  1. Hi all, I hope to pursue a PHD in finance but I'm not sure that I meet the necessary math background. While I am receiving a quantitative bachelor's degree, I only have four semesters of calculus, linear algebra, and 2 statistics. I think that I might be able to take some additional hard math coursework before I apply. What classes would you say are valued the highest among admissions? Thanks so much for the advice
  2. Hi, I recently became very interested in pursuing a PHD in finance, specifically in empirical asset pricing. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could provide some advice into the types of programs I should consider applying to. Undegrad: 3.7/ 4 BA Physics and Honors in Economics from top US school Research Experience: 1. Honors thesis in financial economics 2. Strong undergad research in empirical asset pricing Work Experience: 1. Credit research 2. Teaching assistant for finance MBA classes 3. Think tank- financial markets (several papers published in popular news sources) I have not taken the GRE/GMAT yet. I have also not taken real analysis or any "pure math" classes with proofs. I do have a very strong quantitative background through physics and statistics courses. Because I'm late on deciding to pursue a PHD, I will work for a year before submitting my applications. 1. What kind of schools should I consider applying to? 2. What can I do to better prepare in the one year before applying to schools? 3. Is it advisable to defer applying to a PHD program and doing a masters instead? Thanks so much
