  1. My suggestion would be to take higher level courses related to those. Having good marks there, you can market your self better.
  2. I think it is terrible to had only 3 waitlisted offers and receive nothing after 15th. Well I think I am out of the game. So sad after being so close :(
  3. Well I got three waitlisted offers. And that's all. Today and tomorrow going to kill me.. Such a pressure
  4. I also decided to refresh some math as I have done most of them 8 - 9 years back. I am now reading Simon and Blume. However, I couldn't find Rudin for real Analysis. It was there in my university. But I have no access now and cannot find in any shops near where I live. If any one of you can suggest a book for Real Analysis it would be great
  5. my vote is also goes to Econhead. Of course there are lot of others who offer lots of help. Respect all of them.
  6. I got invitation by email. I am too waitlisted so waiting for a answer, fingers crossed. If the got funding i ll most probably attend.
  7. Thank you all for your valuable inputs. As suggested by few of you I thought of writing to Tufts requesting an extension. I also like the Tufts program. But if I tell them the real story, that I got another offers and waiting for funding, would it be ok. I mean I am signaling i might not come to tufts at all. End of the day admission to a PhD us my goal and it would be better if it is in this cycle thanks again all of you
  8. Thank you melkisedek I have been admitted to the 2 yr program and can continue to the 2nd yr based on the 1st yr results. I have considered LSE but London is a costly city and would not be able to live with the given scholarship. Well that may goes with Boston too. I am fine with existing PhD offers but waiting for those and not getting in may result in another one yr delay to start a master. Now the issue is I am already 30 yrs old. I have applied to UBC and didn,t get any result yet. But I have seen some acceptance in GC. I didn't heard from UWO too. If I get into one of those two I will definitely go. Then again there is a chance that I might not get anyone of that. But, given the quality I may consider LSE for next cycle. I am in a real mess here. :(
  9. Hi All As we near the end of admission cycle, these are my results so far PhD - Admitted but waitlisted for funding:- Iowa State, Houston, Missouri PhD - 3 Rejections and 2 implicit rejections MA - Admitted :- Tufts (10k tuition waiver) MA - 1 implicit and 1 no decision yet (UWO) Now the problem I am facing is this. I have to accept the Tufts offer before 15th April. However, I will get decisions on waitlisted offers only after 15th of April. My ultimate goal us to get a PhD in Economics. As I am an international student I won't be able to come for PhD without funding. But, I can get a scholarship from my government for Master and therefore, I can attend Tufts and apply after one year for PhDs again. I would love to get into a PhD in this cycle and I know that there is some possibility that I could get funding from above offers. But waiting for that to happen may result in no funding offers as well as Not being able to go Tufts too. I know that it is not possible any of you to give exact answer for me. But any one of you can give your opinion and share known past experiences would be greatly help me to take a decision. What would you do if you are in my shoes? Please help me. Thank you
  10. Hey I am an international student. Hence could not attended to visit day. If any of you have gone there please share your overall view on the department
  11. Thank you senorfluffy. It is indeed helpful. Always first hand information is valuable more than anything else.
  12. Thank you senorfluffy. My interest are mainly in international and monetary gievn the exposure to those areas during my 4 + years in goverment policy instituiton.
  13. If anyone familiar with one of the above programs, please shed some light into the following matters. Your help is always appreciated as this is the forum I got most of the knowledge regarding application process, otherwise I would not have access to :) 1. Attrition rate, importantly do the departments weed off people through comps 2. Possibility of funding from 2nd year and afterwards 3. What happens to funding, I am not passed the comps first time 4. Faculty interactions and helpfulness 5. Any other thing that is important to know. Thank you in advance
  14. Hi. Sorry for jumping to the thread. I am also interested to know about U of Houston. Please comment If you know any information on followings 1. High attrition rate? 2. Funding if I failed comps first times? Thank you
  15. I think i owe you two apologies. First posting a similar kind of 'please post in GC' and second for mag I ve sent to you requesting some ideas. The case is that i just got one offer and that too is waitlisted for funding. I couldnt go there as I am an international. But advice and opinion very well taken. No one should be pressured as they have earned a right make decision in given time and as above post stated you nevere know when things can improve for better. So please accept my apologies. Congradulations for all the people who have offers. I should thanks to this forum and GC for making my life easier in the application process. Without them i would not come even to this far. So thank you evry participant in this forum and I will wait for a decision and extrwamly sorry for any inconvenience cuased by my psots.
  16. Another week ... waiting for a good news.... this implied rejection thing killing me .. at least if they send the rejections I could sleep
  17. To: teddyb and phd hopeful well I may not be the right person to advice anyone in this forum as I am quite new to all the process. I also applied several programs, which are lower ranked, but no funded admission yet which for me is same as rejection as a international applicant and I am quite old and this is my first and last try. I know its hurt a lot. But remain strong and you will be able to get it next cycle ( may be even in this in a second round, you never know) just wrote as a peer applicant.
  18. Is syracuse out already. I am really worried.
  19. Thank you. Then I think I should let it go. My profile is a moderate one. It is a sad news. Lets see. There is 6 more to go, hopefully...
  20. Seems like Iowa has sent the admissions as per GC. But my profile says 'In progress' what that would mean. please someone tell me. I am getting really nervous here.Same with Kentucky too. I have seen a one post in GC. No idea whether they are real or fake. This is going to be a tough time :(
  21. Seems like waiting is indeed a killer. I applied mostly to universities that have Feb 01 deadline. So the waiting will be little longer. About the funding; is this year going to be tough for funded offers?????? I am an international student and without funding I have no chance of getting into. I applied to 50 - 75 universities
  22. Thank you all I would leave SOP then and add the details to additional material section of end of CV. If anyone could please tell me, how about trying to mitigate effect of C+ on differential equation by pointing out my another subject which used the same material for which I got A- For applied stat section, I got A in Econometrics class and the professor is willing to give me a letter of recommendation too. SO I think that will be OK Thank again for all the people who replied
