  1. If I am mainly interested in doing research in Law and Economics (presumably at a law school), does it make sense to get a JD instead of a PhD? It seems like if I go the PhD route, it is much more difficult to get hired at a law school. If I don't get into a JD/PhD program though, I might miss out on a lot of important analytical tools. What do you think?
  2. If you plan on taking a gap year (or two) after undergrad but plan on applying to PhD programs afterward, does it make sense to try to get letters of recommendation before you graduate to use later?
  3. Is there any kind of ranking of policy schools with an Econ track or programs I should look at?
  4. What are the top policy schools that have a heavy econ bent? HKS, WWS, what else?
  5. What are the strongest quant marketing firms, especially those focusing more on empirical work?
  6. I'm guessing that Marketing Science is difficult to publish in? :o
  7. Thanks for the advice guys. Just one more question -- what articles/books would you recommend I read to get a sense of quant marketing research, and what are some of the top academicians in the field ? :)
  8. Follow-up question -- Is there any class that isn't traditionally taken as a prerequisite to an Economics PhD that would look good for a Marketing PhD? I'm not interested in psych/CB so that rules stuff like social psychology out, but would any business classes/applied stats classes look particularly good?
  9. I have the GRE and all the other prep but I'm not applying this cycle. I have an offer at a marketing firm's business analytics dept and considering that or doing RA work for a year...what do you think is better?
  10. So I've only recently become aware that quant marketing exists -- from what I can tell, it's essentially applied microeconomics, very cool. I'm an economics major who's always been interested in the micro/consumer behavior side so this seems like a good fit. What's the application process like for marketing PhDs? I have a stats minor and tons of math classes (real analysis, etc.) but no marketing, how can I become competitive for a PhD program/what are the prereqs? What do the rankings for schools look like? Thanks in advance!
  11. I recently found out that one of the professors I was going to ask for a letter has decided to take a leave of absence to stay a year at a different university. What's the protocol for asking for LOR now -- he had told me that I was one of his best students and I was certain that he would write an excellent LOR, but now I am not sure if it's possible.
  12. I'm pretty sure I can get it up to a 167 Q at least, but I'm not sure that a few points is worth the pain/effort/money. I do understand that I'm on the low end of the cutoff for top programs, though
  13. Took the GRE last week and I'm pretty disappointed. It's the usual spiel; got an experimental quant section (which was easy) and didn't take my second quant as seriously (which was harder), leading to unnecessary mistakes. Got a 169 V, if it's worth anything (didn't study for it besides powerprepp, go figure). I'm only targeting the top 15 (top 10 undergrad with high gpa, recs from good professors, etc.), should I retake the exam?
  14. So I did the right thing and talked about my interest in grad school with 3 professors (in depth with 2 of them) and then went on to ace their classes all the while discussing their research with them (became an RA for one of them). When should I be asking them to write my LOR?
