  1. IMO your GRE is really good enough, just focus on cultivating relationships with potential letter writers...
  2. not yet but most likely will accept it pretty soon. Just need to talk to a few more people before doing so.
  3. I have a feeling that a lot of people are planning to accept yale's offer, which may or may not be a good thing...
  4. Anyone have any idea when it usually comes out? I did a quick search and only found little information. I did see someone posting to have been awarded the NSF fellowship on 3/30 for one year, but not sure whether that is the usual case. Thanks!
  5. PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: Top 2 in China, then transferred to top 30 US Undergrad GPA: 3.99/4 in US Type of Grad: N/A Grad GPA: N/A GRE: 165V/169Q/6.0AW Math Courses: Calculus I and II (95+), Linear Algebra 1 and 2 (95 , 85), Probability, Real Analysis 1,2, Complex Variables, ODE, Algebra 1 , all A's Econ Courses: Principles of Economics 1,2 (75, 90); Intermediate Microeconomics; Intermediate Macroeconomics ; Economic Development ; International Economics ; Econometrics ; Math for Economists (Phd) ; Statistics, all A's; Microeconomics 1 (Phd) (B+) Letters of Recommendation: Phd Math for Econ Professor, Complex Variable Professor, and two professors I've RA ed for; I'm sure the last two played a major role here. Research Experience: Undergrad RA Teaching Experience: grader for years Research Interests: Development SOP: nothing special RESULTS: Acceptances: Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Brown, UCSD, BU, Upenn, Northwestern, Columbia Waitlists: Duke, Cornell (for first year fund), have withdrawn from both Rejections: Harvard, MIT, Berkeley, Attending: most likely Yale, will decide after visit day Comments: A little bit disappointed by the MIT rejection, but how can one not be happy with these results? I am still struggling a bit among stanford/princeton and yale, but I guess given my interest Yale would be a nice place. What would you have done differently? Really not much. I have been concerned about getting recommendation letters back when I was a sophomore, but everything worked out alright; you just need one professor who really appreciates your talent and willing to help you, then doors just open up one after another.. Bottom line is that hard work pays off, but you also need a bit of luck to meet the right person to give you a push.
  6. 7. haven't got my results from Berkeley yet, but I asked them about visit day and they told me it is scheduled on April 4th.

    Flyouts

is there any convention about what "travel reimbursement" includes? In particular, does that usually include hotel/lodging fees? if it depends on the particular school then I'll go ask them, but just wanted to make sure it wouldn't be deemed a stupid question...("Of course it does/doesn't!!")
  9. got an email from Cornell offering a "conditional admission", condition on availability for first-year funding. .. seems like I've been having best results with my "primary targets", while safeties probably know they are my safeties and put me on these waitlists..:2cents: Now just waiting for Berkeley so I can finalize my visit day arrangements P.S. want some advice, shall I withdraw my applications from a few other schools that I probably won't attend anyway? Has anyone done so already?
  10. with acceptances and waitlists out, most liekly a rejection from NYU if no news heard yet?

  16. IMO the two letters, if they would indeed be that strong, can give you a decent chance at top 10s.

  23. last name initial 'x' waiting for NW as well
  24. I woke up 6am in the morning, grabbed my phone and refreshed grad cafe, saw a long list of NW rejections - "hahaa, f**king trolls, rejections this early in the morning?" - Then I came here (all neatly and conveniently saved as bookmarks), saw the comments regarding NW results, then started struggling: "hmmm, should I get up, turn on the laptop and check the result? No I should probably sleep a bit more; whole day of classes ahead of you!". But of course it inevitably came down to I somehow getting up and adroitly logging into the system: "An admissions decision has not yet been rendered." no news is good news?
  25. so sad, though I didn't have much hope for it anyway
