  1. It does get ridiculously competitive, at least for the top 10. Even with a master, 2 years of RA and a published paper.
  2. I mean even if the posts were true, why would you email the PhD admission coordinator and ask about your status? It looks kind of childish to me, just wait for them to contact you, they have there reasons... That is exactly what "trolls" want, they are impatients but do not want to look like it in front of ad com' so they post fake status hopping other people will email coordinators.
  3. Yes it s real, but it is personalize email with PDF attached so might take some time.
  4. I am pretty sure it s taken into consideration in the number of offers, like Chicago probably made 40 offers for 20 spots. I think a university like Brown would never reject a "too good" candidate. They would just make more offers, like 80 for 20 spots maybe. Also keep in mind that there is some auto-selection in the process. Super stars probably don't apply to schools outside top15.
  5. Just send a kind email about what the expected timeline is. I am currently working as an RA and can't imagine that my PIs would find that annoying.
  6. Congratz! I did not receive anything but people should not lose faith, I got wait listed last year without interview.
  7. Seems odd to me. Only one post on gradcafe.
  8. The water has not reached the bridge yet since I am re applying :distracted: However, they are still not my recommender. None of them did a PhD in the US and they are fairly unknown. On the opposite, my other writers are active professors in top econ department for whom I have worked full time as an RA for more than a year. Third one is a Professor from my UG that know me well and can account for my work as a student, he is used to these process. I don't know, maybe I could switch with him but I am pretty sure my co-authors never wrote any LoR for a US PhD.
  9. For what it's worth last year I did not break the top 10 with a co-authored top field and an other in R&R. It is kind of a small field though (energy economics). I got an offer from LSE and some itw at haas and columbia business school. My shortcomings were some weird math grades (European undergrad) and probably not strong enough letters (short term RA at top econ department). Please note that none of my co-author wrote me a letter. Not because I had a minor role (it was actually most of my work in both case) but because they are unknown in the US.
  10. How waitlists work for top 10 schools? Do they contact next person on the list as soon as they receive a rejection? Should I except something before April 15th? They did not say anything about the size of the waitlist nor the existence of a ranking.
  11. Maybe you are on the waitlist for beeing waitlisted... I received an email telling me I am on the waitlist and asking if I was still interested on march 16th. I asked about the waitlist length but they did not reply
  12. Just got WL at columbia BS econ & finance! Any idea about my chances...?
  13. Just got WL at columbia business school econ & finance. Any idea of my chances...?
  14. Probably if the same IP adresse is used for several posts
  15. My guess is that it s all about the LoR ...
  16. I got one and did not post it on Gradcafe. I am an international candidate but currently RA in the US. If that helps you, intertview was very short (at least for me) and focus on my research interests. They are suppose to get in touch with me this week or the next one to let me know if I am selected for the fly out interviews.
  17. - Economics undergrad and master (1 year only) in France at one of the best school but GPA not outstanding (at all!) - 1.5 full time RA at a top5 econ department in the US - 1 published and 1 RR at the same top field econ journal (both co authored)
  18. I got an Itw for Haas BPP. Does anyone have some berkeley specific informations?
  19. It is almost only for econ PhD in Business Schools. They are not sending all the invitations at the same time but I think (not 100% sure) that every candidates that ll end up in the program has to be interviewed. But you can be placed on WL without going through the itw process.
  20. Itw for Haas BPP !! Any tips?? I am so stressed now...
  21. I am getting super stress with my first rejection last week, got the feeling that I won't get accepted in a single place :s
  22. I am also very interested in ML. To my knowledge, very few (none?) econ PhD programs are showing interest to the application of ML in economics research. On a side note, if you are interested there is a complete introduction class to ML by a Stanford guy (Andrew Ng) available online for free (with practices exercice on Matlab).
  23. One of my professor did not submit his letter to a University with a 5th January dead line. Should I remind him or adcom wont read it anyway? NB: I have already 3 good letters but he used to be a lecturer there
  24. What about top 15? When should I start sweat, ,mid February?
