  1. Still crickets for HBS communication?
  2. Not at all. I emailed them asking if it was possible for them to let me know if I remained a candidate. You and I are in the same boat....drifting at sea with no means of navigation hahaha. Good luck!
  3. I also applied to PSU mgmt. Four days ago rec'd an email from PSU PhD program: Email from PhD program from today, 2/17: "Thank you for your interest in the PhD Programs. Applications are with the departments at this time and are currently being reviewed. Decisions are made in March and April and will be communicated by mail and/or email as soon as they are available. No further information is available at this time." So we just have to keep waiting.
  4. Thanks! Good luck to you as well. Did you get into your top choice yet? I'm still waiting to hear from two programs to decide - if I do not get in I will be happy with my current offer.
  5. Marketing made offers already? Do you know about Management? I applied to Mgmt but have not heard anything yet. Thanks!
  6. I have not heard anything from any area. Hmmm, I have a feeling this is the week of HBS finally communicating with applicants
  7. Do you know if Management did interviews yet? I've heard no word since email saying my "app has been submitted." Thanks
  8. I know that Strategy & Entrepreneurship started interviews late January and are offering 2 or 3. Don't know about OB but I will ask around and let you know what I find, if anything. Good luck! Have you been to Chapel Hill yet to visit the school/city? I'm also considering UNC - what is your take on the business school's reputation in general within academia? Thanks a lot.
  9. I know! Thought the same this yesterday. It's time to give us pleasure or pain.
  10. The waiting definitely is torturous. It's pretty much radio silence from HBS for most areas - they are watching us all on here and GC and laughing in the office. I'm sure of it!
  11. Seriously will be the longest February of my life as well. I would have thought that by now we would have heard something on this site of GC.
  12. Oh ok, sounds good. For us, I hope no news is good news. Maybe the snow has slowed down the process? I've heard that final decisions from HBS will be emailed on March 1st. Not sure how true, but if so then we need to get interviews soon. Good luck!
  13. Also no communication from HBS since submitting app.
  14. Notification Type: Rejection Institution Name: Wharton Concentration: Management Date of Notification: 01-27-2017 Type of Notification: Email to check portal with subject: "Decision Available - Wharton Doctoral Programs" Notification Type: Rejection Institution Name: MIT Sloan Concentration: TIES Date of Notification: 02-17-2017 Type of Notification: Email to check portal
  15. Specifically, any else applied to the Management concentration? Since applying I have heard nothing. I'm not sure if they have even interviewed yet. As of today, there is nothing of note is on The Grad Cafe. Thanks a lot.
  16. I do not have much stats/historical values on wait lists, but I will offer some thoughts. I've heard that being on a wait list from a top school is a fantastic position to be in as a lot of the top applicants also apply to other top schools (the ones you mentioned of course; plus Stanford, Sloan, INSEAD, etc.). In fact, the yield is not as high as one would think..... in 2015 HBS' doctoral program yield was *just* 57% (Statistics - About Us - Harvard Business School). All in all, wait list at a top school could be as good as [if not better than] wait list as a lower tier school. The question is, does anyone get off of the wait list at top schools? Do they even want to admit their non-top choices? Sometimes programs just want to get their top candidates in hopes that next year's class will be bigger (since funds were saved). Who knows!
  17. PobleNou, could you please suggest some resources to help me learn R through self-study? I have not used a statistical package before and any help is appreciated. Thanks a lot.
  18. Finninja, I agree; those are my goals exactly - - achieve solid GPA & minimize stress. This way classes/grades do not get in the way of research. I do not want to spend the first 2 years worried about classes while trying to keep up with remedial work. So since I have a few months before the program begins, might as well invest time in learning/refreshing important topics (especially those important for the 1st year).
  19. Yes, please suggest a few books and whatever else you think (math, analysis, anything) would be helpful for pre-PhD students. Thanks a lot!
  20. Same here...more than mid thirties though, I will be 39 when I begin classes. As a result, I also want to get a jump on things. Thansk PobleNou, I was very lucky to get an early admit last week. Now the big pressure is off. Well, the pressure of at least knowing I will be in a program in the fall. As a "mature" candidate I heard that ageism is an issue for b-school doctoral programs in the U.S.
  21. You're awesome. Thanx. This makes complete sense.
  22. Hi Everyone, in the fall I will be starting a PhD in Management and want to get a jump start with preparing for classes. What do you suggest I self-study before orientation? Stata? R? Calculus? Linear Algebra? Stats? I welcome as much detail as you are willing to provide. I do not have a strong math background, so hence my question about prep. My goal is to make the first year of classes as painless as possible so I can have more time/energy to devote to research. Thanks to all!
