  1. hi guys, just scored 162 in quant. do you think it can be enough for low top20 US and top European Programms (LSE, Oxbridge)...? Cheers,
  2. Hey folks, a lot of (european) Universities offer only a limited amount of specialisation courses in the second year of a PhD-program. Mostly they focus on the standard Micro, Macro, Econometrics theory courses and few applications. I was wondering how important second year specialisation courses are, in particular for writing the PhD thesis? For example, can I write a thesis about let's say Growth in the 19th century without having attended a single economic history class? Or about development politics without having a development econ course? However let's assume that there is a faculty member working in these areas. Cheers, Jobu
  3. Oh sorry, yeah I meant Carlos 3. @ Oleador: Regarding the LOR, it might however be hard to get smth before January, when the US applications close, right? That's what I was trying to say... :)
  4. Hi Juliep, I'd go to CEMFI, it is a twp-year programme, right? Although UPF has a strong recommendaton (which master are you going to do actually?), especially for Macro and Monetary economics. However, if you only stay at UPF for one year it is very hard, if not impossible, to get LOR for your application for the US. Second, I know (currently studying at UAB), that a lot of people leave after the one year, because they are forced to. I think about 40 people do a masters, but only half of it (or less) are accepted for PhD. But still it is a great programme with good teachers. About CEMFI I have heard only good things and considering your funding I'd go for CEMFI. Cheers,
  5. I also got accepted today (M2). At the moment I am doing ETE at Paris 1 (well actually QEM), but I would like to do more development and a bit economic history. So I am thinking about changing. Anyone else thinking about M2?
  6. Yeah, but Organization is not that important for me, I was wondering which program will prepare me best for a Top PhD.
  7. Basically it breaks down to QEM vs. Bocconi/UCL . Can anyone give me further advice please?
  8. Allright, I would rank like this: QEM=Ucl/Bocconi > Essex > Bonn=Zurich But Paris/Barcelona is much nicer than Louvain... :) Is here anyone who studied at UAB?
  9. Hi Palikari,

how are you? I've read that you have done the qem master, right? I am thinking about attending qem ( first semester Paris, next Barcelona). Can you tell me à bit about it? Do you have any experience about getting into a PhD program afterwards? Would you reckommend it?

Thanks a lot and all the Best,

  10. Thanks folks! Well, I don't have to go to US for a PhD. LSE, Oxbridge, UPF will be good enough ( actually I was admitted to the Master at UPF but declined since it costs me too much). So what are your opinioms about Sorbonne/UAB? Any Information about placements or rankings? Cheers
  11. Hi guys, I have to decide between these options and don't know whats best. Qem: First Semester in Paris, the remaining three at UA in Barcelona. UCL/Bocconi: First Year at Bocconi, Second year in Louvain. Essex: 4 Year PhD Programme Zürich/Bonn are two Year Masters. My research interests are Public Economy, Institutional Economics, Macro and Growth. I dfinately want to do a PhD later at the highest possible ranked uni (e.g. LSE) but I am not sure about going into academics (other options are political institutions). So what would you choose? I prefere QEM since I can speak French and Spanish (I am German by the way so Bonn or Zurich is not that attractive for me). Thanks for your advice! Jobu
  12. I am thinking about applying to PSE July session. Does anyone know how many international students are there in the masters programme?
  13. As far as I know, Tolouse M1 is not a research master. However, you don't have to speak french. Other good programs are Louvain, PSE, UABarcelona, Bonn. Most of them have some form of funding.
  14. I think Oxford is the much better choice if you want to go to the US. Most Tolouse students do their PhD at Tolouse. However, I think it's right that Oxford has a great name, but the program in Tolouse might be better. And Oxford is a big name if you don't want to go to academics...
  15. I don't know if I am on the main list. They will announce the lists at the end of May. If you are on the main list than you have the scholarship, right.
  16. The deadline for non EU was end of january as far as I know.
  17. They just send me an email writing that the results for EU students will be announced at the end of May.
