  1. Yes. Congratulations 🎊. Which school?
  2. Yes. Georgia Tech. Which school?
  3. Congratulations 🎊. Could you please tell me which area of study?
  4. The point is almost all applicants have great packages. Working on a PhD is a job. There is passion involved but in the end it is a job and there are so many who can do it. It becomes very difficult to pick a candidate from the application pool. This is where the recommendation comes in. I'm not passing a judgement of whether it's good or not. However there is a problem of access. To have access to a good research professor one has to have studied in a good institute. That means so many applicants have a serious disadvantage in getting such access. As far as I have seen grades and test scores really don't matter in research. A person with a good test score might cruise through coursework. However when it comes to research, it's a whole new ball game. Great academics does help, but without creativity, independent thinking and perseverance, getting through a PhD program is difficult. Not impossible but difficult.
  5. From what I saw, all that mattered was recommendations. Not the official ones but the phone calls and personal mails. To those who made it without that a big salute.
  6. The Emory spring break is from 6th to 10th March. I doubt they will work in this period. Probably offers will be sent out next week.
  7. PM me. I'll try to help you out.
  8. Join ISB. Make sure you build good contacts with the professors. Start applying early whenever you do.
  9. Generally how long does it take for waitlists to move?
  10. The sad truth is that most big colleges already have their candidates. There is a lot of idiosyncrasies in the process. We try to hold on to objective measures like GPA and test scores to feel good about our chances. The fact is that the idiosyncrasies is the deciding factor. Look at gradcafe. There are so many rejects for people with near perfect GPAs and test scores. In my opinion your application must catch the eye of a professor who will then be your champion. This is not to discourage anyone. I too am in the same boat as you all are. All I am saying is that the factors are mostly beyond our control and all we can do is sweat 😅
  11. If I got a dollar for every time I hit the refresh button I would be a billionaire 😂
  12. I understand what you are saying but let me put another spin to this tale. The class you would enter will be very heterogeneous unlike say an MBA class. Many would be younger than you and quite a few would have done these things in their undergrad. This would be stressful especially when you need a minimum GPA to stay in the program. I can tell you that preparation beforehand will definitely not hurt you. In fact it would be very good if one could brush up math and microeconomics before entering class so as to avoid stress later.
  13. Thought there will be movement this week. Nothing happening so far 😐
  14. Is there a chance that UT Austin might pick someone from the waitlist for accounting? Any precedents, insights?
