  1. Unfortunately, the scholarship is limited to either US or UK. However, I still prefer to go to the US.
  2. Thx for the response! Are there any applied economics phd program or public policy available? Because I have been informed that the major reason I was rejected is because of an insufficient number of math courses in the transcripts.
  3. Dear all, The resulst of my application is worse than I expected. I therefore may have to apply for some more safe schools. However, to the best of my knowledge, there is only Georgetown university that the deadline is still not met. Could you please suggest any good-to-ok schools that I still could apply? Note that my fields of interests are IO, law and economics and development economics. Note that I have received a scholarship so I have to apply within this fall only. I thank you very much, Best
  4. Thx for the replies. Do u think my TOEFL score will help or even substitute verbal and awa parts? I have got 111 in toefl IBT which is quite ok. Anw, I think I will resend the new score to all. Thx mates.
  5. Thank you indeed for your reply :-) Well...the fact is that I tend to apply to considerably good to top schools. So, I should avoid submitting it to top-ranked schools, right? I just think that if the quant score is not improved, the old one should be sufficient for the cut-off criteria and AdComs will just go on to consider other things in my application package. Please kindly correct me if I am wrong.
  6. My previous one (old GRE) which I submitted to almost all places is: v330 (19%) Q780 (88%) AWA3.5 (26%). My newest (just announced yesterday) is: v151 (51%) Q163 (88%) AWA4 (48%). My concern is that the quantitative does not improve and it looks even a bit worse in the new GRE scale, even though other parts are improved. Note that, I know that all deadlines are passed and this submission might be useless. But assuming that it might be considered. Thx indeed.
  7. Only one place is available. 1. My thesis advisor from business administration program who writes me a good letter 2. Well known economist of my country who writes me a great letter thx a lot! :)
  8. I am applying to one top school. There are two choices of recommender. 1.First choice Pros: World renowned economist (not at the level of Professor Mankiw or Stiglitz but quite well known in his field) from Australia. He was my visiting professor when I was in an Econ school at master degree and I got A in his class. Cons: even though he promptly accepted to write me a letter, I am not sure he writes me a great one or not. I am pretty sure it will be just a moderate one. 2. Second choice Pros: he knows me well and will write me a superb letter because he is my dissertation committee and quite close to me. Cons: he is not an economist but business school associate professor and the academic vice president of the well known university in Thailand. Thanks for your response in advance
  9. I have to decide to take a GRE test again in January (I know it is much late in relative to the deadlines of almost all top schools but I just wanna make a try). My previous score is Q780, V330, AW3.5. However, my toefl score is 111: R30, L28, S24, W29. Do you think I could just ignore my bad Verbal and AW parts of GRE? (because I misunderstood that GRE for economics school required only a Quantitative part and did not prepare for the other parts at all). Note that, I am not sure whether taking a GRE this late will be of any help... I thank you very much, Best regards,
  10. Thx to both of you! I think I will try another shot. May be I will take it on either January 3 or 10. Just afraid that I wont be ready on 3 because it is just after the new year holiday -_-''
  11. yeps! It's a bit flexible condition as you may feel. The purpose of the scholarship is simply that the university that I have to pursue should be well-qualified enough unless there is a sound reason. For example, supposed my sub-field is very bizarre and there are just some schools those weren't ranked amongst that top 20 offered such a field. It is a government scholarship and, sometimes, they just want the student to acquire the best ones and there is no criteria besides the not-so-accurate-as-one-may-claim ranking. Anyway, my point of question is about GRE which I would love to hear your take on that issue as well. Thx :-)
  12. I am applying for the top 20 because that Is a condition of my scholarship. However, I took a GRE in July without much preparation and hitherto have had no time to retake it. The score was Q780 V330 AW3.5. I have submitted the score to the universities within the deadline already. My questions are as follows. 1. If I will retake it again after the deadline of application, would it help? This is because the soonest test date from now is in the early of January. 2. Would my TOEFL score be of any help if it is considerably good? I got 105 last time but the one that was just taken should be improved. Also, I could ask my recommender to specifically evaluate my English proficiency in the LOR. Thanks very much in advance. Best,
  13. Thanks for your reply and idea! I will try to do so. By the way, do you think I should apply for the top 5 or I should just hope for the lower ranked ones instead.
  14. Therefore, What do you think I need to put an emphasis on in my SOP? Moreover, what was an outcome of the case you mentioned?
