  1. I'm glad there's still the time clock and problem numbering feature. I was afraid that perhaps ETS was getting really tough, and taking the clock away. Sometimes the testing services contemplate measures like this to make the test more difficult, and to more effectively separate the great from the not-so-great test performers. In the very early 1990s, for example, the LSAT people were seriously considering putting their reading comp narratives on a single, isolated page, so the narrative was separated from the questions. When the testee finished the reading passage, he or she would turn the page and address the questions, and they would not be permitted to review the narrative while answering the questions. The testee would dependent entirely on the quality of their short term memory in order to get the questions right.
  2. I already checked, and the "Big Book" tests don't include test ID's.
  3. I have two old GRE paper-and-pencil test books to work with. One is the "Practicing to Take the General Test 10th edition" and the other is the old "GRE Big Book," which contains 27 tests. Can anyone tell me if the questions and tests in one book are duplicated in the other? It would be nice to know that they each contain separate tests. Thanks.
  4. I doubt that his 770 quant score was "low" by these programs' standards. Many of their admitted students probably have quant scores of 770. Getting an 800 instead of a 770 is not much of a difference. Remember, the GRE is just a screening tool used by programs in order to categorize applicants (by putting them into pools based on their scoring range) for different degrees of positive or negative scrutiny by admissions committees. A 770 is good enough to have put him in the most desirable category. The biggest emphasis, I'm guessing, would have been on the non-GRE aspects of his candidacy, once he cleared the initial test score screening. I don't know what the admissions people thought about the AWA score of 4.
  5. You should probably obtain a copy of an earlier Barron's practice book, and study the old word list. If English is your second language, the Barron's word list (and it's the same list they've been using for decades) is essential.
  6. Thanks. It could be that my browser is missing a plug-in, or something like that. I had a similar problem when taking the Kaplan practice CAT test: I couldn't scroll up or down on the reading comp passages.
  7. Excellent. And, of course, there's a timer or digital time clock on the computer screen, so we know how much time is left at all times?
  8. I am surprised to see that the questions on the current GRE CAT (used until 7/31) are not numbered. Has anyone found this to pose a problem for pacing? Pacing and timing have everything to do with success on the GRE CAT; if the questions aren't numbered, that could pose serious problems for the testee. I'm taking my GRE CAT in late July.
  9. I just checked again. There's a clock icon at the bottom of the Powerprep CAT practice tests, but clicking it doesn't activate a clock. Are you sure you're talking about the Powerprep CAT practice tests (current, until 7/31) and the not the Powerprep II (revised, after 7/31) tests?
  10. I find this hard to believe; are you sure you are right? If it's true, then we're talking about a scandal of huge proportions. Check your facts, and if you're certain this stuff is indeed happening, start a thread on www.autoadmit.com. Lots of regulars there are top ten law school students, and they're big on responding to stuff like this.
  11. Your AWA score is clearly a fluke, and not representative of your true ability level. Maybe you should take the GRE again, just to prove your AWA ability? Just my guess...I'm not an expert, so don't take my suggestion too seriously.
  12. I'm certain that on the new, revised, test, we will all score at approximately the same percentile range as on the current CAT test, and on the old paper tests. I took the GRE CAT in 2002, and as practice for my upcoming GRE test, I'm taking the Powerprep CAT and old paper tests. My score on Powerprep II revised was in the same range as my scores on the current and older tests. Hence, it's accurate. I don't think we'll be in for any surprises.
  13. I just downloaded the GRE CAT Powerprep practice tests from ETS's website. I'm talking about the current CAT test, which will not be offered anymore after July. When taking the tests, I was amazed to see that the screen did not show a timeclock. Also amazing is that none of the test questions were numbered, which the exception of a couple of graphs on quant (questions 14 & 15, and questions 20 & 21). Does this mean that that the real GRE CAT (currently used) will not have a time clock viewable by the test-taker? And does the current test also not number the questions? I'm taking the test on July 22nd. I did take the GRE CAT in 2002, but I remember the questions being numbered, and a clock was viewable on the screen. What gives now? Thanks.
