  1. I too have applied to UCSD. Haven't heard anything yet.
  2. I am also wondering about UCSD.
  3. I contacted the admissions. I was told that I was still on the shortlist for admission offers. However, not a part of the first round of offers which were sent earlier this month; and I would have to wait for the response of candidates. So, I inferred that I was waitlisted.
  4. Olin sent first round of offers a few days back. At least one unfortunate student is waitlisted :(
  5. I am not sure if accepting and then rejecting is a very good idea. The college can take offence, and rightly so. Academic community is quite small and you may have to network again with the same people. Amir- We are in March now (almost). A lot can happen in next two weeks in terms of results. There is a high probability that you would hear from your other colleges. Your can do this: Ask for extension and hope that you get one. At the same time, write to the colleges where you haven;t heard from and explain your situation and ask them to tell you where they are in the process.
  6. Hi, has anyone heard back from Olin after the interviews? There was supposed to be a campus visit during the last week of Feb. Did it happen? Thanks.
  7. Adcom might have clicked "I am feeling lucky"
  8. thank you. This is a very useful advice. This comes very naturally to me when I am at work- I wouldn't have thought twice to send the thank you mail- in fact not sending it is a problem. However, I wasn't sure if I should send a thank you note to the faculty after the interview, especially if it had been a too formal one, and if i would come across as 'awkward' (for want of a better word).
  9. Thanks Xan. I agree. My response to this question during the interview went one step beyond 'honest' and bordered on 'too candid'. I didn't realize it immediately but only after two days when I woke up at 3 am with the thought that I might have screwed it up. And that's when I posted this question. Fortunately, I heard back from the college and I was glad that the adcom didn't mind my 'too candid' response. But you are right, it could have gone either way.
  10. Hi, Has anyone heard from UC San Diego and UMichigan's finance department? I didn't come across any posts on GC for these colleges. If they have already sent interview invites, then knowing this would make life simpler.
  11. I took this rather seriously (in fact I might have overdone it!). I have had some experience in research as part of my job (~ 5 years), so I had some clear thoughts what I wanted to research on. I studied the research by the departments at nearly 20 univs in my area of interest. Shortlisted 10 univs and then identified 2-3 professors in each department. Then I wrote a very focused and customized SOP after reading close to 10-15 research papers for each SOP (as I mentioned earlier, I might have overdone it). I tried to make sure that my area of interest was not too narrow and also that at least 3-4 professors were researching in that area. I also tried to contact some of the members but it was either not-at-all helpful (mostly) or very helpful (very few places). Was this worth? Yes (at least at two places I believe I got the calls based on my SOP) and No (at lot of places I wasn't even in top 25). But I did feel really good after submitting my SOPs. I am also very clear in terms of what I want to research on. But unless this results in a positive outcome, what's the point?
  12. What is the right response to the interview question- 'If we give an admission offer, by when would you be able to make your decision?'?
  13. Thank you for your response. I agree if the univ has already spoken to 20+ candidates then another shortlist for interview looks difficult. It's better to know a negative early than keep on waiting for any news. Best wishes to you. Hope you hear something positive from them.
  14. I hope the highlight event need not be at the same time for all the departments. I am an international student so I am not really sure about the format of such an event though. btw, I heard from A&M and had the interview the other day. Did anyone on this forum hear from UWash or Insead- PhD Fin? I saw some invites on grad cafe. Looks like I am not going to hear from them.
  15. I don;t think so. Two of the schools I interviewed with had shortlisted close to 15-25 students. At least one of the schools told me that decisions would be communicated after 30-40 days (I was interviewed late Jan, and the results would be told by late Feb or March first week). Another school was hopeful of reaching/communicating some result within a week. So, I guess it would vary school to school and department to department!
