The admissions process is truly random. 2. My profile for one reason or another ended up much more attractive to finance programs than econ programs. Unexpected. 3. I was pretty much set on a finance program in the fall, but my interests ended up shifting more than I expected. I am very glad I had the option of an econ program in the end. 4. Survived getting a B in Analysis!!! Now going to spend the next couple months hanging with my girlfriend, reading random books, and chilling out! :)
  2. Maybe adjust for cost of living? $15k in Austin would probably be similar to $20k in a city like Chicago.
  3. They're definitely gone. I wonder if people are reporting them as spam, or the gradcafe admins are actively checking?
  4. You're right, I read the email more carefully and they mention interviews from 6pm - 7:30pm. I was hoping that the phone interview would be sufficient ...
  5. I got an invite to the Stern flyout, but no acceptance. Did this happen to anyone else? Am I implicitly wait-listed? Should I expect to be interviewed / further evaluated at the flyout? Very confused.
  6. Looks like that post got deleted again, and the poster tried a third time to post. Smells like a troll.
  7. Hey folks, I'm starting to think about this fall, and I figured putting together a profile would be a good way to start organizing things. Broadly, I'm interested in IO-y things and Market Design-y things and Finance-y things. At this point, I'm mostly interested in figuring out how many schools and what composition of schools I should be applying to. Reading through the results threads, I'm seeing 10 to 20 to beyond and getting completely bewildered. Given that I'm also interested in applying for finance, I guess I gotta start saving up those applications fees? Type of Undergrad: BA Econ (with honors) / BA Math from Top 10 Econ, graduated Spring 2014 Undergrad GPA: 3.8 Type of Grad: N/A Grad GPA: N/A GRE: V170/Q168 Math Courses: Calc III (A), Linear Algebra (A), Intro to Proofs (A), Analysis (B, A), Abstract Algebra (A, A-), Numerical Analysis (A) Econ Courses (undergrad-level): Micro I and II (A, A), Macro I and II (A-, B+), Game Theory (A), Honors Econometrics (B+), Time Series (A), Market Design (grad) (A), Numerical Methods (grad) (A) Other Courses: Statistics (A), Probability (A-), bunch of CS courses Letters of Recommendation: 1) Prof from grad market design class. Research Experience: Undergraduate Honors Thesis (market design) Teaching Experience: None Other: Currently working as an RA at one of the Feds. Won an award for outstanding RA in my first year. My biggest concern is probably my grades, particularly the B's in Analysis, Macro, and Metrics. I worked a lot during college, especially sophomore year, with resulting dips in my GPA. I also flirted with a couple different career paths before settling into economics around junior year. Regarding my letters, (1) I have a close relationship with, got A's in the grad class and our independent study (topics in game theory). For (2), he gave me a honors on my thesis, but otherwise I'm a little more in the dark with his opinion of me. (3) I have a coauthored paper in progress, and she has spoken highly of me to other economists, so I expect to be good. None of them are particularly famous so there's that. I'm hoping to have a chat with each of my letter writers sometime in the coming months to get a better sense of their thoughts.
