  1. Any one knows whats the status at U Minn Carlson for Macro OB??
  2. Just an update from my end - Had Interviews at two universities so far, both in Management area: 1. UW Madison - two rounds of interviews - they said that results can be expected by second or third week of Feb 2. Erasmus (ERIM) - One interview - they said they would get back with updates soon Fingers crossed. All the best to everybody!!
  3. Saw on gradcafe the Erasmus has sent out an interview invite. Can anyone confirm which area this is?
  4. I read on Gradcafe that UWash Foster has sent out interview invites for the strategic management track. I have applied there but for the OB track and havent heard anything from them yet (their deadline was 15th jan). Both are within the Management area - so are there separate committees which look at two different tracks within the same area or just one committee which looks at both. Basically, do I still have a chance?
  5. Wow!! this was super good!! thanks @brazilianphd for sharing this and @xanthusares for writing it!!! :)
  6. Any inputs from the more experienced folks around what is a typical discussion like? Should I be reading papers on my field of interest or focus on the work I have done so far and my expectations from the program??
  7. Hello All, I got an email from U Wisconsin Madison for a skype interview. It is yet to be scheduled, they said someone will get in touch with me! :) Hope everyone hears from the schools soon! All the Best!
  8. I have not yet started applying....but I am open to working at any top school in India or abroad in the field of HR....
  9. Hello everybody...this is my third such post on this website.....finally I seem to have found my calling.....I am final year year masters student pursuing Human Resource Management from the best college to do so in India. I believe my school is reputed in academic circles abroad as well since in the past students from my college have gone on to Stanford and UCLA to pursue their PhDs (not bragging but giving a perspective to the international members here so they can judge my profile better). I wish to pursue my PhD in Management with my areas of interest being Human Resources - performance management, learning and development, compensation and OD. I have average acads....a first class in my undergrad in Hospitality (I have no clue about my GPA as in undergrad we have a % system - I have a 68%) In my masters, my acads upto now are average (I hope to improve this as I have another year to go). I have a score of 7/10 (again, this is absolute and not relative) in my masters so far. I have scored well in sociology and psychology, core HR subjects and qualitative research...however my grads are average in quantitative research(statistics). I have worked for year and a half as a revenue manager (yield management) for a conglomerate in their hotels devision and also was a visiting faculty at a hotel school. I am currently pursuing my internship (consulting role) at a top consulting firm (its a big four audit firm as well). Also, I am doing my credited final year research in Positive Organizational Behaviour. Also, I have presented a paper at a local conference. I am currently assisting a prof with his research on Sales force management and pricing (two different projects). I can get good reccomendations from my faculty and I am planning to work as a full time RA for a year after my course. I will be applying for a phd in 2016 and hopefully begin in 2017. I wanted to know whci schools should be realistic for me in the above scenario and is there anything that I can do to boost my profile.? Thank You!
  10. Hello there... I am posting here after ages....and with much more clarity in terms of what I want to do! I am very much interested in Pursuing a PhD in OB. My area of interest is related to Positive Org Behaviour/ Positive Org Scholarship. I am currently in the first year of my masters in HRM at top and highly respected program here in India (There have been students from my program that have gone to do their PhDs at schools like Stanford and UCLA). My aim is start a PhD in 2017, a year after I graduate as I plan to utilize that one year to work as a full time RA. I have no publications as of now except a couple of articles in a few business magazines run by b schools. But, we have a strong research component in my program where in we submit a thesis and is heavily credited and I wish to use this as a platform to do some solid research and hope to get it published in a decent journal. Also, I am assisting a faculty (who is working in the area of Sales Force Management and Employer Branding) with his research and there are good chances of me getting an authorship in one of his research papers. My grades have been average and I am trying my level best to get a good score at the masters program. I wish to know as to which programs should I target for my PhD assuming that my grades remain average, but I get a high GRE score (this is considering the fact that I have an aptitude for such competitive exams). Also, is there any way in which I can offset the damage that my average grades would do to my application? Lastly, I wish to know the names of some respected Middle Tier OB PhD programs in the US as I am aware of the top ones. Looking forward to some guidance wrt the questions I have posted. Thank You so much! :)
  11. Dear All, I had asked a similar question in the PhD forum and just wanted the views of people who are actually studying in the following programs or know about them or have a similar career goal as myself. Your inputs here would be really valuable. I have done my Undergraduate degree in Hospitality and also have work for a Indian Conglomerate for 17 months, as a Management Trainee and subsequently as an Asst Manager. Also I was a Visiting Faculty at a local Hotel School. I wish to do a PhD in Management (in a subject with a strong sociological variable) from a top B School in the USA or Europe. So from that perspective, what are the ideal Grad School or Post Graduate degree options for me. I am giving my GMAT in September. The few Programs I am looking at are: MS in Hospitality (Cornell) MiM (top european schools) M Phil in Research (Rotterdam School of Management) MS in Management (Simon School of Business) Other than these are there any other programs that I should look at? Also, will it be a problem if I do my MS in Hospitality with a specialization in Marketing and come back to a business school for a PhD? I do not wish to limit my self to the field of hospitality. Thanks!
  12. Thank You very much for the kind advice! Can you also suggest some grad school options for me? I want to research in a field that would allow me to study how society as a whole would affect a business, product or an organisation. As I have mentioned before, I am looking at the following courses : 1. MiM / MSc in Business from some of the top European schools viz. HEC Paris, LBS etc. 2. M.Phil in Business research from Erasmus University. 3. MSc in Business Research from Tilburg University. 4. MS in Management from Simon School of Business. 5. M.A. in Developement Studies from a top School in my country. 6. M.A. in Human Resources and Labour Relations. ( I know this sounds too specific and HR oriented, but I know someone who did this course from a top Institute in my country and went on to do a PhD in Marketing at Stanford.) Are the above options suitable? (Ofcourse assuming I get through these programs) I would prefer doing a PhD from some of the top B Schools in the USA. Thanks a lot!
  13. Thank you so much... You have no idea how relieved I felt on reading your post!! Thanks!:victorious:
  14. Thank you so much for your feedback. I am still exploring my interests pertaining to the field of management. But one thing, I am sure of is that, I would love to research a subject which involves the study of people, cultures, politics and their influence on business, organisations, products etc. This inclination has risen from my love for travelling and politics. I recently backpacked across central and eastern Europe as I had read a lot about communism, the cold war etc. and just wanted to experience the culture of that part of the world. Sorry for shooting off topic, but what I want to convey is that I love people and would love study something which has a strong sociological, political and cultural variable. Unfortunately, I have not had a formal education in the field of Business / Management, thus I am not able to precisely zero in on a field like marketing, strategy, IB etc. I hope you understand my dilemma. Considering, the above, what do you think would be an ideal way forward for me? Would my degree in Hospitality prove to be a hindrance in my aspirations of a Business PhD? Thank You!
  15. Thank You so much for your kind reply. I read the posts by some of you here and also went through a lot of other posts and business school websites. What I gather from the data I have now, is that for a PhD in Marketing / IB a strong sociological background is preferred. (Am I right here?). Thus, will it help me if I pursue a Masters in Development Studies from a very reputed school in my country? This not only would acquaint me with sociology related subjects, but also quant based subjects like Econometrics, Statistics etc. Also, the school offers Marketing as an elective as it is a subject in another program in the same school and students are allowed to choose two subjects (totaling 4 credits) from other schools. Also, this course would also introduce me to a lot of study areas related to Markets, Organisations and Economies post which I can even apply to a PhD in the Management Area and / or International Business, depending on what my interests really are. I am really keen on doing a PhD from a good school. I just cant see myself as anything but a Professor at a Business School. Please do respond. Thanks a ton, once again!
  16. Thank You so much for replying! Why do you think that an MS In Hospitality would hurt my application??? (Was quite keen on the program !:( As for my timing of the application, that would depend on my Masters Program. If its a one year program I am thinking of working as an Research Assistant for a year and I will apply when I am Doing my RAship. If its a two year program, I will look for opportunities to do some kind of research work or work under a prof during the program itself and apply in the final year. Can you please name some programs which you think are better as you have mentioned?? Thanks a Lot!!
  17. Thank you for a prompt reply!! Coming to the questions, I am yet to give the GMAT but I am looking at a score of 740+. My Undergrad GPA is between 3.3 to 3.5 / 4. My areas of Interest are : International Marketing, International Business, Consumer Behaviour and Political Economy. I am not applying directly to a PhD as My Undergrad degree is of three years and I have heard that in the USA most major Schools require a four year degree.
  18. Thank You very much for the prompt reply.@XanthusAres and @rsaylors. As asked...by @rsaylors: I am yet to give my GMAT. I am aware that a score in excess of 700 is preferred for a PhD program and I am aiming for a score of around 750. It shall be confirmed in September, when I actually give the Test. My Undergrad GPA is between 3.3 to 3.5 out of 4. Also I am aware that Management is not Marketing. I can directly apply to a PhD but, in my country a Non Engineering Undergrad is of three years and I was told that many schools would reject me on that basis. Thus I am keen on doing my masters before I apply for a PhD. Also, a good Masters program from a good school with good grades will only boost my application. This is what I am thinking. @XanthusAres: The timing of my application will again depend on the duration of the program. If the it is a One Year Program that I get into than I would like to work for a year as a Research Assistant with a prof at a good school and preferably in the field or a field related to my Interests. If it is a two year program and there are opportunities for some kind of research activities during the program than I may apply in my final year itself. Of course all this is what I have figured out with my limited knowledge. Also, can you also suggest a few other programs as mentioned by you? @rsaylors and @XanthusAres: My field of interests are Services marketing, Branding, International Business and Politics. Thank You so much guys. Thank You!!

  20. Guys...this is my first post in this forum.... I have a query pertaining to my masters degree plans, based on which I wish to do a PhD. Guys I am a Hotel Management grad and was working as a Revenue Manager in the Sales and Marketing domain for a Hotels division of a prominent Indian Conglomerate. I wish to pursue a PhD for I have discovered my love for teaching and research. I also was a Visiting Faculty at a Hotel School in Mumbai teaching at Undergrad Level. I now wish to do a PhD. Thus, I am planning to apply for a research Masters degree at Tilburg and Erasmus. Post which I wish to do a PhD. I have two doubts now: 1) What are the prospects of applying to top B Schools in the USA and getting an admit for their PhD program after the above mentioned programs. Ofcourse, considering that my grades are upto the mark? Are the US Schools biased against schools in Europe? 2) Which of the above two schools are better in terms of academics? Thank You so much! Looking forward to a reply!
