  1. I'm in a similar position as the OP, and inclined to agree to icebox. For me, it's too late to apply to a top programme 2009/2010, but I could get a master in strategy consulting from a rather unknown university. However, this is most likely a waste of time, given the amount of competition from the top universities. So I guess I'll put my time into a 801/801 GRE and apply for 2010/2011 :P
  2. How the **** did you manage to do that? Did you improve your profile in some way?
  3. Hey there, I'm looking for an university that offers postgraduate education in a subject useful for becoming a management/strategy consultant. However, I don't think I've got much of a chance to be accepted in the top10 or even the top20. Until about half a year ago I studied physics in Germany with very good grades, but without any special honors - I'm just one out of many, and I've got no work experience if you don't want to include internships that belonged to the studies themselves. In about a month, I'm taking a shot at the GRE, with a guess of Q750-800 and V500-600, judging by powerprep practice test results. Does anyone of you know a suitable programme? I appreciate any hints you can give. Thanks
  4. Thanks for the offer buddy, but I already found this ebook yesterday. I think it will do :) I also uncovered a bombastic 5000 shuffled wordlist, including barron's words (which are apparently taken from the BB?) and some additions. However,I feel a bit sick about stuffing 150 words into my head each day for a month. You can download the wordlist here: Word lists for Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Verbal Vocabulary Wish me luck that my head won't explode before I got the words in and the test is taken.
  5. So, as far as I understand it, the quantitative section became much harder in the last decade, rendering the BB quant tests useless, but for verbal, the level stayed about the same? edit: sorry, but where did you find the BB for the price you mentioned? It's far more expensive on .com, .co.uk and .de Thanks
  6. One more thing: you always seemed to be enthusiastic about the "Big Book", but it's extremely expensive and hard to find. Do you think Barron's master wordlist plus verbal exercises in other books can serve as a replacement?
  7. Thanks, Goldust. Up to now, the RCs were my only strength in the verbal sections. I'm used to reading scientific papers in english, but I would consider it next to impossible for a non-native speaker to acquire the exotic vocabulary in the other parts of the section by everyday communication. Following your recommendation, I'll buy Barron's book for the master wordlist and Nova's Prep Course for some quant additions. I don't think that I need any more quant preparation apart from that, and I finally got a plan how to learn the vocabulary. Now all I need are more ways of practising. Can you recommend any more tests apart from Princeton and Powerprep? Thanks again, I really appreciate that you're still hanging around here helping greenhorns.
  8. Hey there, I recently finished my studies in physics and my ultimate goal is to be accepted for a management MSc at a top university. A 800 score in quant is essential, and an at least competitive score in verbal would help as well. My test is scheduled for the end of May, and I got six weeks of full-time preparation (8+ hours a day). If I find this to be insufficient, I could still postpone the GRE. Up to now, I've worked through PowerPrep (but spared one of the tests), Princeton, parts of "GRE for dummies" with a glimpse into GREBible (which sucks). Princeton gave me Q710 while skipping the verbal section, for PowerPrep it was Q780 and V550. Obviously, I've got severe problems with the exotic vocabulary, and find myself guessing most of the time. Regarding the preparation: Quant: I found the preparation of Princeton and Dummies to be extremely trivial, and I don't think they are targeted at aspirants for 800's. The special topics in GREBible were interesting but gratutious, mostly due to the lack of explanations and the numerous errors. What I need is further sources of preparation for Q750+, something that's close in nature to the real L5 GRE questions. I've still got issues with more complex problems in permutations/combinations, so a good explanation on a high level would help there, too. Hints for good practice tests are also always welcome. Verbal: Up to now, I've learned virtually nothing for the verbal section, see me as a blank sheet. There are many tips to be found on the forums, but some of them might be outdated by now. The Princeton priority list will be worked through in no time, but apart from that, I'm a bit lost on how to spend my time most efficiently. Some veterans on the forums recommend the "Big Book" for its major wordlist, but I couldn't find this old version anywhere, apart from the negative comments on amazon. Is there any vocabulary compendium which is up-to-date and as complete as possible? I'm thinking about a major 3k+ word list. Thanks alot for all your help!
