  1. Thank you for the link. This turns out different than what I thought about "different than." Just a quick question: does the fact that it's used idiomatically by native speakers make it acceptable in (formal) writing? I have learned that native speakers carry many "bad" habits with them when they speak or write. For example: you should eat more healthy(healthful) food.
  2. I'm not English native but isn't it that your ideas are different from instead of than his/hers? I'm so new to this forum I don't even know most of the famous/infamous users here, but I am immediately picky with your grammar because I cannot believe that you compare your situation to that of Galileo. I apologize for my mean and pedantic comment.
  3. Some are my own experiences and some are recommendation from others Intro: Micro(Goolsbee) Macro(no idea) Intermediate: Micro(Varian new) Macro(Blanchard; Manfred Gartner's book is very concise and dense; Sorensen and Whitta-Jacobsen have a pretty good one bridging intermediate and advanced) Advanced: Micro(MWG and perhaps Kreps?) Macro(Romer)
  4. I also heard that at Nuffield they have abundant amount of funding compared to the rest of the colleges in Oxford?
  5. I read Chinese and found out much information on a Chinese forum about CEMFI. CEMFI is a very popular program for top Chinese applicants who aren't ready for PhD since all the good aspects you mentioned in your post are still true about this program. Moreover, CEMFI places its top non-Chinese students very well while its top Chinese graduates might face fierce competition from other Chinese so the placement for Chinese students alone doesn't look as impressive, but that doesn't really matter for you if you are not Chinese :) Apparently even if you want to stay at CEMFI for PhD it's not a bad choice at all. Someone from Urch who knows CEMFI and BGSE told me that if you are interested in macro and you think you are a star in the field then BGSE dominates CEMFI; if you are interested in micro and finance then CEMFI is the choice. I heard that TSE is excellent on micro as well.
