  1. To build on PhDPlease list, I would also say it's beneficial to learn some research methodology. No need to be too specific but at least the broad categories (qual vs quant). I would say it is especially important if you plan to apply for the PhD directly after undergrad and/or your undergrad doesn't require a final thesis. Also one of the things that I wish I studied before my research master is "philosophy of science" and "philosophy of research". I don't know if they should be considered core but it will definitely open your mind to topics like what research is, why we do research, the different approaches, the limits of science etc. so I would say it's more to develop your scholarly acumen than just for admissions.
  2. yeah, that's true! forgot about that part. thanks XanthusARES. I applied mainly to behavioral ethics program in my first round of applications a few years ago. I still have the school/professors list I used which you're welcome to. It's not extensive in any way but it's a good place to start. PM me if you're interested.
  3. If you're interested in the philosophical approach to business ethics, university of Virginia has many researchers in the area. For behavioral ethics, I would add UMich (David Mayer) and University of Georgia (Marie Mitchell) to the Appinfo's list. Ingrid Fulmer at Rutgers University has also published a few articles in ethics. And if you're looking at Europe, Rotterdam School of Management is also big on business ethics and social impact. Check out the Business/Society management department (Rob van Tulder, Gail Whiteman, Muel Kaptein, Ben Wempe). Celia Moore at LBS is also big on ethical Leadership
  4. I wholeheartedly second lya's sentiment. This is my second round of applications and I'm pretty sure the process would have been way more difficult and stressful without the awesome people on this forum. I'm excited about being in the same cohort with one of you guys but would definitely be great to buy you all a round one day! :)
  5. Discipline: Management Admission Year: 2014 Test Used for Admittance: GRE Test Scores: GRE (V:163, Q:160). TOEFL: 119, CPE Undergrad GPA: 2.75 (BS in Pharmaceutical Science form a pubic university) Graduate GPA: 3.45 (MBA in HRM and marketing from an AACSB-accredited business school) Graduate GPA: Still finishing this one (Research Master in business research from a top-5 European university) Industry Experience: 3 years in Human Resources at multinational companies in different industries Research Experience: 1.5 years Teaching Experience: 6 months Letters: 4 LORs, all relatively strong. 2 from big names in the field, one from the dean of my first business school and the last one from the associate dean. Range/Number of Schools Applied: 3 schools, all T-50. Offers Given: 1 offer (my top choice, working with two of my heroes in the field) Final Remarks:This is my second year applying to PhD positions. The first time I applied to 15 schools but didn't work out. I enrolled in a 2-year research master program to improve my profile and gain some research experience. As you can see, I'm not a typical A-student which goes to show that having stellar grades is just one part of the process. I spent two years working hard to remedy what I believed were my real deficiencies as a researcher: statistics, research methodology and research experience. I was lucky enough to have my application screened by insightful academicians who can see beyond the mere numbers on a transcript and glean my potential as a PhD student from the different elements of my application: my commitment, LORs and work experience. If I could offer some advice from my humble and humbling experience, I would say: - Don't just jump into it! Take a long deep look at your profile and identify what your weaknesses are, then do what you can to fix these. It signals to adcoms many things: self-awareness, tenacity, resilience and most of all, commitment. - Know your field, your school and who you want to work with. - It's a stressful and demanding process so develop a support system. The amazing people on this forum should definitely be part of it! - There's always next year so don't doubt yourself if you don't make it the first time. if it's what you really want, then regroup, strategize and take another swing at it. - a research master in Europe is a great way to improve your profile. (contact me if you need more information about that) Good luck everybody!
  6. Hey eventual! congrats on the admits! did they mention how many students they are taking in this year in the Management track?
  7. Congrats, eventual! best of luck. Did they happen to mention how many positions they have, or how many candidates they called? I'm also waiting to hear from them.
  8. Hey guys, congrats to those with offers and keep the faith to the patiently-waiting! Has anybody heard back from University of Oregon or University of Virginia?
  9. Thanks for your response, even though I didn't mention much about my background. And also thanks for googling it! I didn't think of that. that's exactly the kind of tips that I come to the forum for.
  10. Thanks for your help. I appreciate the suggestions. I'm actually familiar with many researchers and schools who have programs in sustainability, environmental science, etc. so I have done my research, and still doing it. I was just thinking that there's maybe stuff I missed. and since I can't list everything I know, in order not to waste everyone's time, I thought to leave it more open to get suggestions from people. I appreciate your help.
  11. Hello everybody, I want to apply to a PhD in corporate sustainability. What schools do you think I should look into? appreciate any suggestions
  12. I have what's a probably a dumb question. Is it appropriate to ask the school for the names of those who are before m on the waiting list. would the school even release such information.
  13. did anyone receive an offer from Carlson PhD in HR/IR program?
  14. To add to the questions above, Does anyone have offers from UFL or Rutgers Management, or UMN PhD HR/IR program?
