I don't think two visas can be valid at the same time (visitors and student). As soon as you get your student visa your visitor visa will be canceled. One can have only one visa status at once.

I don't think the university matters all that much - perhaps the ability to show ties to the home country and the seriousness of the study matters more.

hi kamama, I was just going through this forum and i found your post. I am also applying for a change of status as your brother did. I came here in b2 visa and now want to change my status to f1. I have already received an i-20 from a college. What did you write in your support letter to USCIS for change of status to f1. What documents did you show? and how many months did they take to approve it? Did you send the original I-94 or a copy? I will be filing my i-539 within a week. Any kind of help would be appreciated.
