  1. I think I will do that also. I will first ask the faculty I am working with before I learn any new programs. I'd like to preserve as many brain cells as possible for all of the learning I need to do!
  2. I've received lots of help here so glad to be of use! Here is a link that gives reasons why LaTeX is a good option even if there are not lots of equations (coming from Humanities student): Why your should LaTeX your dissertation; or, why you don’t have to write your dissertation in Word. | AmShazam. Part of me wants to learn just so that I can have this option for the dissertation, but the other part of me doesn't want to waste time on something I may not sure too much and that will have a steep learning curve. Other students I asked in OB said they used MS, but I'd like to ask people what they used for their dissertation.
  3. I have heard lots of great things about LaTex, but I'm not sure if it makes sense for Organizational Behavior. Does anyone have any insight for this, or will Microsoft Word work just fine? Thanks.
  4. Best of luck, StayStrong! This week I also got word that I have been wait listed at my top choice. Interestingly enough, they told me that they are pretty sure an opening will be available to me, but this waiting game can really take a toll. I'm just trying to keep busy so that the days go by quickly!
  5. Thank you all for your replies and for helping me see I'm not alone in this type of experience! It's taken me a concerted effort to not obsess over the admissions process, but it's so hard not to do so. I will go ahead and email the coordinators to find out my status. Good idea, daffodil. I will keep my chin up -there is always next year if this year doesn't work out anywhere.
  6. I'm still waiting to hear from Texas A&M Mays management program in OB and Rice University's Strategic Management program. Not sure whether I should lose hope at this point. If anyone has any info on those programs, help a friend out!! :distracted:
  7. So that being the case, PhdPlease (or anyone who wants to chime in), would you be willing to bring it to the attention of the director of the prgram if you were in my position? I don't want to get in on a technicality, but I also don't want to be excluded based on discriminatory questions.
  8. I think you're most definitely right about that. So would you bring it up to the program director (who is a HR specialist) or just leave it be? Like I said earlier, I don't really want that to be the reason I am in, but at the same time, I wouldn't want it to be the reason I'm not in either.
  9. Thanks for all the feedback! The interesting thing is that I happen to have some insider knowledge about this place, and there has never been discrimination against families or anything of the sort. As a matter of fact, some students have been admitted while pregnant or soon after having babies (and the faculty have known this). It also strikes me as odd because I was interviewed twice by two separate faculty, and one did not even come close to asking this question, and the other one did. So it seems to me that it is not systemic, but I just happened to get that one interviewer who would be willing to ask. That being said, I did make it to the next round of the short list albeit not the top pick to make campus visits. I can't help but think that the question I was asked had a little something to do with it. But, I definitely wouldn't want to get into a program just because the school wants to avoid a lawsuit. I want them to feel I am a good fit, and vice versa.
  10. Yes, because I was asked "Do you have any external constraints such as a family?" So I took that to mean that a family was viewed as a negative thing.
  11. Well, the exact question was "Do you have any external constraints such as a family?" Because of the way it was worded I did worry that my family would be perceived as a negative thing. I also wasn't sure that the question was asked to all candidates because it was not a scripted interview.
  12. I was asked that at one of my interviews and I wasn't entirely sure if it was legal. Any thoughts on that?
