  1. A states: A) If D, then A. This does imply that if not A then not D, however we are looking for if not D then not A. Its possible to have an E such that if E then D There can be no relation between E and A.
  2. The argument states that bats use the blood vessels as a mechanism for heat dispersion which is caused by flapping wings. What if Sandactylus has other mechanism for heat dispersion? (E) Heat generated by Sandactylus in flapping its wings in flight could not have been dispersed by anything other than the blood vessels in its wings.
  3. B fits well based on the conclusion.. C might look tempting, but try arbit numbers: assume 20K cars total, 600 are with radar, assume 100 got ticketed, then 33 with radar got ticketed.. so 100
  4. If Bank failure causes low confidence and low confidence causes recession then bank failure would cause recession would be a strengthener. However I get a feeling am using external knowledge and might be wrong! Effective_factor: OA please!
  5. Loggerhead turtles live and breed in distinct groups, of which some are in the Pacific Ocean and some are in the Atlantic. New evidence suggests that juvenile Pacific loggerheads that feed near the Baja peninsula hatch in Japanese waters 10,000 kilometers away. Ninety-five percent of the DNA samples taken from the Baja turtles match those taken from turtles at the Japanese nesting sites. Which one of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the reasoning above? The conclusion above is Pacific loggerheads feed in Baja but hatch in Japanese waters.. this is based on the evidence that 95% of DNA samples from loggerheads Baja match those in Japan. However, is this evidence sufficient for the conclusion.. D states that 95% of DNA samples from Baja match those in Atlantic... so the conclusion is weakened. Maybe its just the property of loggerheads to have high DNA correlation.. "hatching" conclusion is thus not correct!
  6. I would go with E, however its easy to fall for C by ASSUMING the disease is genetically passed.. Can you tell the source of this question please.. thanks!
  7. (D) Ninety-five percent of the DNA samples taken from the Baja turtles match those taken from Atlantic loggerhead turtles. If this were true then it would raise a doubt over the conclusion over presented evidence. Maybe its just a property of loggerheads to differentiate based on 5% of the DNA..
  8. I like these deductive rules, there is no language play.. if only all questions were deductive :D The correct answer is C. B'cos if not D then not C, If not C then not B, and if not B then not A. Someone had nicely put it on the board sometime back.. If I live in New York then I live in USA. i.e. If I do not live in USA then I do not live in New York..
  9. Thanks tpcool, On 2nd read, I agree that this simply means that recession will cause slowed economy growth plus few other things.. so in a way its not a strengthener! Looking at other options this one comes close, as its a cause (closure of bank) of the cause (confidence levels) which causes the result (recession): A recession can be brought on by the failure of a major bank that had been loaning money.
  10. Ouch, this is a tough one.. the question asks to identify MOST SERIOUS problem for the success of COMPANY's PLAN.. The plan is to CREATE NEW SOURCE OF PROFIT.. Man-made emeralds will not be considered as valuable as naturally produced emeralds. Yes, profits will be less then.. possible candidate. Natural emeralds are produced by heat and pressure much more frequently than by chemical action. Ruled out, frequency is not in question. The types of material from which emeralds are formed are not found on the Earth’s surface. Chosen ROCKS, maybe they are found underwater, on mountains.. so that doesnt require mining.. ruled out! Laboratory conditions are difficult to replicate in a large-scale factory. No mention of lab conditions.. The gases that will mix with superheated water are so toxic that workers could suffer from a number of serious medical conditions if the handling of such gases is not strictly controlled. Close one, however they might have an automated process.. and its not discussed in the argument! I will go with A.
  11. This argument links a few things to each other..i.e. since average net worth of American families was more in 1975-85 and the goverment regulation was highest therefor government regulation will not result in affecting competitive nature of companies today.. we can undermine it by stating that high net income was result of something else (whch has no impact by gov regulation): The increase in net worth of average American families during the years 1975–1985 was largely due to an increase in the value of residential homes.
  12. This is a classic cause - effect relationship.. Slowed economic growth is not the only result of a recession. This as indicated by argument is the EFFECT of recession! If the effect does not cause the cause then the argument is strengthened.
  13. The key word here is -- in effort to increase revenues -- if most passengers are traveling free then there is no increased revenue! Many travelers achieved reward tickets more quickly under the new frequent-flier program and redeemed them recently for free trav
  14. Lily indicates that taxes have benefits, and they outweight the dis-advantages. suggesting that the economic benefits of easy credit outweigh the danger of unemployment
  15. The first phrase states the conclusion and the second phrase supports the conclusion with an analogy.
  16. An anomaly I found in the OG, that the use of word "many" is sometimes abused. In one CR, based on the word "many" the reasoning was ..since many do it it is correct.. and in another the word "many" was written off by saying ..not everybody should be correct.. I am very sure these 2 CR's and reasoning were written by 2 different guys.. The point am making is.. its really HARD to GENERALIZE NON DEDUCTIVE rules.. like the CONTRADICTING the FACT - RARELY - here.. I will post the q from OG to make my point a bit more clear..
  17. I would assume this is from 10000CR.. mere guess based on previous posts by star.. For D, assume that rate of return on best investment has gone up from 10% to 20% and rate of inflation has gone up from 10% to 20% too.. so there is no change in actual rate of return which equals (rate of return - rate of inflation).
  18. Argument Construction: When inflation exceeds return on best investment then the value of any investment can be determined from these 2 factors. When inflation exceeds return on best investment in the market then .. its been a terrible year for the economy. Which one of the following logically completes the argument? A. the rate of inflation has risen Not necessarily true.. B. the investment in question matches the rate of inflation Nopes, its less than inflation, as stated. C. the investment in question does not have as good a rate of return as the best investment available Yup, the rate of return is negative here.. D. the rate of return on the best investment available has declined Might not necessarily be true.. we dont know for sure if this is true as previous data is not available. E. there has been a change in which particular investment happens to have the highest rate of return no.. C.
  19. Best response would mean that more than one response is possible.. (A) Does small business cooperation involve projects too big for a single small business to handle? Yes, we can answer this from the passage, however the passage is not the best response to this! (B) Does small business cooperation result in a pooling of financial and intellectual resources? Doesnt answer which specific resources.. eliminated! © Are joint projects between small businesses profitable enough to justify undertaking them? Doesnt answer this.. (D) Has small business cooperation in Canada been more common in the past than it currently is? minor resurgence in the past decade.. Close! (E) Are joint projects between small businesses likely to benefit all parties involved in the project equally? Not answered.. D.
  20. we are looking for a relationship between straight lines and involuntary social signal.. D. People laugh after straight lines because they believe they are expected to.
