Hey folks, I'm starting to think about this fall, and I figured putting together a profile would be a good way to start organizing things. Broadly, I'm interested in IO-y things and Market Design-y things and Finance-y things.
At this point, I'm mostly interested in figuring out how many schools and what composition of schools I should be applying to. Reading through the results threads, I'm seeing 10 to 20 to beyond and getting completely bewildered. Given that I'm also interested in applying for finance, I guess I gotta start saving up those applications fees? Letters of Recommendation:
1) Prof from grad market design class. I also did an independent study with this professor.
2) Prof that I worked for as RA during undergrad, who also advised my undergraduate thesis.
3) Fed economist that I am currently working for.
Research Experience: Undergraduate Honors Thesis (market design)
Teaching Experience: None
Other: Currently working as an RA at one of the Feds. Won an award for outstanding RA in my first year.
My biggest concern is probably my grades, particularly the B's in Analysis, Macro, and Metrics. I worked a lot during college, especially sophomore year, with resulting dips in my GPA. I also flirted with a couple different career paths before settling into economics around junior year.
Regarding my letters, (1) I have a close relationship with, got A's in the grad class and our independent study (topics in game theory). For (2), he gave me a honors on my thesis, but otherwise I'm a little more in the dark with his opinion of me. (3) I have a coauthored paper in progress, and she has spoken highly of me to other economists, so I expect to be good. None of them are particularly famous so there's that. I'm hoping to have a chat with each of my letter writers sometime in the coming months to get a better sense of their thoughts.
