  1. I would redo it only if you are confident you can get a better verbal score along with a better quant score. Getting a good score in quant doesn't necessarily guarantee a high overall score, whereas, getting a high score in verbal definitely does. In your next attempt, if you score Q49-Q50, but score V35-V40, you'll be in the 680-720 range. So to get to 750+, you'll need V43+. If you have a stellar UG GPA, then scholarship might be a very good possibility with 710 GMAT. I read somewhere that the score tallies are recalibrated each year in July. Every year, it takes more to score higher than it did the previous year, because everyone else is putting in solid preparation just like you are.
  2. You reminded me of a long forgotten rule;). In long division, remainder is always LESS than the divisor. Damn, these rules. Question stem says N>5 With B, since N
  3. If I knew the OA, I wouldn't be posting most likely.
  4. I think it is C also, but I have a slightly different approach. Question stem: M = Nx + 5 --- E1 - M divided by N leaves remainder 5 1. M = 5k + 1 --- E2 - M divided by 5 leaves remainder 1 Equate E1 and E2, 5k + 1 = Nx + 5, rearrange, get, Nx = 5(k-1) + 1 ---E3 From E3, we deduce that N has to be a multiple of 5 and then plus 1. So, 5+1, 10+1, 15+1 etc.... E1 not sufficient 2. N Clearly insufficient From 1&2 combined, The only entry that satisfies both is N = 5+1 So C. Any other takers?
  5. The answer should be E. You've got lower limit values. The higher limit values for both population and income will be higher than for lower limits. However, the ratio higher income / higher population might not necessarily be higher than the ratio for lower limits, because the denominator is higher along with the numerator.
  6. m and n are two factors of p. Is p=mn? 1. p 2. m, n have 1 as the biggest common denominator
  7. M and N are integers. When M is divided by N, remainder is 5. What is N? 1. M divided by 5, remainder 1 2. N
  8. Its a classic trap question. I fell for it in my first attempt as well.
  9. Well, look closely. What about the possibility that both a = b = 1. From 2, we know x = 2, but if a = b = 1, then y could be anything. I think the answer is E.
  10. a, b, x, y are positive integers, and a^x = b^y , what is x^y? 1. a^2=b. 2. x^x = 4
  11. OA is 94%. Your approach looks correct, however, not sure I could do it within the two minute alloted time during the test. Any shorter way?
  12. Good solution. I wasn't quite sure how to mix different series. But as you've shown, you take them in groups of 3. Thanks.
  13. A person has two records, electronic and paper. If the electronic record is not accurate, then there is a 75% chance that the corresponding paper record is inaccurate. If the paper record is not accurate, then there is a 65% chance that the electronic record is not accurate. The probability that both records are inaccurate is 3%. What is the probability that both records are accurate? A. 97% B. 94% C. 68% D. 64% E. 34%
  14. In a series, A1=64, A2=66, A3=67, and An=A(n-3)+8. Which of the following numbers is in the series? A. 723 B. 885 C. 805 D. 796 E. 1025
  15. From 1 x+y=z x=z-y If x is -ve, then |x|=y-z, if x is +ve, then |x|=z-y Since we don't know if x is +ve or -ve, not sufficient From 2 x From 1, 2: x Answer C
  16. The answer is E. The other approach is to turn inequalities into equalities and then draw the lines on a x-y plane. It will become apparent that x can be either smaller than or greater than 70.
  17. Answer for 2 seems to be B. Negating B directly contradicts author's point. Negating B says that there are known cases of humans contracting the disease directly through mice. In such case, the negation weakens author's point. Choice C, when negated, doesn't contradict author's point.
  18. Hey Shake, not too bad of a score on your first attempt. I would advice you to retake within a month or so, while the material is still familiar. I don't think your score is reflective of your lack of understanding the material, it is rather reflective of the attributes you suggested. So, don't wait too long for a retake. I'm sure you'll do well. I myself am considering a retake after a 700 that I posted back in February. Even though 700 is not bad, i still have not been able to digest my q44. I feel that if I can keep my nerves cool, 750-760 is solid a possibility. Maybe I'll be back on this forum to study with you guys. Will decide in a week.
  19. Based on your practice scores, you definitely need to consider a retake. No doubt. You should've scored in the high 600s or low 700s. Looks like you just had a bad day, specially in verbal.
  20. Adcom is Admissions Committee. Schools I am looking at are Wharton, Haas for 07 and ISB, IIM for 08 (if Wharton, Haas do not materialize).
  21. Hey Tweety, congratulations. I also scored a 700 (but with a different quant/verbal breakdown compared to yours). I came out of the exam center with mixed feelings and initially thought about a re-take. But I now realize that 700 is a respectable score even for top b-schools. How do I know? Well, I've had a couple of interviews with b-schools in top 10, and have been told by adcom that GMAT score of 700 is a solid score, and definitely puts you in a competitive category given that other aspects of your application are respectable. Keep in mind that 700 is a 92%ile score, so be proud that you did better than 91% of the GMAT takers world-wide. Be happy.
  22. Hey Natalie, congrats on a good score. Hopefully you get into the school of your choice.
  23. This is precisely what got you. Regardless of how well you know the material, if you cannot correctly respond within 2 minutes/question, you score is going to suffer. A lot of people fall prey to this pitfall. The timing was by far my biggest nemesis, but I conquered it with enough practice. Good news for you is, with enough practice, you too can beat the timing. I have attached an excel macro that helped me tremendously with timing. Read this on how to utilize the grid: http://www.www.urch.com/forums/gmat/1528...highlight=grid
  24. congrats dude..maybe that's how things work in southern hemisphere. Your mind goes blank and you score a 720. Not the way things work here in northern hemisphere bro. You should be thanking the earth's magnetic field among others.
