  1. Well i would say that for your first question (regarding grades) I would be honest. You have to remember, your essays are supposed to reflect who you are and your feelings. So I would definitelyt explain why my grades were not so great and taht they do not reflect your true potential! For the second question, what draws you to the scholl you are applying? Is it teh community, the school's reputation, a program only they have to offer.... You need to look into the school web siteto get as much info as possible. If nothing appeals to you, why go there? Good luck
  2. Awesome! Same here.... this wait is unbarable! did you get a call already for an interview?
  3. This is looking good then. It will increase my chances!:tup:
  4. Just checking in and seeing if anyone applied there.
  5. Thanks guys!:tup: So I'll try to sum up my experience with the GMAT, but first a little bit of my background. I am a 22 year old financial analyst. I have been working for almost 3 years now at a big financial company. I have a bba in finance from Pace university. I was born in France and lived 12 years there and 10 years in the US. I completed my highschool studies and 2 years of college in france. So basically I have been brought up with many different international aspects. This whole adventure started when I applied for investment banking positions and got turned down for the same reason at all 3 firms: No MBA. This really pushed me to think whether I was ready to go back to school and earn an MBA. After talking with my finance teachers and some of my peers, the answer seemed obvious. So I went out and bought 4 GMAT books: Princeton review: Cracking teh GMAT The OG Kaplan 2005 GMAT 800 from Kaplan I started with Princeton as it really showed more the building blocks of the GMAT and showed some pretty good tricks. The OG was a great reference, but everything seemd alot easier, so I stopped after 2 days with the OG and decided to move on to Kaplan. This was more difficult and challenging and really helped me with more advanced concepts. The GMAT 800 is an AWESOME BOOK. I highly recommend this one. They really have tricky questions and they show some nifty shortcuts that helped me during my real GMAT. Then one day i stumbled upon this site. One word describes these forums Amazing! The interaction we have here and the constant posting of new exercises really helps to develop key basics for dfficult questions (such as probability and absolute values). I doubt I would have gotten where I am today if it weren't for this site and the awesome poeple that contribute to it. Alright on to the test. The day before the test I actually left from work early and did one last GMAT prep test. I think I was quite nervous as I only scored 640, but after reviewing what I had done wrong I saw they were silly mistakes. I think that doing a test on the last day helped me prove that I could do this and get a good score. It also helped me see if there were any types of exercises I had not worked enough on. After that I just relaxed, went for a run and hit the bed after watching familly guy. G DAY Well I took the day off as my test was at 1:30. I made sure I got enough sleep (8 hours surprisingly) and started the day off with a healthy breakfast. I clearly felt nervous as I had an upset stomach. I decided to go over some basic formulas and traps that i had written on seperate papers. I also came here and answered the newly posted problems and read Arjmen's post (great score by the way man:tup: ). I had a nice lunch and left for the center at noon. I got there at 12:45, signed in, wrote the text, took a deep breathe, and entered teh room. AWA Quite honestly I had spent maximum twenty minutes on studying this. The subjects I got were prety easy and I had a ton of personal experience which helped me choose a side and argument my way to victroy. LOL Hopefully I did as well as I think. After both essays, I went out and took my 5 min break. Had a sip of an energy drink and half of my energy bar. I realised that the 5 min break is not enforced! I came in about 1 min late and the computer had to be unlocked by the admin. MATH This is the part I love the most about the test I was very impatient to see how difficult the math questions were going to be seeing how GMAT prep really bumped up the difficulty. I started off with an easy fraction problem. But that quickly changed. On my 3rd question I had a standard deviation question! It took me a solid minute to solve it and I moved on. All in all I got 4 SD questions, 3 probability questions and 2 coordinate geometry problems. I had never encountered so many tough questions! LOL Also the rest of my questions seemed to be only Data Sufficencies, that tested exponents, absolute values and Radicals. Looking back at the questions I got, and the final score I achieved, I am a little disapointed. I usually scored 49-50 in practice exams. I can recall 2 questions I know I did wrong after clicking teh confirm button. I am sure that would have bumped me into the 700 range but oh well what is done is done. I took the 5 min break, finished my bar and drink, and talked with teh admin there about how many tried cheating on the test. he did tell me a good one about a guy who came in 3 times under 3 different names to take the GMAT! LOL. Now the worst part of the test (for me atleast) VERBAL Well everything started out good. I had 4 SCs in a row followed by 2 CR questions. The first one was starightforward, but the second one had a twist in it! Then I was slammed with a 75 line RC on women's rights. I have to admit that for the first I had not fully understood what the author was trying to say. So I decided to try my best to eliminate wrong answers, ticked, and moved on. The rest of the Sc and Crs were pretty much staright forward and were not too difficult. The RC passages were all long one was 83 lines and used quite an advanced vocabulary. I got 4 passages. One on jurisdiction, one on female rights, one on financial well beings of companies, and one on a scientific theory. I think I lost all my verbal points with the RCs. I had a tough time with them. The test was over. I decided to fill out the survey and when the cancel your score question came up , I let go of the mouse and thought back on my test for 2 min. Finally my hands moved and I clicked report score. 690 popped up and I was pretty happy and relieved. I got my unofficial score and went home. During my ride back home I was kicking myself for the 2 math questions I know I missed. Either way my journey with this test is over. What I think I did right Well I reviewed teh basic concepts in math first. That is very important to do difficult questions. Also being a math oriented person, I concentrated on getting a higher math score than on english. BUT DO NOT NEGLECT ENGLISH!!! This is a mistake that can kill your dreams of ever getting a great score. Also for math nothing better than comming here or doing the chalanges at gmatclub.com For SCs, make sure you read spidey's notes once. What I also did differently is that I actually recorded myself talking at work and would play it back at home. Believe it or not, this helped me see the horrible use of english I had. I try everyday to correct myself and talk better with correct tenses and clear references. My coworkers actually noticed a difference! I think that really helped me in SC. After doing this exercise for over a month, I did all the SC in the OG and got 92% of the questions right, so i think it worked. For CR, really split out the conclusion, premises and try to write assumptions. this really works! WHAT I THINK I DID WRONG I think I neglected too much the RC. I did not challenge myself enough and I think it showed during the test as I was getting hard passages. I made silly mistakes in math because I was rushing. SO DO NOT RUSH! This will help you get things right the first time around. Also don't forget to time yourself. I finished each section with only 30 seconds to spare each time. So time yourself on a regular basis. OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS For those who work 60 hours a week and almost every time on the weekends like me, I know you don't have a lot of time. try to devote at least 1 hour per day during the week and 3 hours on the weekend. Also these forums are great, so try and review stuff from work! All this studying should get you way up there and you will be satisfied with the score you get. Do not go underprepared. unfortunately i did that mistake and paid big time. I got 600 on my first try. I was disapointed. So be sure you are ready, to go in there and beat teh GMAT! THANKS I want to thank Erin, for creating this amazing website. But I can never forget all the people here that actually posted. I think that is what really makes this whole community so great. We post what we think or feal and others are always there to listen and correct if need be! I would also like to thank Arjmen, spidey, bullfighter, and many others for their amazing knowledge in math!! I think you guys realy help motivate poeple by showing them that math is nothing less than simplistic! You gusy rock! If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll definately stick around and update you guys on my apps. Thanks again to all of you and good luck!
  6. My long battle with the gMAT has finally come to an end. It seemed like this day would never come! I just got home from the test center and I am pretty happy. Sure I am upset that probably 2 more math questions would have bumped me into the 700 club, but over all I am satisfied with my score. I will write a full detail of my preperation and my experience tomorrow. Now I am off to party!!!![banana] [banana] [w00t] [bounce]
  7. Agreed OA should be B
  8. I would pick D. first off the relationship is our subject, so it has to be "remains". Also the correct idiom is to associate x with Y. So I would pick D since we are down to D or E.
  9. Another vote for C Both statements alone are insufficient, but taken together: X2=X1/(X1+1) [from 2] = X1/2 [from 1] So we can solve for X1
  10. Again agree with Arjmen. Here is another way of solving Since we have a 90 degree angle, we want the air of 3/4 of this circle. So area of teh whole circle is 16Pi 16Pi*3/4= 4*3Pi
  11. Agreed with Arjmen [(12*12)/2]/[(4*4)/2] ==> 8/72=1/9
  12. Only C fits here, the whole first part of the sentence modify deer population.
  13. Well there are 60 pairs of siblings So on the first choice you can choose 60/1000 siblings in the junior class And only 1/800 choice for the matching sibling. Therefore 60/1000*1/800=3/40000 Hope this helps
