hi Everybody, i got my toefl score today. It is 240 (my range was between 187 and 247). For essay i got 5.0. i) Listening - 24 ii) Structure/writing - 26 iii) Reading - 22 Can anyone tell me whether it is a bad score or an average score. I am sure it is not a good score. Y I Got 240??? It is because of my attitude. From the beginning my target was between 240 and 250 and that really reflected on my score. I think this is a mistake many of us doing it. Maximum is 300 then why we are limiting below that. Its really a blunder to do that. So dear friends always aim for the maximum so that u can atleast land 1 step b4 the target or on the target. hi ERIN and Wasleys thanks for the reply. I came to know from my english teacher that the sentence " I gave my toefl test....." is wrong because of gave. It should be either took or wrote. vijayaprashanth

One was on the negative side(too much) and another on the positive side(too much). Its better to be in the middle to get pleasant words. hope u got it. the story was really funny and will make us to think and act in different situations. good one. vijayaprashanth

hi reena i am from india. i expected a score around 260. anyway i will wait for my actual score. if i get 240 and above it will be good. but i dont know where to see the criteria for different colleges and universities. can u give me some suggestions where to get the criteria. vijayaprashanth

yeah. i took my toefl on 16th november 2004. my score range was 187 - 247. I followed cliffsnotes and it was very helpful. apart from cliffsnotes i practiced TestMagic test structures and downloaded real toefl questions from dethi.net.( u can also download from this site) its very helpful. actually i expected my score around 260 but i didnt do well in reading comprehension. this doesnt mean bcos of cliffsnotes i got less marks. i think i didnt practice that much to score high marks and this might be the reason for my low grades. the more you practice the more you get. cliffsnotes will be the best guide for u to prepare for toefl. Take tests from TestMagic and other websites to improve ur efficiency. all the best for the efforts you are going to put for the toefl exam. vijayaprashanth

I have seen many of them saying " I gave my toefl on......." Is the structure correct to say "I gave my toefl......". I think its wrong to say I gave..can anyone reply to this query. It is correct to say "I took or I wrote" but its wrong to say " I gave". Does that mean we are giving our test..this is strange. vijayaprashanth

hi azad, i closed my eyes while listening to conversations and academic talks. this helped me to concentrate on the speech. i did well in academic talks. missed some in conversations because of some idioms and phrases. after listening to short conversations, confirm ur answer in ur mind b4 looking into the choices because 2 choices will be very close and you may get confused which one to select. actually i expected a score of around 260 but the range didnt confirm my expectation. i think i went wrong in reading comprehension even though the passages were easy. i wish you to get an outstanding score in toefl. all the best. vijayaprashanth

this is not the way ETS people calculate the score. i heard that ETS has a format to give scores for the number of questions that are correct. For example all 45 correct ---- score is 30 44 correct ---- score is 29 43 correct ---- score is 28 42 correct ---- score is 27 41 correct ---- score is 26 40 correct ---- score is 25 likewise it goes on. actually it is range they have fixed. if u get 14 or 15 questions correct ur score will be 9.
