  1. Oh I agree, nor am I going to try, I'm just saying...
  2. I think I should get my money back from them. Seriously, if you apply to a doctoral stream, and by April 15th you don't hear a single peep from them (not rejected, not accepted, not waitlisted) and they wont answer your calls, then what was really the point of every applying there? If I paid a guy 80 dollars to deliver say flowers for Mothers day, and he delivers them two weeks after the actual day, wouldn't I want the money back? I mean yea, even if you get the flowers eventually, there's not much point in them. Well in this case, the application was completely and utterly useless, so I would think I'm entitled to my money back.
  3. You're not going to get a Fed job as in international. I would try something like the World Bank or the Poverty Lab which was mentioned. Usually you need to send a resume, a cover letter (both highlighting your research experience and computer skills) plus a transcript and a couple of letters of recommendation. Also, I would think most places hire at the beginning of the year to fill spots over the summer (people leave over the summer to go back to school).
  4. I'm at the St Louis Fed, and one of the really cool things that I see about Wash U is the way that it has become very integrated with the Fed. This wasn't so true when I got here 2 years ago, but the new president (James Bullard) has pushed it. Also the new research director coming in wants to make it similar to the UMN-Minneapolis Fed relationship. There are some good guys here at the Fed, and I think it'll be a big advantage for those who want to do monetary/macro. They bring good people for seminars, and Wash U is only a 15 min train ride away from Wash U. Some economists here I think would even work with grad students, so thats just more people you have to work with. One thing I should add: I hope you dont mind the temperature shifting between 15 and 65 degrees in the span of about 4 hours.
  5. If I didn't think Robert Waldmann is a very busy man, I'd guess he has infiltrated our forum
  6. As far as I know, it ranks well in Trade because it has Markusen who is one of the best, but other than that the school is not comparable any of those 3.
  7. Institution: UT-Austin Program: Economics PhD Funding: TAship Date: Reasons: Going to UC Davis Comments: More International focus at Davis and I preferred the location. Hopefully someone here will get my funding. Institution: U of Virginia Program: Economics PhD Funding: No Date: Reasons: no funding + Davis Comments: I liked the school a lot, but was an easy choice without funding
  8. Nice, Zmoney! They must be working late there. They told you 7:30 eastern time?
  9. Just wondering what the feelings were about these 3 schools. UVA is the only one who hasnt offered funding yet. Interests are in international macro and trade. thanks
  10. haha, I am a Californian and I am morally opposed to umbrellas.
  11. Anyone else still waiting for BU? I emailed them but got ignored.
  12. I declined an offer, but it was a couple weeks ago already.
  13. during a flyout, I had a professor tell me I have no chance being an American citizen. I had never heard that before.
  14. 99% sure I'm going to Davis. Currently also have UVA and UT Austin (unfunded) as options. I've definitely discarded Austin. I want to visit uva, though im kinda cutting it close here. Anyone do a visit to UVA after the flyout? Is the Charlotesville airport the only way to get there?
  15. Yea who knows. By the way, is there anyone here with some info on the quality of USC? They're not really a school you ever hear about, but their placements over the last couple of years seem really impressive.
  16. This is probably not what grad committees have in mind, but I'd say one of the clinchers in me being set on Davis is the fact that I will be able to play soccer outdoors year-round.
  17. and with this email they offered for you to come to the flyout? Like Mankins, I got put on the "weak" waitlist, but they never said anything to me about a flyout.
  18. I actually emailed them yesterday because I had still not heard anything from them and got the following response: "Thank you for your inquiry. We are in the final process of making decisions and hopefully we will have an answer for you soon." So yea, basically no news.
  19. Haha, this is a good observation. In my defense though, the UC Davis flyout was on the same day.
  20. Anybody here actually go to the UVA flyout and can maybe give his/her impression? Thanks
  21. For those into BU, I was just wondering, do they have an Admit Day?
  22. To check your application status on the website, are testudo and APRA two different things? I go to APRA and it says that they're still reviewing my application. With testudo, I just can't get in (probably because I have about 34,450 logins and passwords by now and who knows what i used here). Should I even be trying to get into Testudo or will it be the same as my APRA status?
  23. With me, I got that same email (different date), but the Econ department had already emailed me a couple days beforehand saying I got in. So I think everyone gets that email, but the difference might be that the Econ department only contacts you directly if you were admitted.
  24. Institution: Johns Hopkins University Program: Economics PhD Decision: Rejected Notification date: 03/11 Notified through: email Comments: And I work for a student of Jon Wright...
