  1. you don't need to worry about that..as time ends whatever you have written is saved.
  2. hi Ramp, i have the same score as yours. i don't think score of 3 in AWA will hamper your prospects that much. but berkeley looks a bit out of sight for this score though. i am planning for UCSD, Texas A&M, USC and SUNY Buffalo for MS in civil.
  3. hello NDure, form my experience, for the quantitative section nova's book is great and comprehensive...barron's comes pretty close too. also practice questions posted in the math forum, that helps a lot...it has a lot of good questions from topics such as permutation and combination, probability and logic pronlems from several practice books such as ets and big book. in verbal, there is no such thing as you should study that much words.. the best thing would be to complete barron's list.. then you might feel pretty comfortable with the tests. if you have time work on other word lists too... for the practice tests, powerprep is must... study every questions from the poweprep including the practice questions too. and then there are other tests such as peterson's cat...kaplan is a bit harder but it is a good practice too. however i dont know if you're into old or revised gre.. these are all for the old one... however you can post questions in the forum regarding the new one and ask for help from fellow test takers...all the best.
  4. hi lindsay, thanx for your message...it is indeed surprising to know that you're too worried about your essay ... anyways in my case i had prepared very little for the essay part... i practiced two topics in powerprep and wrote an essay in the morning of the test and that was it. i just felt that i could pull off few words no matter what the topic is and i believe i have done great, will find it couple of weeks later though. in my issue task i chose the topic : "Government should place few, if any, restrictions on scientific research and development" and for the argument it was : "The following appeared in a magazine article about planning for retirement. "Because of its spectacular natural beauty and consistent climate, Clearview should be a top choice for anyone seeking a place to retire. As a bonus, housing costs in Clearview have fallen significantly during the past year, and real estate taxes remain lower than those in neighboring towns. Nevertheless, Clearview's mayor promises many new programs to improve schools, streets, and public services. Retirees in Clearview can also expect excellent health care as they grow older, since the number of physicians in the area is far greater than the national average." i just copied it from the ets site...good luck
  5. Powerprep 1 --3 days before actual test-- V-580 Q-800 Powerprep 2 --1 day before actual test-- V- 690 Q-770 Peterson Thompson CAT --- V-540 Q-740 Kaplan CAT - V-520 Q -720 Real Test - V-610 Q- 760
  6. NOVA'S book might be comprehensive for the real tests and questions are pretty similar to real tests as well.
  7. it all depends on several factors...even though some ppl have good mathematical knowledge they stumble to keep pace with the tests, some lack basic mathematical ideas and some make silly mistakes in calculations ..anybody with right frame of mind and good preparation can ace in the section even from non math background. so considering you are from engg. you should have no trouble in scoring 750+ with little or no preparation. that extra 50 or so marks can be easily achieved with good preparation and practice.
  8. It is a commonly applied theorem in statistics...I got this example to explain it. Marie is getting married tomorrow, at an outdoor ceremony in the desert. In recent years, it has rained only 5 days each year. Unfortunately, the weatherman has predicted rain for tomorrow. When it actually rains, the weatherman correctly forecasts rain 90% of the time. When it doesn't rain, he incorrectly forecasts rain 10% of the time. What is the probability that it will rain on the day of Marie's wedding? Solution: The sample space is defined by two mutually-exclusive events - it rains or it does not rain. Additionally, a third event occurs when the weatherman predicts rain. Notation for these events appears below. Event A1. It rains on Marie's wedding. Event A2. It does not rain on Marie's wedding Event B. The weatherman predicts rain. In terms of probabilities, we know the following: P( A1 ) = 5/365 =0.0136985 [it rains 5 days out of the year.] P( A2 ) = 360/365 = 0.9863014 [it does not rain 360 days out of the year.] P( B | A1 ) = 0.9 [When it rains, the weatherman predicts rain 90% of the time.] P( B | A2 ) = 0.1 [When it does not rain, the weatherman predicts rain 10% of the time.] We want to know P( A1 | B ), the probability it will rain on the day of Marie's wedding, given a forecast for rain by the weatherman. The answer can be determined from Bayes' theorem, as shown below. P( A1 | B ) = P( A1 ) P( B | A1 ) P( A1 ) P( B | A1 ) + P( A2 ) P( B | A2 ) P( A1 | B ) = (0.014)(0.9) / [ (0.014)(0.9) + (0.986)(0.1) ] P( A1 | B ) = 0.111 Note the somewhat unintuitive result. Even when the weatherman predicts rain, it only rains only about 11% of the time. Despite the weatherman's gloomy prediction, there is a good chance that Marie will not get rained on at her wedding.
  9. hello peeps... i just gave my test yesterday and got V-610 and Q-760.... it was bit low for quant though but i shouldn't worry.. especially, in Quant my 3rd question was DI question and included a graph that i took about twice the time interpreting it...also i got a Baye's theorem question in probability and that was weird.. the key in Quant is practicing more DI questions and than those on test books. also u may face quite different probability and permutation problems. practice lots of questions from math forum..it helps to unlock keys to several hundred other problems. IN verbal though, i was pretty confident in score above 580, the week before the tests i scored 690 and 620 in powerprep verbal...i had finished barrons word list, big book and other additional words i could find in this forum. also search for Brainscape in google, it is a good software for memorizing through flash cards. i was lucky that all three RC passages were really easy for me except one had 80 lines and i just managed to do it in time. all the best for future test takers.

    Ratio

i think it will be same i.e. k:3

    Object

    1oo ft/2 sec = 180000ft/hr so 180000/5280 = 34 miles approx. so the approx speed is 34 miles/hr

    Coins

and yeah u got it correct while i was typing

    Coins

Let the no, of 5 cents coin be x and 10 cents be y. Then initially 5x+10y=1.75*100 cents and after the replacement the eqn becomes 10x+5y=2.15*100.... Solve the eqn and you get x=17 and y=9..i.e. x+y = 26 coins in total.

    3 problems

    I think for no.1 it is 4*3^14,,,since 3^ 16 - 3^15 - 3^15 + 3^14 = 3^14(3^2-3^1-3^1+1) = 3^14(9-3-3+1) = 4*3^14
  15. if we've followed those books then you must have gained good knowledge...now just take more practice tests and avoid your mistakes second time.
