  1. P to be drunk and run in that highway --> 0,12 P to have an accident in that highway --> 0.01 P to have an accident and be drunk 0,084 0,084*0,01/0,12 = 0,7% OA cheers Brasi
  2. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gathers data concerning the causes of highway crashes where at least one fatality has occurred. The following probabilities were determined (BAC School is blood- alcohol content). From the 1998 annual study. P(BAC = 0 / Crash with fatality) = 0,616 P(BAC = is between 0.01 and 0.09 / Crash with fatality) = 0,300 P (BAC is greater than 0.9/ Crash with fatality) = 0,084 Suppose that over a certain stretch of highway during a 1 Year period the probability of being involved in a crash that results in at least one fatality is 0.01. It has been estimated that 12% of the drivers on this highway drive while their BAC is greater than 0.09. What is the probability of a crash with at least one fatality if a driver drives while legally intoxicated (BAC greater than 0.09).?
  3. ok but the question asks the ratio of m/n^2. not the ratio of m^2/n^2 Do I miss something?
  4. I think the answer is E. from statement 1 you can have the value of M as - or +sqrt of 7/5 from statement 2 you know that n is posiitive but still you do not know if M is positive or negative. Combining statement you don't get more information. So, as you cannot answer whether the ratio is positive or negative answer should be E.
  5. Ok this is easy, it is a pondered average. Once you have the proportion between number of employees in the consulting division and number of employees on finance division you can find easily the solution in this case you have twice as many employees in the consulting division as there are in the finance division so just to give you an example...how the average does not change when you plug different numbers that respesct the ratio.... if we have 4 employees in the Consulting division 2 employees in the Finance division 4(73,000.) + 2(102,000) = 496,000 / 6 = 82,667 or 28 employees in the Consulting division 14 employees in the Finance division 28(73,000.) + 14(102,000) = 3,472,000 / 42 = 82,667 cheers :) Brasi
  6. Answer is C? thiis is my approach. from Stat 1 we know that 80 men live off campus, 120 women live off campus, 280 women live at Colllege x. Statement 2 says that "There are half as many men at College X as there are students who live on-campus" so 280 men is the only possible value.
  7. definetely backsolving in this case is THE approach, as the only answer is B (4,6,6),
  8. well, it is not a "real" tip... but if you had 5 answers and just one had the last digit with 9, and the others had, 3, 4, 6, and 7 (for example) you should easily elimante the other ones. Of course if you had a number terminating with 1 you would have to choose...between the two answers.... bye :)
  9. it is a kind of "picking number approach". the starting point is that we have to understand how much A and B produce NOT for three days but for 1 day ONLY. so (5/4)* 3 = 15/12. in this way you can get the daily amount of W. In fact, if you divide by 3 (15/12) you obtain the quantity of W produced by A and B together in 1 day. 5/12. Now you know that A takes 2 days longer to produce W weights than machine B to produce 5/12 in one day working together, the only possibile combination that satisfies this condition is that 1) A produces 2/12 of W each day and therefore takes 6 days to produce 1W (12/12) 2) B produces 3/12 of W and therefore takes 4 days to produce 1W (12/12) 6 - 4 = 2 days of difference this satisfies the statement of the problem, without doing any equation. so you know that A will take 12 days to produce W. hope now it is more clear. Brasi :)
  10. this is my approach. 5/4 W = 15/12 of W in 3 days. (15/12) / 3 = 5/12 of W each day. you know that A takes 2 days more than B to complete the W so A takes 2/12 *6 days and B takes 3 /12 * 4 days. The sum (2/12 + 3/12= 5/12) fits. :) Hence A takes 6 days to produce W, and 12 days to produce 2 W Answer is 12 :) cheers Brasi
  11. I picked D for sentence 1, A for 2, and B for three :( my mistake on sentence 1 has to do with the difference between "may" and "might"? and in sentence 3 B changes the meaning ? can someone confirm? thanks
  12. My pick is C, the other are ambiguous or wrong
  13. Bob, I was wrong on the number 1 :) number 2, 3, 4 were ok. could you please explain ? thanks a lot :)
  14. one more vote for B, what is the OA?
