  1. hello Which school would you guys prefer between Michigan Ann Arbor and Minnesota Twin-Cities?? First, I have no specialy interested part, but plan to find it during my first & second years study. Second, while Michigan will give me 0 dollars in the first year, Minnesota "might" give me funding after all... Third, I see some "rankings" say that Michigan is a bit more higher ranked than Minnesota, but I wonder how much far that gap is... Are there many more "world-renowned" faculty in Michigan than Minnesota?? Or just they're similar? Sorry for bothering you again with this kind of "VS" thread...I just wanted to know general perception...
  2. hm....after painful waiting and rejections of many many top - twenty schools, finally got my First Admission from University of Michigan Ann- Arbor!! Just feel great now. I see many people here recommand Michigan as a great place to study and live. hahaha~ a hahahahah~
  3. I also haven't heard anything from them. I also wonder how many people are like us regarding Wisconsin. Ditto for Havard, and I assume I'm out for Harvard. Moreover, I received an e-mail from UCSD saying that they expect to send all admission mail until mid-day of today, and I haven't heard anything, so I guess UCSD decided not to give admission to me. Maybe they might want to put me on the wait list..that is only hope.
  4. Hi I'm waiting those school's admission results. what are you guys think about those school's chances of more admissions? Some people says in this TM forum that Harvard, Wisconsin and NYU are done, and I see lots of people admitted by UCSD, Michigan and Maryland... I don't feel so good right now. I've known my preparations were not so good, far from perfect, but I thought at least I had some strong points...some things might appeal to some adcom members... And I hate to verify that I was too optimistic.
  5. UCLA gave me 2 rejects, while I applied only one program, economics Phd. 3days ago, Economics department of UCLA gave me reject letter....Then WOW!!! today, the graduate school gave me another rejection!!! How can I repay their kindness? They should have thought that their e-mail could have not reached my mail box or I have some problem at deciphering their kind reject letter... Anyway, if anyone knows someone in UCLA, please bring them my appreciation...
  6. rejected from MIT, Berkeley and NWU... I almost expected rejection from MIT and Berkeley, but Northwestern... they gave me vague hope by sending me there decision lately compared to others. but the game is not finished...Let's be positive and hopeful!! :boxing::boxing:
  7. If I receive MIT admission, then I won't give a damn to any admission stuff, stopp coming to this forum and checking my e-mail inbox. phew...still 15 school's pending....including this Northwestern..
  8. I 'm more than grateful for your kindness...yes, i was ignorant of that curse. But, (a big but), i'm going to give my father a birthday present today...don't you think i'm a good son? so i think god might consider giving me one or two admissions in spite of my misdeed...or at least the Santa Claus will help me. anyway, i guess i feel like posting my profile after getting my first admission...for now, i'm in too much mental agony. my sincere apology..
  9. Now I have NOT been told about a single comment from 16 schools about my admission decision and more than half of them, according to this TM forum, have sent there admissions, rejections, or waitlists, if not exhaustively. Someone in other thread said that "trickle is much more exciting"....HELL YEAH, if that trickle-story turns out to be HAPPY ENDING!!! I admit I'm not a master of perseverance...but i can't help myself since i wholly devoted my past several years, let me say when i'm young, energetic, and relatively smart time, to this preparation of admission to graduate school.. I really want to study with you brilliant guys from all around the world...god help me...(and i'm an atheist...hehehe) so sorry for waisting this thread with my personal feeling
  10. Hello I've applied UCLA, and I see bunch of people who got admission from UCLA. But I haven't got any notice from there, and moreover, the application status web page, as well as decision status web page, says nothing about my application what so ever since November!! One thing to be said : I'm an international student, and I think my TOEFL speaking section score was 1 point below their limit in the graduate school homepage...Could that be possible reason of my not-hearing from them at all? I think, the graduate school of UCLA may have thrown my application into the trash bin as soon as they saw my TOEFL score and not sent it to the Economics department....anyway, it's a possible story.. I wonder how many of you are still in my situation regarding with UCLA... Whether they have sent all of there admissions and rejections, or not... Good luck to everybody~ and I haven't got any message from Northwestern or Wisconsin, too.. I'm sorry, I should have written " Have UCLA given all THEIR admission" ah...spelling error...it looks stupid. hehehe...
  11. I don't know whethere Minnesota has two waitlists or not, but i received an e-mail saying that ------------------------------------------------------------------------- You were among many outstanding applicants to the University of Minnesota’s PhD program in Economics for Fall 2009. Unfortunately we have a limited number of spaces in our entering class as well as a limited amount of financial aid for new students In response to this problem we have created a waiting list for admission and financial aid, in case additional resources become available, and we have placed your application on the waiting list. If we are eventually able to make you an offer of admission, we will let you know as soon as we can. We hope to be able to come to this decision by April 15, but some may be delayed beyond that point. I regret that I cannot give you more definite information at this time. Please do not hesitate to contact my assistant if you have any questions regarding the waiting list or the PhD program. Please contact Ms. Kersteter if you decide to accept an offer from another institution and would like to be removed from the waiting list. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  12. Why are you all guys so pessimistic? Even if I completed my application file by mid-December and the "application complete" e-mail came to me today, I don't think it's a presage of rejection.. Just take it as it says, they're reviewing our files and don't want to be asked over and over again by e-mail until mid-March... Good luck to everybody!!!
  13. Hello I got an email from Minnesota stating that i'm in the wait list for admission. Is there anyone else who got the same notice? anyway, what do you think of my chance of final admission to wait-listed school, especially Minnesota? as some of you might agree, waiting admission is the hardest part among application, i think...
