The answer is B : northern Africa. But I stumbled upon many sentences that have both the and without the when combining with direction words. For example: - The discovery of gold in northern California ... - In the southern United States ... - arid lands of Southern Texas ... - The no-fly zone is designed to protect Kurds in northern Iraq and Shies in the southern part of the country from Iraqi regime (from CNN) That makes me so confused!!! Do you have any idea?

  9. Hi all and Erin, You just corrected this sentence long time ago: Petrography concerns primarily with the detailed description and class fication of rocks where as petrology deals primarily with rock formation. You corrected: But what I am confused is why concerns ==> is concerned whereas deals =/=> is dealt I think the verb concern and deal here have the same meaning as well as grammar structure. Any ideas?
  10. I have a sentence: The red sea, [longly] famed for its pristine water, [is being threatened] by [oil] and sewage [spills]. The answer is A: long. But I think longly is OK because "longly" is adverb for adjective "famed". Am I right?
