Hi! I am an international student (US undergrad) and I have been admitted with full funding by a US program. Since the offer includes health insurance, and I have problems with 2 teeth, I am deciding between getting treatment in my home country this summer or later in the US (during semester I guess).
Right now one tooth is really bothering me, and my dentist suggested Root-Canal treatment (a surgery removing 2 teeth and replace with filling materials) for both of them. But I have to pay >$700 for a tooth in my current undergrad school (even under insurance..), so I don't wanna do that. So I wanted to know from current graduate students (especially for those who had such tooth treatments) if getting treatment later this year will be a better option.
If I get treatments in my home country this summer, I will pay ~$700 for each of them, and it will take less than a month for each tooth to be treated. And I will feel better sooner. But there is no insurance benefit or anything like that.
If I get treatments in the US this fall. I am not sure how much I will have to pay under graduate insurance. And I don't know how long the whole process will take for each tooth. Also, I don't know if I'll have time for it in the busy first year. Thus I have these questions for treatment in the US:
1. How much do I have to pay for a root-canal treatment under graduate insurance, for both of the teeth? ( the original price at my undergrad is ~$1100)
2. How long will it usually take since I first go to the dentist, until the surgery is completed?
I know this is kinda off the main topic here, but I really need some more info. on this issue, as money is a big factor of consideration for me. Thanks in advance!
