  1. i think so. not just finance, every discipline. i think so far i've been rejected by 12 of the 14 i applied to (8 official). it's really a game of luck, and mine hasn't turned around since the heartless woman rejected me at the beginning of Feb
  2. maybe you'll find a warm good morning from Kim as soon as you check your inbox :)
  3. I said, Wharton is classy. email directed to website
  4. not so bad; keeps the hope going. every time I open outlook, I still get the chance to wish for a wharton offer. it's like singing to a song of the good old days. today i went to four churches to pray. see if God decides I have a good fit with wharton or maybe elsewhere there's a beautiful 18-year-old heiress/zillionaire waiting for me :) worse schools: UIUC, never replied whomever I contacted; rejected yesterday Northwestern, rejected without email notification at least the people at Wharton are friendly. my guess is that they don't have a person checking that email account / answering at this number. i promised that if i receive an offer from wharton, i will 1) donate 250 ml of my precious blood 2) hold a free party (at least donate six bottles of finlandia) 3) party at least seven days in a roll 4) light a candle in at least a dozen churches
  5. has Wharton not answered? I emailed them three times before I submitted my application (July, September, and October). never replied. there's however a workaround. I emailed one of the professors, and he immediately replied, basically saying that I have a strong profile and should apply there. I think if anyone dares contacting a professor at the department will immediately give you the response. I personally still want to hang on to my dream at the moment.
  6. I think CS5 has got into Wharton (another discipline). Wharton marketing is perhaps just slow this year. Maybe they accepted way back in Feb and are slow in rejecting. Maybe the adcom somehow hasn't met yet. Perhaps they have some internal shakeup, or perhaps they simply haven't found the time to get everyone together in a room yet. From my experience with this forum and GC, it'd be unusual, albeit still possible, if they've interviewed 15+ and accepted 6+ and only one post is on GC. At least a couple would register on this forum and "chime in". On the other thread, someone just posted that he (supposedly he) is depressed because only one top 10 program accepted him. I'm not too envious, but having one and being depressed of not having a second is a rare scenario save in porn.
  7. I tried to find it for some time but couldn't. only found one post that says material complete (i received the same email on jan 25). seems silly, but after so many rounds of rejections, a school i've heard nothing from (wharton) remains one of my best shots. the past three weeks i've thought a lot about my profile, and i can now see 6 major weaknesses in my profile. even with high scores, high gpas, great recommendation, great writing sample, and great sop, it only takes one of these weaknesses to be noticed to ruin my chance at a school.
  8. personally, i would take insead and start binging for half a year (which school are you waiting for? i think very few can beat insead, and they mostly have already made their offers). congrats on insead, btw!
  9. I must say that family ALWAYS comes first. Other issues are all side issues.
  10. Hello and congratulations to everyone who has already found his/her dream place to be for the next few years. My guess is that many less fortunate fellow PhD-aspirants have been thinking the same thought recently: if some of you successful ones could withdraw your applications at schools below the ones you are already in on your priority list, we may get a place. It is not about money, prestige, or career; it is about knowledge, about pursuing one's dream. I believe I need say no more.
  11. i just studied the history data of stanford, wharton, and kellogg. seems like it's going to be rejection week for stanford lining up. if you haven't had an interview with wharton, chances are slim. kellogg won't reject until the week after, but if you haven't had an interview your chance is zero. i should've applied to lousane, bergen, helsinki, leuven... doesn't seem like americans recognize my education anyway (despite top 1% GPA and 99% GMAT and lots of research and splendid rec and flawless sop)
  12. sorry to hear that. my situation is not much better. two interviews and two rejections. after going through this forum and the GC listings, i think my expectations should be kept low at this point. don't be worried, though. i've been worried this whole week, and it's eating me. worrying won't help anyone. i won't worry next week. just let it come. what could they do after all? reject? yeah. but how about the hundreds of your friends/colleagues/classmates who've never applied? at least we've tried.
  13. congrats on the interview. can't say it bids so well for the rest of us who haven't had an interview, though. "very short" doesn't help, either. seems like every school admits the same set of candidates. i hope as their top picks turn down the offer i can have a place to go. out of the 14 i've applied to, besides several stretches i think i have a good fit with every school. (not to say the researches at the stretches are bad; just that my profile may not fit their requirements). if i knew the competition is this fierce, i should've applied to more lower ranked schools and to no T20 at all. after all, i want an academic career, not a school ranking competition.
