3.3 .Top of the class, everybody works and studies and classes where deliver from 6 pm to 11pm (yes I did night school) - Chief of Dominican Delegation in the Iberoamerican Math Olympiads (This spot was reserved for Phds, but they made an excemption and appointed me as captain and chief trainer and then Delegation Chief) - As captain of the Math Olympiads I secured the Invitation of the Dominican Republic to the International Math Olympiads, reestructured the program, trained over 500 gifted students and defeated every Latinamerican country in the Algrebra department in the 2000 OIM in Venezuela. - Traveled to Costa Rica, El Salvador, Venezuela and Peru to represent the country in the OIM I also headed the chess team in university: - Sportsman of the Year - 1996 - Chess Trichampion 1996-1999 (Left School Undefeated) - The University went undefeated for 3 years on every inter university tournament. I was during this period the team captain. - Thesis: The First Ecommerce System of the Dominican Republic - We built the first prototye of the university application and matriculating system and integrated it with our country's major bank. During this period I also worked for the largest software development team in the country (500 programmers) on a software that sells for 2 million dollars. I also have a second major that I completed before turning 17 years old (I know, I know): Digital Electronics Technologist Instituto Politecnico Loyola (1991-1995) GPA: 3.8 Honors: - Medal Of Honor of the Technical School (only awarded in rare occasions to outstanding students that represent the pride of the institution) - Best Actor, Best Orator, Best Student (1994) - 1st Place in the National Math Olympiads 1994 - 3th Place in the National Math Olympiads 1995 - Traveled to Chile to represent the country in the OIM - Distinguished Citizen, awarded by the Gregorio Luperon Foundation of San Cristobal - Honorable Student, awarded by the Dominican Rotary Club - Thesis: Industrial Robotics in the Dominican Republic - An economic study of the impact of robotics on a developing nation Until this part everything seems normal, but now it gets really off the hook: Certifications: - Microsoft Certified Professional - Adobe Certified Professional (the first in the country) - 20 Brainbench Certifications - 3 Other Minor Certifications - In the Top 5 Certified professionals for 3 certifications in Brainbench - Adobe Official Curriculum Trainer for 3 years Work Experience Information Providers I founded a web develpoment company that services 60 clients, has completed over 120 projects, employs 30 freelances, manages 12 web properties (over 10k daily visits) and so on Owner 6 Years 12 International Web Design awards ** I started the company with exconvicts (yes you are reading right) under a citizen reinsertion program. Deloitte Consulting eBusiness Consultant 2 Years Outstanding work experience and outstanding achievements here Teen Stuff Magazine Egypt Web Master Yes I worked in Egypt Books: I don't even want to go here, I wrote 6 books just last year. It's not such a big deal because I mainly write poetry. Also wrote one award winning theater play. Trademarks and Patents: I hold 2 trademarks and I'm working on filing a patent for a new kind of theater (its called cinema theater and basically its a mix of holographic technology and cinema). Social Work I have secured scholarships, help, grants and food for hundreds of students, via the Math Olympiad Program. I've been involved in ecological groups (my father has a foundation) and child work ( I used to have a foundation). Yes I know, I know... I want to keep it short so I will withhold other information. My question is, will people in the universities read my profile? Where will my profile fit best (tier, program)? And essays just bullshit or do they actually read them? If I send photos/scans of the awards, medals and certifications, will they review them, or just plug my numbers into an equation? I want to apply on round 3. Maybe chicago, nyu, stanford, harvard, darden or columbia. I like oxford a lot, but i don't know if i can get in. Thanks, I really, really appreciate your replies.
  3. Your comments are great. And you guys have clearly hit the spot. I didn't write this to come as pompous. The thing is that I am a writer and my style is ratter witty. That's because I usually write comedies (have written a couple of scenes for movies under a course I'm doing), as well as several book. The piece was a first draft. A witty and entertaining story. I just posted the essay to get some feedback. So no harm done. I'm sorry to have come as bombastic. I was just telling real stories that happened in my life, with real copy. But I totally understand your angle and will certainly tone done, or better yet completely rewrite the essays. Regarding the consultant, I get your point, but the man is just trying to make a living. I will rewrite these essays and let you know when they are done. I truly have some great material. I have a book title 50 great harvard essays, but they are to staid. I will write more formally to mimic their style, but it would be hard to distinguish my self being so dry.
  4. Where, the problem with the essays is that they were written in a very creative way. Basiclly as an experiment. I'm getting mixed opinions All of this actually happened AS IT was told (except for the last act) A consultant said he liked: http://www.www.urch.com/forums/mba-admissions/5967-ask-admissionsconsultants-144.html#post688742 However just to be save ill rewrite this. However I'll keep them posted for a week to gain feedback. I'm a writer so I can always use this as a short story for my portfolio. Thanks for your comments.
  5. Just apply. I don't think you're less of a person because you have a low GPA. Just have some balls and say: despite having a low GPA I can handle the course work and will succeed in the MBA. And then put your money where your mouth is by getting a high gmat score. Give it a try!!
  6. As I see, you are a very strong contender. Your only real weak point is your work experience which has to be addressed with great letters of recommendation. Try to explain on your essays why you want an MBA art 23 y/o and you'll be fine. As for the schools, just apply to whichever schools you like. Pick some from the TOP 10, TOP 20 and so on. But try to focus, that is, find a match in values between your profile and schools as well as the MBA program you are applying to. If you would like to stay in IT management, Stanford, Berkeley and MIT are good choices but hard to get into.Carnegie Mellon, Texas at Austin and Georgia Tech are also good choices.
