    few problems here

The answer is 30% , I am confident of this answer. Let the initial investment be $100. There is a 15% increase in the first five years=100+15= $115 There is 30% increase in the next years of duration = (30/100 )* 115 + 115= $149.5 The increase must be calculated as (149.5-115/115 )* 100= 30% 30% is the correct answer.

    Formula

separate the 5 column numbers under their heading. I typed it in a tabular form but i guess the browser ignores spaces. Column 1 heading=x Column 2 heading=f Column 3 heading=(x-mean) column 4 heading=(x-mean)^2 column 5 heading=f(x-mean)^2 Add the numbers of the 5th column to get the number 32.

    Formula

    I did the "finding SD for freq distribution sum" using this formula and I found this one quite easy: SD=sqr root of(E [f(x-mean)^2]/N) create 3 additional columns for the sum like this: First calculate the mean. mean=0(2)+1(6)+2(3)+3(2)+4(4)/17= 34/17 = 2 x f (x-mean) (x-mean)^2 f(x-mean)^2 0 2 -2 4 8 1 6 -1 1 6 2 3 0 0 0 3 2 1 1 2 4 4 2 4 16 ---------- E[f(x-mean)^2]= 32 ----------- a)SD= sqr root of(E [f(x-mean)^2]/N)= sqr root of(32/17)=1.4 approximately b)Mode=x with highest frequency=1 c)median=2 d)range=biggest x - smallest x=4-0=4 This entire sum took me 2 minutes to do. I hope the above expln. will make u understand better.

    probability

I need to know the working procedure of this sum , these 2 sums are from the ets mathsreview pdf file. 1) Given P(AUB)=0.60 and P(A)=0.20 (a) Find P(B) given that events A and B are mutually exclusive. (b) Find P(B) given that events A and B are independent. 2). Lin and Mark each attempt independently to decode a message. If the probability that Lin will decode the message is 0.80, and the probability that Mark will decode the message is 0.70, find the probability that (a) both will decode the message (b) at least one of them will decode the message © neither of them will decode the message Can u help with the working procedure of these 2 sums, the answers are 1)(a)0.40 (b)0.50 2)(a)0.56 (b)0.94 ©0.06

I thought that GRE maths syllabus was only algebra, arith, geometry and probability. BUT my friend who recently wrote GRE exam said that they have INCREASED the syllabus and new sums on topics such as permutation and profit & loss are appearing. I have 2 questions 1) "What are the new maths topics that have been added to GRE quantitative??? and 2)"What good books or website tutorial should I follow for studying GRE quantitative section for getting a good score???" I hope to get a reply soon. Thanking you in advance. with regds, kts
