  1. PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: Top-70 US News, BS, Double Major Math and Econ Undergrad GPA: 3.86 GRE: 168Q/162V/5.5AW Math Courses (A unless otherwise noted): Intro Stats (A-), Calc 1-3, Linear Algebra, Intro to Proofs (B+), ODE (A-), PDE (B+), Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Numerical Analysis, Math Modeling, Seminar Class in Math (A-), Math Logic Econ Courses (A unless otherwise noted): Intro Micro, Intro Macro, Intermediate Macro (A-), Intermediate Micro (A-), Mathematical Economics, Econometrics, International Trade Theory, Game Theory, Development (A-), Labor Economics, Financial Econ, Thesis Other Courses: Some random comp sci courses Letters of Recommendation: One from UG professor, one from well know Fed economist, one from newer Fed economist (all graduated from top econ/finance programs). UG Professor and newer Fed economist very strong, well known Fed economist probably not as strong. Research Experience: Some undergrad RA work, undergrad thesis, 2 years at Fed Board Teaching Experience: N/A Research Interests: Labor, Education, Macro SOP: Nothing extraordinary, but fine RESULTS: Acceptances: Boston University ($$$), Wharton (Finance) ($$$$) Waitlists: Cornell (declined spot on waitlist) Rejections: Basically every other top ~20 econ and top ~10 finance. Pending: None Attending: Boston University Comments: My research experience was more finance related, so I think that's why I got into Wharton for Finance without better econ results. My actual research interests are in labor/education, so while Wharton was a hard offer to turn down, I couldn't see myself spending 5 years doing finance research. If I could do it again, I probably would have been more clear about my research interests with letter writers, rather than convincing myself I'd be happy in a finance program. Nonetheless, very happy with BU, though the Wharton stipend would have been nice...
  2. Quick q: I’ve only attended virtual visit days, but have an in-person one coming up. What is the typical dress code for in person visits? Business casual? A level below that?
  3. What's the deal with Duke? I haven't heard anything yet... praying for WL at this point
  4. I also just received an offer.
  5. Anyone else not heard from Cornell?
  6. 3 Duke acceptances on GC. IR at this point?
  7. Can anyone confirm Duke rejection on GC?
  8. Yes, that was me. Logged into portal and decision was uploaded.
  9. Any idea how long the first round lasts? Deciding if I should be worried that I haven't heard anything yet.
  10. Got the same email as you, my stats are a little lower than yours: GRE 168Q/162V/5.5AW, 3.86 UG GPA as a Math/Econ double major plus two years at the Fed. I hope I wasn't rejected based on a cutoff...
  11. My application status says 'Completed'. Does yours say 'Pending'? Sorry to be paranoid hahah
  12. So I took the GRE today and finally got a 168 on the Quant section. I scored a 162 (90%ile) on the Verbal section, which, while okay, isn't as strong as the 165 (96%ile) that I scored previously. Would it be detrimental to report both scores? Or should I stick to just the 168Q 162V? And yes I know I can likely only apply the 168 to schools with later deadlines.
  13. Thanks for the replies @EconPadawanBR and @tutonic. I wouldn't call my three 167s problematic, though I would call it disappointing. I guess I'm fortunate that I only have to submit my score from one sitting. I've taken 5 or so official practice tests from ETS (including one paid) and have never scored below a 169 on the quantitative section; I never considered myself a nervous test-taker, but here we are.
  14. Hi all, I recently heard secondhand that some schools have increased their GRE Quant Score thresholds to a 168 (consistent with 167 falling below the 90th percentile). Can anyone confirm if this is the case? I've taken the GRE 3 times, and every time have scored a 167... My verbal and AWA scores are strong enough (165 and 5, respectively). Will my application be thrown out at top schools before even being considered due to the low Q score? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
  15. Whoops, I meant applying in fall 2021, so for entry fall 2022. That gives me a lot of time to retake the GRE and take additional classes if they’d be beneficial.
  16. Thanks @Zubrus for the response! Do you think the Quantitative GRE score sends a negative signal? How much marginal benefit would I get from a higher Q score, and what if that higher score came with a lower V score?
  17. PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: BS Math and Economics at USNews Top-70 Private undergrad and Econ Department Cumulative GPA: 3.87 out of 4.0 GRE: 167 Q/164 V/5.0 AWA Math Courses: Calculus 1-3 (AP, A, A), Linear Algebra (A), Intro to Proofs (B+), Real Analysis (A), Complex Analysis (A), ODE (A-), PDE (B+), Numerical Analysis (A), Math Modeling (A), Math Logic (A), Upper-level Elective (A-), Intro Stats (A) Econ Courses: Intro Micro/Macro (A, A), Intermediate Micro/Macro (mathematical track) (A-, A-), Mathematical Economics (A), Econometrics (A), International Economic Theory (A), Game Theory (A), Econ Development (A-), Financial Economics (A), Upper-level Elective (A), Thesis (A) Letters of Recommendation: 1) Undergraduate Thesis Advisor, top-5 Econ, should be strong 2) Economist I RA'ed for at FRB, top-5 Econ, strongest of the 3, potential co-authorship (in progress) 3) Another Economist I RA'ed for at FRB, top 15-ish(?) non-US Econ PhD, should also be strong Research Experience: UG Thesis, 2 years at FRB Teaching Experience: None Work Experience: Worked for a year doing software development type stuff and now at the FRB Programming skills: R, Matlab, Stata, Python Questions: I'd preferably like to apply widely in the 5-30 range, targeting Cornell/Duke. Does this seem reasonable given my current profile? One area of improvement is my GRE Q score, but from browsing this forum a 167 might be sufficient/not a cause for concern. I didn't study very much, so I think that a 168+ is very reasonable. Additionally, would grad-level Econ courses (specifically Econometrics)/additional math be beneficial?
