  5. Bump! Someone must at least have a opinion the the first point, whether or not being out of academia for a year when the application is made will have an effect on future applications?
  6. So missed out on admission for 2008/2009, and now i have a couple of issues. Firstly I haven't done any meaningful work this year (been doing menial work just to get little money together), so will that be a negative point against my future applications? Secondly does anyone know of good places to RA at for next year, ideally either in the areas of experimental/behavioural Economics or game theory/industrial organistation as these are the only areas i feel confident of my abilities to be an effective RA in at this point? I don't really mind moving anywhere, but i'm only fluent in English. Thanks in advance!
  7. Hi, has anyone else applied to the MSc Economics program at the IHS-Vienna. I'm a little concerned, because my old lecturer thought i would have no problems getting in and they said that they would be conducting interviews this week, but i haven't heard anything. Has anyone heard from them? Here's my profile if anyone is interested, it did get me waitlisted at a couple of the places i had applied for http://www.www.urch.com/forums/phd-economics/107078-applying-phd-but-panicking-lot.html
  8. You could always break the ice with a joke, and ask them if they like fishsticks? Then see how they are going to fix the world....
  9. That would be brillant, but doubtful somehow. But at least this rejection gave me a chuckle as well!!
  10. I had one from Cornell that didnt spell Economics correctly, it was spelt "Ecnomics"....
  11. Again i got a rejection from them today without prompting them for my status. Haven't had the best day really...

    BU Day

Is anyone else still waiting to get a decision from Boston U?
  17. I've been thinking about them myself. But i'm too much of a wuss to call/too tight! Still haven't heard of any admits which didn't have a fellowship attached... Are they still on spring break, quite like the idea of adcoms cutting loose. On a different note my friend and I were amusing ourselves with the idea if instead of applying for phds in the traditional manner, they instead had a draft and have no. 1 picks and all that. :p
  18. I think that has been the trend in the past. But i haven't heard of anyone who has received a TA or RA with admission? Maybe need these are still to come before the unfunded offers trickle through. I'm really not sure, if anyone knows otherwise i'd would like to hear from them
  19. Institution: University of Chicago Program: PhD Decision: Rejected Cost: Pride(ish) Notification date: Today, Letter dated March 6 2009 Notified through: postal service
  20. I haven't heard anything either! But on TM and Gradcafe I've only seen the fellowship offers given, has anyone been offered a place via TA or RA. Or as i suspect, are they still to come? :hmm:
  21. I'm in the UK too and i've heard nothing too...
  22. I found this link, it gives the placement records of their students. Not that impressive in recent years considering their ranking. Is it just a lean period? http://www.arts.cornell.edu/econ/graduate/alums.pdf
  23. How many hours does heavy cover? Also, what are their placements like? Are they really that sub par. Makes me wonder now whether it was a good idea to apply... :hmm:
  24. Thanks, i'm a bit gutted. The link came up when they updated it saturday night i guess. I haven't been checking all through the weekend. If you check it now and it's not there then it's safe to assume that your ok for today. Good luck!
