  8. The highlighted portion gives the probability of one book being defective. In the random process, Selection of 1 defective book from 3 available defective books (3C1) and the selection of 1 non-defective book out of available 12 non-defective books (12C1) Total Possible outcomes of selecting 2 books from 15 available books = 15C2 So, probability of one book being defective = 3C1 X 12C1 / 15C2
  9. Though answer is correct, I didn't understand how 12C2/ 15C2 is correct?
  10. Exactly, what you are saying is correct. Rounded off to 290 ------> Range is 285 to 294 Rounded off to 12 -------> Range is 11.5 to 12.4 So, answer should be 285/12.4 and 294/11.5 OG is wrong, I understood this when I attempted this qn last month.

    SKA Music

For a generation of suppressed, restless, working-class youths living in 1960 Jamaica, ska was a medium through which they could find expression. Since its original appearance, ska has resurfaced twice, each time presenting itself in a different guise to a new generation of music aficionados. Overcoming its humble beginnings, it has become one of the twentieth century’s most enduring and influential styles of music. Since the early 1940's, Jamaica had adopted and adapted many forms of American musical styles. The predominantly black inhabitants of Jamaica took a liking to rhythm and blues music, importing a considerable number of American records that were showcased at dance halls in the early 1960s. Jamaican musicians took up the elements of rhythm and blues and combined it with traditional Jamaican mento music. The result was the first wave of ska. Musically, ska is a shuffle rhythm similar to mento but with even closer ties to rhythm and blues, placing the accent on the second and fourth beats, often moving in a 12-bar blues frame. The after beat, played on the piano or strummed by a rhythm guitar, came to be characteristic of the form. A horn section, usually consisting of trumpets, trombones, and saxophones, was a vital element. Classic bands, such as the Wailers wrote songs written about Trench Town (a ghetto), rude boys (street thugs), romance, and even religious themes. In 1965, ska began to take a backseat to a newly evolved type of music, called rock steady, which was more dependent than ska had been on rhythm provided by the bass guitar and drums. Ska was later exported by traveling Jamaican artists to Great Britain, where it became known as "blue beat." By the mid 1970's, early British punk bands were infusing reggae, a style of music that came from rock steady, into their music. Near the end of the decade, however, there was a resurgence of the influence of ska because of its upbeat, danceable rhythm. This faster paced ska came to be known as two tone. One of the essential messages of two-tone ska was the promotion of racial harmony and of having fun in the face of subjugation. The third wave of ska began in America around 1990. Bands influenced by the twotone ska scene began to use punk and metal music to a greater extent. The combination, which is much faster than two tone, sounds very different from the original Jamaican brand of ska. In its three different waves, ska has given voice to seemingly voiceless, downtrodden generations. Each time it resurfaces, a new message is taken up, however, the old messages are never forgotten. 3. Which of the following statements about ska music is supported by information in the passage? Rock steady is more dependent than ska on the rhythm provided by the bass guitar and drums. Reggae, which counts ska as one of its primary influences, developed only after it was exported by traveling Jamaican artists to Great Britain Ska’s appeal over the last half century has been limited to voiceless, downtrodden generations. Two-tone is a faster paced form of ska that developed in the late 1970s Mento music places the accent on the second and fourth beats, often moving in a 12- bar blues-frame.

  13. Imo D. Over the time peroid, when both inflation and returns on investment increases, and if inflation exceed this returns -----> that means the value of invested money is declined. This means, the rate of return on the best investment available has declined
  14. Imo D. When salt is one among the factors, we cannot make salt as sole culprit. Blood pressure could be due to any change in diet.
  15. Stuck between A and C. pls help. A. Why can't we assume, both groups have different plants. All plants of Group A died and Group B survived. That means, say some plant X is present in both group. Now, Plant X in Group A died but not in Group B. As per this logic, A doesn't weaken the conclusion scientist made. Instead, it serves as irrelevant/ neutral (similar to B where whether light is less bright or not during the day. it affects both the groups) to conclusion. C. Why can't we assume like, just coz plants thrived during the experimental period, scientist concluded traffic sounds help in plants to grow. But in next few days, even these plants died. So, it states traffic sounds didn't help in plants grow, instead its negative effect was bit slow compared to thunder storms sound. This weakens scientist's conclusion Imo C.
  16. Imo D. Many employees suffer from cold. Productivity of the company is going down. So comapny is planning to distribute medicines for cold so that productivity increases. Recovery from illness (Cold is an illness) >> prductivity increases in evey area (job is major area in life). But I couldn't eliminate B as well.
  17. Imo E. Domesticated animals are limited sample. Coz of the word 'presumably' 2nd one can be treated as conclusion based on this generalization. Is this correct?
  18. Imo C. A, B, E are rejected because, first is against the analyst's conclusion. D is wrong coz, second part never explained why the first part is wrong.
  19. Imo B. Based on the statements "and this proportion should be revised every year based on the number of firms that exceeded the limit the year before......." I couldn't see any other statements which stated no. of firms exceeding the limit increased over the period of time.
  20. Hello Bud, I was pissed off.... Though I went with E, I could digest A as answer :) But not other options. Neways, post the explanation if you have one.
  21. Imo C. Statements have 2 points. One advantage and one drawback. A concentrates only on advantage part. For thsi question disadvantage part of the answer was not required. B is in too generalized form. D Past - Present - Future cannot be the question for these statements. E concentrates only on disadvantage part. For this question, advantage part of answer was not required. C is correct and is the proper question for the statements made
  22. Imo D. The logic of existence of 'personal savings accounts for Social Security' confirms the prediction that 'hard work makes people earn more during their young age'. But this prediction offers a generalization which is against the lobbyist's belief.
  23. I am surprised, no doubt hehe. I eliminated B thinking, Second part is the conclusion and not the potential weakness !!! I agree second part is in opposition with first part. But can anyone explain the meaning (esp. meaning for bold words) of 'The first presents an example that the musician believes supports her conclusion'. Mission800 and RajatMeh answered Imo B. Please advice.
  24. yes John. If the first offers a pattern of cause and effect ("If they had kicked me out of the band I would have dropped out of school;"), the second ("In some situations schools must take time away from other academic pursuits to allow time for the arts") is objecting this pattern. What do you say?
