Universities expect you to give a reason if something is bad in your application file. You can make up for it if you can show something else that would offset a not so good record.. this includes work experience, internships about universities.. you can aim for top 75-100

Hi , There is no one single indicator that you can rely upon. It depends on which field you want to work in. A not so famous university might be really good at something that a famous univ. is not. The best way according to me is to mail students in your program and ask them, if this is possible.

hi don't be disheartened as yet! Funding mainly depends on whether the kind of work you can do matches the Professor's requirement. so it entirely depends on your technical knowledge. Besides even if you don't get funded the first semester you can always try to get in to a univ. and try doing well there and then see if things work out

Hi Mystic, As Peiann pointed out bioinformatics is a multi-disciplinary field but any program has its own set of course requirements which can be waived if your work or related experience. If you can scout for a related project or an internship or attend related workshops where you can meet people workin in the field that would be great

Hi Suresh the higher the better.. you should definitely shoot for 800 in quants and 5.5/6 in analytical and anything above 650 in verbal is a bonus

Hello Everyone! A Special Thanks to Manasi :)! HI ERIN, I have a few suggestions to make... Suggestion:1 I Suggest we take care to address the psychological stress everyone undergoes.For not everyone ends up where they dreamt to be and not everyone stays at TM after this short phase, of preparing oneself for one's career, ends. I am of the firm belief that though it might seem prudent to assume that everyone is equally endowed..not everyone are star performers coz they have'nt had sufficient inspiration and support during their stint at school, for a variety of reasons.So it is imperative that we have a mechanism to ensure that everyone feels good about themselves before they start to tackle questions that pertain to career and life! Suggestion:2 ROLE OF TM Beyond education! After all education is for life, so we need something that's gonna leave a permanent imprint on us, something that's gonna help us stay positive and focussed throughout our life.So maybe we could expand our discussion to include 1]Career, 2]Stress etc,...This would enable us to build strong bonds of friendship, friendhip reared in cyberspace, which sprouts when we start thinking about Graduate/Undergraduate studies[This is what get's us in and in the end out of TM] and continues BEYOND our college LIFE. This I believe would be in keeping with the real aim of education, which is character building. What's your opinion on this. TM'ians?

It is in fact true that gender bias exists in our society in India.. :rolleyes: and in many parts of the world.for example in Japan women are considered secondary to men in any organisation..there isn't a single women in the top/middle mangament in any organisation.. In India I feel There are other deficiencies in basic facilities available to women, varying from encouragement to cultivate one's natural talents to fair participation in social functions/educational activities/workplace!!! I fully understand your sentiments and I am not writing this to cheer you to get along with things as they are! We must change the order of things.. YOU ARE ENTITLED TO THE SAME RIGHTS THAT A MALE ENJOYS.. Yeah! it might sound absurd..but there is definitely a way out! First,Let me tell you a few things honestly! 1]I am in many ways similar to you as a person! My brain starts reeling if I feel insulted and I can't stand people who contrive behind my back! To be frank I find myself in a worser situation coz I feel everyone around me are hypocrites.I rarely move with my classmates and all that stuff.. And I was just impossible for me to look at someone and say Hi..be it my next door neighbour..I felt some kinda injustice.. 2]A recourse to religion/meditation is a really wise decision..I am glad you did that it offers a proven way of relaxing yourself..let me tell you something.. Scientists studying the behaviour of Drug addicts have found out that the very sight of anything remotely associated with Drugs..causes an irrestible temptation..so they advise great restraint in how the addicts live and what they see.. In your case you must exercise similar caution in what you see with your mind's eye! otherwise things are going to spiral out of control..Meditation according to me is one of the best ways to regulate and channelise your thoughts.. I would also suggest you listen to soothing music..say Veena or any melodious tune..In fact it would be great if you do it before you sit for meditation and sit in a closed room..with some flowers around or with a few incense sticks burning next you.. And know this, if what you describe is true, that you are being subjected to injustice because of your gender... WE must deal with it seriously.. "How can anything be wrong with you if ppl around you are the real problem" SO I FEEL MEDITATION WILL NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM IN ITS ENTIRETY.. but how do we solve the problem.. a]Often pointing out to the offender that the nature of his act is in violation of basic rights in a stern manner can have an effect! b]In a place where you are dominated by members of the opposite sex, it is safe to have a channel open to communicate members of the upper echelon/higher authorities coz that can seriously discourage the offenders for they'll know they'll land in trouble if they mess with you..
