  1. Hi I'm also stuck at 159. do you think UK programs such as LSE/UCL also have similar cut-off? I'm considering taking the GRE for 4th time. yet, I'm wondering whether it's worth it or not….
  2. I think it's better if you stick to the document deadline. Better not taking risk.
  3. Zotero and Papers2 are the most comfortable. Although I recently dropped papers2 because the pdf file naming can be disaster if you're not careful. I love that Zotero has this sensing thing on the url bar that captures all the file data very neatly. though I like Papers interface better :P I wish I can merge them!
  4. I agree with Walras. What I did was making a list with detail of programme, school, the admission deadline, address, links & so on. Make sure everything is comfortable for them to write it for you.
  5. Nothing in mind? so I guess an MA in stat doesn't really helping even from LSE..? cmiiw, but I saw someone with MA stat in MIT. any thoughts?
  6. @econdevelopment: Thank you econdevelopment! Here's my story, I don't take grad micro/macro because I couldnt' risk my transcript further. Actually economics are different department than mine and also conducted not in English (I'm also not the native here). So when I got B for Econometrics II, I was quite shock and it reduces my confidence to take more classes in Economics department. Same thing happened with Math department. I even tried to sit in Differential Equations class and it drived me crazy not to understand anything! :cower: lol My departement has placed one in Chicago few years ago, but he dropped out. ruined my chance doesn't it? Do you have anything in mind about Top 25-50? Where do you think a master in intl development will get me?
  7. Thanks a lot jrdonsimoni! I thought I have a good chance in Toronto doctoral stream MA, but considering I'm non-US/canadian, I might not stand a good chance for the funding. But I won't give up applying this year :triumphant: Yes I actually do want to go to US! with my background, do you have any suggestion of Master degree in Europe? (actually 3 years ago I got acceptance from TSE, Manchester and Birmingham, but I have to turn it down because of funding :( )

  9. Hi Guys, I would like to kindly ask for your constructive feedback and suggestion on my profile. I'm aiming top 20 PhD in 2014. Here's my profile below PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: unknown in Asia, Econ major Undergrad GPA: 3.7/4.0 Type of Grad: development economics in asia, another unknown but better univ. Grad GPA: only few Bs, so I guess at least 3.5 GRE: will be taking this next month, maybe I can get at least 95 percentile. Math Courses: Mathematics for Economics (A), Advanced Mathematics for Economics (A), both in undergraduate. my graduate school doesn't allow me to take mix department courses. Econ Courses (grad-level): Game theory (B), Econometrics II (B), Adv Econometrics I (A), some development economics & quantitative courses (all As + one B). Econ Courses (undergrad-level): Intro Macro/Micro (A,A), Intermediate Macro/Micro I (A-,A) Intermediate (Advance?) Macro/Micro II (A-,A), Econometrics I/II (A,A-), Statistics I/II (A,A), Econ Math & Adv Econ Math (A,A) mentioned above, Labor & HR Econ (A), Int.Trade/Finance (A,B), Thesis (A), Fieldwork (A), Public Econ I/II (A,A), Quantitative Methods (A), Environmental Economics (B), Development (B+), Finance (A-), Monetary I/II (B+, A-), History of Economics (A), Economic Systems (A), Industrial Econ (B), Project Evaluation (A), other economics courses mostly As and several Bs. Other Courses: some informal workshops in R, GTAP, CGE Letters of Recommendation: could be from getting from PhD OSU, PhD Stanford, a PhD student in Tilburg (Colorado MA), Northwestern (famous but he doesn't know me well), 3 out of 4 are locally famous but not in US. Research Experience: only bachelor & master thesis, both in trade. Software experiences: EViews, STATA, GTAP, SPSS, LaTex, GTAP, R, Matlab (in ability rank). Won 4th place in a national research undergraduate competition. 3 week internship at thinktank. Teaching Experience: TA for Intro & Intermediate for both Macro & Micro, Advance Econometrics, in total 6 terms. Research Interests: Labor, Behavioral/Game Theory, Trade, Development SOP: working on it. I will try to explain why I cant take math courses in graduate school. Concerns: Math grades (and understanding, I'm trying to study real analysis, calculus & linear algebra by myself. So far not bad, not good either :P), No good connection for letter of recommendation. No research opportunities (only PhD student gets it). Applying to: LSE EME, LSE Econ, LSE MSc Stat, CEMFI, GSE Barcelona, ANU, Melbourne, UoT, Paris School of Econ => (All Master), after this I'm aiming high for top 10 PhD in 2014/2015. I'm seriously considering to take Master in Statistics since I'm getting master in development. I don't want to lose interest in econ by taking another master in Economics thinking that i will study the same thing again in PhD, yet I realize there's not much option for a good springboard to Top 20 PhD. I hope I'm not aiming too high. Would love to hear what you think to improve my chance. Thank you for reading my profile! feedback is very much appreciated
  10. Hey guys, I'm planning to apply to MSc Stat, and EME and/or Econ this cycle. I would like to ask for your insight and experiences on these three especially Stat vs EME. How rigorous is LSE Stat and its failure rate? How significant is it to get a Master in Stat from LSE compared to the others for PhD admission? Considering I'm soon getting master degree in econ development, I'd like to save my interest in economics for Phd :D I read both scary and encouraging posts about EME (which shares some courses with Statistics), so I'm a bit torn on which of the three will be the best springboard for me, please let me know what you think :encouragement:.

  12. Hi, I'm also new here but I've been following for a while. I guess without this forum, I wouldn't have the confidence to set top US phd as my ultimate goal!! :) Apparently we have similar background, except I will try for LSE next year :D I'm actually wondering is it possible to take real analysis and other undergraduate math courses when you're registered as Master students? (Not just in LSE but also in other top master program like UCL, Tilburg, PSE, ANU, etc) thanks!
