So, I am very humbled and lucky to have been accepted into one of my top choices for the upcoming semester, but I'm a nervous nelly and want to make sure I'm getting answers to important questions before I give my soul away to a university. So, what questions do you think are most important to ask before signing on the dotted line and actually accepting? I'm not necessarily asking about how to pick the best school out of a batch of schools that have sent acceptances, but rather how to make it easier for anxious folk like myself to commit. :)

So I have a few interviews where interested faculty want to talk about their papers that mesh with my research interests. Has anyone encountered this in their interview process? What aspects of the research do faculty focus on? I figure I'll need to be pretty well-versed in the general details of the research, the design, areas of future exploration, and why my interests align with the research. Should anything else be on my radar? Appreciate any help. I'm in marketing (if that helps any).

Based on conversations with faculty at "top 50" schools, the applicant split for quant/CB is heavily skewed to CB, but schools are looking to make more of an effort to beef up their quant candidates because of the gradual shift towards quantitative analysis in the marketing space. I was informed by faculty at more than one school that the rate of acceptance for quant candidates is likely to be higher compared to that for CB candidates. Though, my hunch is that this could simply be a function of quant candidates having a tighter range of qualification (since it's a more scientific space, candidates need to be mathy/econ folk as opposed to CB where you get a wider range of undergraduate/graduate competencies in candidates). Regardless, best of luck to you!

Do marketing departments tend to be the most casual within the business school? My undergraduate experience definitely taught me that marketing students were the most casual by far...

Yeah, HBS sounds like they sent out all interview requests for marketing. Good luck to those of you who applied!

Received wonderful news of an on-campus interview for a marketing PhD program. While I don't want to share information about the actual school, I was hoping you experienced folk could impart some knowledge on what to expect from an interview. I'm set to meet faculty, but am unsure if I should expect casual conversations for folks to get to know me (and for me to get to know them) or to be "quizzed" on my material knowledge and awareness of faculty research. Also, what key questions should I make sure to ask? I'm likely to get caught-up in the excitement and don't want to leave with questions I forgot to ask after a full day on campus. Thanks, all!
