  1. Do NOT just read, your comments are way important to me to improve my writing skills! Thanks alot! #133: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? A person's childhood years (the time from birth to twelve years of age) are the most important years of a person's life. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. Some people may agree with the statement that a person's childhood years are the most important years of a person's life. However, I contradict this statement. This point of view is based on the propensity of the following reasons. First of all, childhood years do not give people necessary skills to make a living. Although people learn some skills to conduct themselves in society in their childhood, this cannot be regarded as a tool to make a living, which is certainly the most important to people. Only can people get necessary knowledge and expertise at high school or college to face the challenges of their careers and support themselves or their families. As a result, childhood years are not that important. In addition, childhood years do not give people the best friends in life. When most adults look back, they surprisingly find that they almost forget the friends they made in childhood years. The friends they often stay together with are either college classmates or work colleagues. As friends are the most valuable aspect of people’s lives, the period in which people make the closest friends should be regarded as the most important time. Therefore, childhood years are not important enough for people’s lives. The last, childhood years do not give people a lot of impressive experiences. As children are under the care of parents, they rarely could understand the complexity of the society. It is a common notion that people become familiar with the overall environment and society when they are in adulthood. When people are in high school or college, they sense the importance of competition and experience the joy of success and sorrow of failure. However, people could hardly taste these aspects in their childhood years. Thus, in the end I would like to conclude by saying that childhood years do not provide a lot of impressive experiences to an individual. As a result, they are not as important as the adulthood of a person.
  2. No people would like to take this topic? I would have a try. Anyways, Comments, please. #015: Neighbors are the people who live near us. In your opinion, what are the qualities of a good neighbor? Use specific details and examples in your answer. What are the qualities of a good neighbor? The answer to this question may involve a variety of factors. In my own opinion, I believe that a good neighbor should be easy to communicate, willing to help people, and sharing the same interests with others. First of all, a good neighbor should be easy to communicate. No people enjoy having a neighbor who always ignores them or is cold to them. Communication makes the relations closer and even enables people to become very good friends. For instance, my neighbor has very good personal relations with me since he likes to talk to me about his ideas and enjoys listening to my responses. As a result, sound communication indeed is the utmost important quality of a good neighbor. In addition, a good neighbor should be able to help people when they encounter difficulties or problems. When people encounter problems at home, they definitely wish to receive kind assistance from others. Besides family members, neighbor is the most immediate people who can give you a hand. For example, when I am away from town for business, I sometimes ask my neighbor to look after my pets. Fortunately, my neighbor is willing to help me and actually treats mine like his own. I am proud to have such a kind and nice neighbor. The last, a good neighbor should share interests and enjoy excitements with others together. It is a common belief that people are willing to have fun and spend a good time with one another. As a soccer fan, I prefer to watch the game with my friends and grasp some beers while enjoying the show. If a neighbor could join me and talk about soccer games and those star players, it would be terrific. In conclusion, a neighbor serves as a very significant person to the life of an individual. People would be definitely fortunate if they could have a neighbor who can frequently communicate with them, are willing to give a hand and join for the common interests.
  3. Thanks for your comments, Vaya. I think, yes, my ideas are still a little bit narrow. Anyways, I still have a few days to prepare for TWE. By the way, I wrote this essay as a practice within about 25 mins.
  4. I do not guess so because ETS could not give out a definite explanation why "factory" does not make sense in the topic.
  5. Well, I do believe that all non-countable nouns can be simply added an "S" depending on occasions! For example, "peoples" means a variety of peoples. So same thing, informations, fishes and so on. Therefore, if you want to express a variety of something, just simply add an "s", that's it.
  6. Thanks for your reply, Vaya. What I want to point out is that if I encounter this tpoic in a real TOEFL exam, I would write a living thing without any hesitation, just like what you said. But my question is, what is wrong if somebody does write a factory, and will the score be "0" because he or she misunderstands the topic?
  7. #155: Plants can provide food, shelter, clothing, or medicine. What is one kind of plant that is important to you or the people in your country? Use specific reasons and details to explain your choice. Well, I believe that most people's comprehension to this topic is that this topic asks us to write down something about a kind of vegetation. But "plant" has two meanings, one is of course "vegetation", what about anothing meaning "factory"??? so ... food factory, shelter from the rain in a factory, clothing factory, or medicine factory??? this will definitely cause two different ideas and two completely diferent answers. confused ...
  8. Hi Billy, comments on my essay, and score it if you would like. Thanks. #034: Businesses should hire employees for their entire lives. Do you agree or disagree? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. Some people may consider that hiring employees for their entire lives is a good idea. However, my opinion is just the opposite. I totally disagree with the statement that business should hire lifetime employees. The reasons are illustrated below. First of all, hiring lifetime employees will undoubtedly increase the financial burden of a company. Lifetime employment system means that a company has to bear the costs of employment maintenance so as to ensure the employment stability. In other words, even when a company suffers financial difficulties, the company still needs to pay their employees unless it declares bankruptcy. Essentially, a company with such a heavy financial load is almost impossible to have more funds available to invest the development of products and technologies. Therefore, hiring lifetime employees is undesirable. Additionally, hiring lifetime employees will completely forfeit the competitive ability of a company. To survive in the competitive market, a company must have new ideas, fresh blood and distinctive products. However, lifetime employment makes it impossible. If a company is full of lifetime employees, it would have no more job positions to absorb better professionals and thus is unable to adjust itself to adapt the competitive market. As is known to all, survival of the fittest is a universal truth. A company with no competitiveness will sooner or later be eliminated by market. As a result, hiring lifetime employees is unsuitable. Lastly, hiring lifetime employees will definitely prevent the development of a company. Lifetime employment can hardly motivate employees. Working under this system, employees never really want to learn something new to improve their skills or increase their knowledge because they will never get fired even though they are the most unwanted in the company. This will worsen the work conditions and make the company no progress. No progress means no development. A company without development is doomed to disappearance in the society. Consequently, hiring lifetime employees is quite disadvantaged. In conclusion, based on the three reasons I presented above, I firmly commit to the notion that business should not hire employees for their entire lives. As a result, a flexible employment system is more practical in today's society.
  9. Hi, guyz. I'm quite new to this forum. Here's my essay, need your comments and, of course, a score since I'm gonna take TOEFL next week. Thank you all! #065: Should a city try to preserve its old, historoc buildings or destroy them and replace them with modern buildings? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion. Some people may hold the opinion that a city should destroy its old, historic buildings and replace them with modern buildings. Others, however, may have a negative attitude. As far as I am concerned, I extremely advocate that a city should try to preserve its old, historic buildings. There are three premier reasons going as follows. First of all, historic buildings are symbols of cities. With no these historic buildings, a lot of cities will lose their meaningful significance. In fact, a historic building not only is the symbol of a city, but also represents the culture of a country. For example, people are aware of political freedom and democracy of the United States from the Statue of Liberty, understand long history of China from the Great Wall, and know romantic art style of France from the Eiffel Tower. Therefore, without these historic buildings, cities, and even countries, will be definitely overshadowed. In addition, historic buildings are also important resource for historical education. Undoubtedly, every historic building has its own precious historic value. For instance, the Forbidden Palace is one of the most famous historic buildings in China. Every year, a lot of people go to visit this building. Not only are people impressed by its grand architecture, but also do they gain rich historical knowledge about the lifestyles of Chinese emperors of Qing Dynasty. Consequently, historic buildings enable people to increase their historical knowledge. The last, historic buildings are good resource for tourism as well. Quite obviously, tourists are willing to visit places where offer historic interests and scenic spots. For example, Lushan, one of China’s famous mountains, attracts millions of visitors every year. Not only its natural scenic beauty, but also abundant historical relics, such as Jiang Jieshi’s (the first president of Chinese Kuomintang) villa, make this mountain a remarkable heritage in the world. As a result, historic buildings can definitely increase the number of visitors. Thus, in the end I would like to conclude by saying that old, historic buildings indeed play a vital role in symbolic significance, historical education and tourism resource of a city. As a result, preserving the old, historic buildings of a city is definitely necessary.
