  1. Hello all, I just finished my GMAT test. This is my second attempt at the GMAT test . My first score was a 640 (Q 48 and V 31). I am posting my experience. My first advise to all of you guys "TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEALTH". No matter how much you study, its the D day which matters most. Yesterday , I was running high temperature (100 degrees) and had headaches. I caught the flu which has been going around. I was falling sick continuously for the last three weeks. I am not sure why but in the middle of each week , I get fever. I didn't go to a Doctor and relied on some OTC's. I had taken couple of anibiotics (Mox) and Tylenol to subside the fever yesterday. Today , I was feeling better but was still feverish. Anyways, I decided to go for the exam . I had nothing to lose but get some valuable experience for next time , if at all !! I went with the stratergy that if I do well , then get the scores otherwise cancel it. AWA as usual was a breeze . Argument was trivial and so was essay. Quantitative was a disaster. I totally messed up my timing . I spent a lot of time initially. Wasn't reading the questions well and had to read some again . I got one Probl and one statistics Q. Pretty trivial ones. I also got a problem similar to [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] # 329. I just guessed on that one. I think I got everything right until Q#16. But I consumed too much time initially. I had to hurry up towards the end. Finally, I randomly guesses on 4 questions at the end. I would recomend people to join Scoretop and be a VIP member. I found that website a few weeks back and went through some of their math questions. I didn't solve all of them but focused mostly on stats and probability problems. I got 3 questions from what I solved. Anyways, I was really relaxed in Verbal as I knew I had bombed in Quant. First two questions were SC . Next I got a Science passage .It was 75 lines and very convoluted. I took too much time in reading and understanding the passage . Timing again was an issue and I had to randomly guess the last couple of questions. CR was easy. I didn't get any boldface(an indication that I wasn't doing well). SC was OK. RC's - 4 passages. (3-4 Questions each) My preparation (3 months) 1. [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip],Kaplan, Testmagic, Scoretop 2. Gave a lot of tests . I was pretty inconsitent in my scores. 3. My Powerprep scores (PP1 -- Before [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] 760, PP2 -- After [tooltip=Official Guide]OG[/tooltip] -- 760) Moral of the story (other than me being so dumb :) ) 1. Take care of you health before the test. 2. I have realized that the most important part of the test is timing . I am not sure what kind of stratergy should be followed for the timing. My startergy was to use Ursula's guideline for timing. But in the real test , I was way off.
  2. More and more computer programs that provide solutions to mathematical problems in engineering are being produced, and (1) it is thus increasingly unnecessary for practicing engineers to have a thorough understanding of fundamental mathematical principles. Consequently, in training engineers who will work in industry, less emphasis should be placed on mathematical principles, (2) so that space in the engineering curriculum will be available for other important subjects. The two portions in boldface play which of the following roles? (A) The first is the second-premise that the argument includes; the second is the conclusion that could be drawn from this passage. (B) The first is the fact that is necessary for this argument; the second is the conclusion that must be drawn from this passage. © The first is the part of premise that the argument includes; the second is the inference that could be drawn from this passage. (D) The first is the part of evidence that supports this argument; the second is the inference that could be drawn from this passage. (E) The first is the first conclusion in this argument; the second is the second conclusion in this argument. I have my GMAT day after tomorrow. So any quick HELP would be highly appreciated.
  3. I go for A. The only two close options are A and D. in the eastern United States will typically devastate an area 100 times greater than will a quake of comparable magnitude occuring in the west is akward . Also, I am suspicious about the use of "will"
  4. D for me too , "it" is ambiguous in A and B.
  5. Answer is D. Minum is 3Q. Hence amount of BP = 5% of 3 = 0.15 Lets say maxim added is xQ. Hence amount of BP = 0.2x Total BP in mixture = 0.15 + 0.2x Now, Total quantity of mixture = 3 + x. Given BP % = 15 % Hence , 0.15 + 0.2x = 0.15 (3 +x). which gives x = 6Q The whole idea id to form an algebraic equation.

I dont agree with the OA. A = X hrs . In one hour A will complete 1/X. B is twice as fast. Hence B = X/2 hr. In one hour B will complete . 2/X Hence, working together A and B will complete 1 /X + 2/X =3/X of the work. Hence time taken to do the work together = X/3 hrs.
  7. Amit, 1. D. A and B use "have had" present perfect which doesnt make sense During a time C and In a time E are unidiomatic and dont make sense at all. 2. D D is the only one which makes the meaning clear, "measures" are necessary
  8. Its A. This was discussed a number of times before . Check this out: http://www.www.urch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14481&highlight=ethnicity+undermining
  9. I disagree with the OA. B is outside the scope of the argument. E should be it
  10. Yes. D is the answer. DLMD Remember whenever the question involves percentages and numbers, you should always think how the percentages relates to the numbers. Lower percentage doesnt necessarily mean lower numbers.
  11. Another Vote for D. The argument relies on the assumption that its possible to distinguish weed from crop plants on basis of color
  12. I got the problem from scoretop. (another website). You can pay $20 and get access to Real test Questions. I find the math quesstions good for practise. I don't expect to see any of the questions on my real exam. ETS has thousands of questions. But you at least practise math at the level being tested.
  13. oops Answer should be 135. 15 * 3 + 12 * 3 + 9 *3 + 6 *3 + 3 * 3 = 135 Any better approach.
  14. There are three reps from each of the six companies. in how many ways can they shake hand, without shaking hands with their colleagues from the same company?
  15. 291.The sum of 9 numbers is 18000, is the greatest number greater than 5000? 1) The median of the numbers is 2000. 2) The smallest number is 1000.
  16. If d=2^64 d^d=2^p then p=?
  17. Q1. 1 only gives the first 4 terms. We are not sure of the rest of the terms in the sequence . 2. You can find the 999th term Hence, B is the answere Q2 1. Picking nos 8-1/6 , 14-1/6 All have rem of 1. Hence y should be 8,14,etc. rem =2 2. 3y/6 3*2/6 or 3*4/6. Rem can be 2 or 4. Hence insufficient. Q3. you can obviously eliminate 1. But not so sure about 2. Why can't a and b be divisble by 7. Are we to assume that a and b dont have any other factors.
  18. I know that parabolas are at least tested. Graph of a quadratic equation is a parabola. y = a (x - h) ^2 + k^2 remember if a > 0, Graph is a Smiley (U) if a You would be mos likely asked to find is a line intersects with a parabola or not.
  19. Also, I the last PR test , I got 8 RCs (length 45 - 75) and 4 of them had one question each. Is this what I should expect. thanks dsk
  20. I found these questions in Princeton Review Tests. I find the solns very suspicious. Q#20 - How can A be right . We dont know how many people were polled. So How Can A be right. Q#19 - Why isnt A right too. A says >= 81 %. Thats equal to So why is A wrong. thanks, dsk Doubts.doc
  21. Hi, I have My GMAT on the 27th of this month. Here are my tests Till now: (in chronological order) 1. Kaplan 1 - 620 2. Kaplan 2 - 540 3. PP1 - 760 4. 800 score Test#2 - Math 57 Verbal 39 5. 800 Score Test#3 - Math 57 Verbal 37 6. Cambridge GMAT#1 - 710 - 750 7. Cambridge GMAT#2 - 610-650 8. Cambridge GMAT #3 - 710-750 9. Princeton Review#2 - 690 10 Princeton Review#3- 590 I see that my scores are very inconsistent. The last PR test was today and I was shocked to see the score. I expected around 650 as I hadn't really done well. I had around five silly mistakes in Math which really bogged me down. I plan to give only two more tests - one on this coming Wednesday (PR#4) and one on Sunday (PP#2). Can anyone really give me any tips as to how to avoid this inconsistency . I need a score between 670-700. Do you think i'll get one. thanks dsk
