Hello Is it possible to change from F1 to directly H1b Visa ? if the applicant is middle of his PhD program and havent finished his coursework yet. Regards

LoL Got 107 with 0 days preparations! After finishing two semester final one day before the test I tried to logon to the TOEFL website day before and gave up trying to give the practice test due to the crappy toefl website and their password errors Anyway cant believe they gave me 24 in speaking!! Uggh that what I thought I would score the most in Anyway Reading 27 Listening 29 Speaking 24 Writing 27 Total 107 Good Luck guys! I know you guys will score better :) Mystic

I want to know what you think is the difference between Software Engineering degree and Computer Science in term of job prospects and academia prospects. Some Universities provide MS & PhD in Software Engineering also If I want to stay in the academia and do PhD later on Computer Science can I switch from my Software Engineering MS to Computer Science PhD program ? Hi Finally after having waited 50 days for my security clearance the embassy called me and I got visa stamping for 34 months! :( Actually it is 2 months less than what is mentioned in my I-20 which is 3 years(36 months). I was kicking myself of not having my passport renewed for the next 5 years. So I got visa 7 more months after my passport expiary date. I hear they give Visa for 3 years or 5 years depending upon the duration written on I-20. Anyway got my ticket for 14th morning and leaving. I want to thank everyone in this forum for advices and specially to aesthetic_ascetic for helping me all this time :D Mystic

This is really good news! You are going to get visa within 3 weeks :) Your security clearance was fast :) Almost 6 weeks have passed since my interview date and I have not had my security clearance yet

But in contrast after the interview the visa officer gave me the letter(conditionally approved) same as yours but gave me my passport back and said that you would be contacted after the security clearance via e-mail. After I got out I heard the same thing about an applicant who also got his passport back and had to wait till he was asked to present his passport again for visa stamping. Dunno if visa interview technique are different in pakistan and bangladesh .

Sorry for the very late reply I was out of my place for couple of days and couldnt reply I am from Bangladesh and going to Western Washington University for MS My first name is common like "aesthetic_ascetic" said and I had visited a lot of countries in past and was in pakistan,india last year I have never visited USA and this was my first time, so to tell you the truth I never knew about this security clearance thing :( already 26 days have passed and I have not heard anything from them via e-mail(as they mentioned)

HI I went got visa interview on 19th of June and the visa officer gave me conditionally acceptance letter Said that I needed security clearance for visa He said that the time needed for such clearance is from 1 week to 1 month My classes start from 20th August and I was hoping to be at USA by 1st of August. I have heard sometimes it takes more time (one and half month to two months) for security clearance Has any of you fallen into same kind of situations ? Mystic

Hi there I would like to know what is the possibility of changing field of specialization from MS to PhD. I am going for Graphics now but my real intention is Bioinformatics which I hope to do once I am finished with my MS. Hello there I read somewhere that one need to sign the I-20 before the VISA officer ? Is this correct ? I have my visa date booked 19th this month. Should I sign the I-20 before going for visa interview and put my name and date(any day) before the interview ? Please help!

Some University have Thesis option for MS Requires a couple of thesis presentation and also project defense *may require paper publication Some University have project option, The credit are given under research experience courses *may require paper publication Which one is best for MS ? My area is Computer Science. Is project option anyway considered course-based MS only ?
