  1. The natural way to get into a Economics PhD program for anyone in Brazil (and, I believe, in many coutries outside US/Europe) is to go through one of the good Masters program here and then aply. I have a friend who is on the top of his class at one of the best (if not the best) undergraduate school here in Brazil. I was in the same position and went through the Masters here to get to the PhD. Though, I was telling him that maybe he should look for a better Masters program overseas, because that could enhance his chances of getting into a good school. I know there are good Masters programs in NYU, LSE and Toulouse. Does anyone have information on other good programs? Is it a good idea to try this or should he just go through the natural process?
  2. I agree. It was not an easy choice. But I am going to Minnesota after all!
  3. If you it is not a problem for you, could you tell me how many days. I think that if I get an offer it will probably be by the time of the deadline of this second round of offers. I am sorry if this is a tactless request, I'm just very anxious and can't stop checking my email...
  4. I am in a similar position to the one bigleaguechew is in. I have been accepted by TSE and I am also on the waitlist in Minnesota. I'm trying to antecipate what I would do if I got the offer (does the offer come with a reasonable time for you to make the decision??). My interests lie in the theory of mechanism design and its applications mainlly to micro (even doe I am interested in its applications to macro to..). Toulouse is problably one of the strongest places to study mechanism design and is just a great place to live. On the other hand, Minnesota is also strong on this field and seems to have a much better training overall. Does anyone have insights on this? I would really appreciate it.
  5. It wasn't a bad letter but I actually got four rejections notifications from UCLA.. :hmm:, :yuck:,,!! I kind of got the message after the first one..
  6. Institution: LSE Funding: none Reasons: no funding + TSE and Minnesota (waitlist)
  7. Does anyone have any information on how things are going with Minnesota's wait list? I still haven't heard nothing...
  8. I also got the less-enthusiastic waitlist letter. Does anyone have news on any admission to Minnesota off the waitlist yet??
  9. I also email Marjorie about a week ago but still haven't heard back. How long did it take for her to respond to your email??
  10. I am also in Minnesota's waitlist. Does anyone have information on the probability of being accepted?? Thanks for all the info above! __________________________________ In: Toulouse ($?) Waitlist: Minnesota Still waiting: NYU, LSE.

Does anyone have any information on the most likely status of those who haven't heard back from NYU?
  14. Columbia didn`t send me a rejection yet also. I have heard two things about their acceptance decision: (1) everyone accepted or on the wait list have already been notified and (2) they have accepted a very small number of people. Is it possible that we haven`t heard because they are afraid not to get enough students (I`m very optimistic :D). Does anyone have more information on this?
