  1. Haha yeah I heard that Boston schools had one or two snow days recently. Somehow none of the schools in Boston are getting back to me :(. This February will be one of the longest February in my life.
  2. I also applied to DBA Management and hadn't heard back from the school yet. I did see one interview posted on Grad Cafe, but that is the only posting so I'm not sure.
  3. I guess it really depends on schools and programs. If you were offered an interview, go ahead and ask the interviewer about it.
  4. I'm also doing my first interview this weekend! I'm going to talk with a professor that I didn't mention in my SOP, and I think the professor is taking the interviewer role cause he is a PhD coordinator. Will I still be prepared to talk about the professor's past research? They do not exactly align with my research interests.
  5. Congrats everyone !!!!!!!!! Go celebrate yourself!
  6. Wharton Management sent out rejections. I didn't receive interview invitation (I know that they already sent out invitations) but I am not rejected as well. Does this mean that I'm on a waitlist?
  7. Did anyone hear from boston college? There's one post on the gradcafe about getting a flyout interview, but the person did not specify which department (just says business administration). I applied to Organization Studies and Boston college is one of my top choices :((
  8. Management/OB applicant here. UW seattle is moving fast given that they had a jan deadline!
  9. Hi everyone! I'm planning to apply to strategy phd programs this year. I know that I cannot make any dramatic changes in my profile at this point and is focusing on reading journals and researching schools/faculties that match my interest. However, I'm still not sure of the range of school that would be reasonable for me to target. I appreciate if you could give me some recommendations. Thank you in advance! Test Scores (GMAT/GRE): Taking GRE in 2 weeks. I scored 330(V160, Q170 W4.0) in mock exams. (ETS conversion says the GMAT equivalent score is 750). Undergrad GPA: 3.91/4.00, double major in Econ and Math, ivy league school Graduate GPA: N/A Research Experience: I do not have RA/academic thesis writing experience, but I conducted market research during my work(research on Japanese solar energy/electricity market, Southeast Asian private equity strategies etc.) Teaching Experience: 1 year as a grader in intro statistics, calculus I, and calculus II. Conducted homework tutorial sessions(1-to-1 Q&A sessions) for calculus I/II. Work Experience: 1.5 years in insurance & 2 years in asset management. Both entities were under a large Asian conglomerate. I am one of the founding members of the asset management company in a foreign country. I became interested in studying corporate strategy during the experience in establishing and drawing strategic pictures for the new company. Letter of Recommendations: 2 from econ professors(1 econometrics, 1 math intensive econ), 1 from my current company boss. It's been a while since I left the college so I am not sure how strong the letters from the professors will be. I received good scores from their classes, but honestly I didn't have any personal connections with them. My boss really knows me well and he will write a strong letter for me. Econ/Math Courses: Intro Stats & Probability(A+), Intro Econometrics(A+), Intro Linear Algebra(A+), Multivariable Cal(A), Intro Analysis(A-), Intro Diffeq(A+), Applicable Algebra(A), Linear Algebra(A-), Stochastic Processes(B+), Intermed Micro(A), Intermed Macro(A), Financial Econ(A), International Monetary Theory & Policy(A), Game Theory(A), Intertemporal Econ(A) Concentration Applying to: Strategy. Especially interested in corporate strategy of multi-business/multi-national firms Number of programs planned to apply to: Undecided. Dream Schools: Undecided. Other Questions: 1) Will it be better for me to apply to dream schools only and reapply next year after upgrading my profile? I do want to pursue my academic interest but I am working full time so I can wait for a year in a worst case scenario. Or should I include some safety schools (although I understand that there is no real 'safety' schools) or masters? 2) Could you provide guidance on contacting faculties? Thanks everyone!
  10. Thanks, Tutonic! I've never been to Europe so never thought of the opportunities standing out there. Thanks to your guide, I searched for the schools and was very happy that they provide much more academic focused programs than the US masters do! (and much cheaper thanks god). Thanks again and I will keep on researching =)
  11. Hi all, I'm an Asian who finished my undergrad in 2013 and have been working in Asian financial industry till now. Recently, I decided to pursue further study in Econ Ph.D, but considering that I do not have any research experience and as I lost all connection with my undergrad professors, I chose to pursue masters first to gain some research opportunity and to get better LORs, if possible. My biggest concern for now is getting LORs, cause as I said, I haven't been in touch with any of the professors after graduating, and I didn't have any meaningful connection with profs even back then. I understand that this is the factor out of my control, so could you please evaluate my possibility in getting to masters with my below profile? Recommendation for realistic target schools will also be much appreciated! (I want to apply for schools with focus on academics/research, such as Duke, Tufts etc) Type of Undergrad: BA in Economics & Mathematics, Ivy League school Undergrad GPA: 3.99/4.3 cumulative Type of Grad: N/A Grad GPA: N/A GRE: Still Preparing Math Courses: Intro Stats & Probability(A+), Intro Econometrics(A+), Intro Linear Algebra(A+), Multivariable Cal(A), Intro Analysis(A-), Intro Diffeq(A+), Applicable Algebra(A), Linear Algebra(A-), Stochastic Processes(B+) Econ Courses(undergrad): Intermed Micro(A), Intermed Macro(A), Financial Econ(A), International Monetary Theory & Policy(A), Game Theory(A), Intertemporal Econ(A) Other Courses: Intro to Java(A), Financial Accounting(A) Letters of Recommendation: One from my company's director, who has been working with me closely for almost two years and who knows me well. For the other two, I think I should just reach out to the undergrad professors from the courses that I received okay grades. Research Experience: N/A Teaching Experience: Teaching assistant for calculus I, tutored students from lower income background during highschool Research Interests: Behavioral Econ(but flexible and wish to find further interest during my masters) SOP: Still considering, but I will try to explain how my 4 years of working experience trained me to become better suited person to pursue Ph.D and why I suddenly wanted to pursue career in academia. I am still wondering how deep the SOP for the masters should be. Do I have to explicitly mention the research interest and my long term goal as well? Other: Concerns: Thank you for your precious time to read the thread and I would appreciate any comments & ideas! Thanks!
