  1. You may want to take the GRE subject based test, if you can crack it then it will give you an additional edge over the other students ... it seems that most of the grad schools give higher priority on subject based tests. Your GPA is good enough, dont worry about that. In the mean time you may try establishing good communication with some of the proffs under whom you have taken some courses and who knows you more than the other ... target 4 to 5 proffs and then select finally from them.. usually the proffs are very considerate and helpful as they have undergone the same process for themselves as well .... Finally try securing a position at your present school.. just as a back up. Work on your SOP and try getting some help from your seniors, friends or even proffs for reviewing it .. SOPs matter a lot for the grad schools ... if you have presented some papers or posters try mentioning them in your resume ... give as much info about yourself (specially academic) as possible in your resume ... I hope this helps .... All The Best
  2. Hi Brown, CONGRATS on your admits and funding from UMCP and NCSU    What I know abt the funding of UMCP is, your 1/2 TA will cover upto 6 credits/sem and the money that you'll be getting is sufficient if you share your apartment with some one .... You Health insurance will be covered in full by the Univs ... and there will be a mandatory course regsitration fee of $250 for upto 8 credits and $ 460 for more than 8 credits per sem, which you have to pay by your self. You can get some more info regarding the funding at the UMCP EE website ... look at graduant students menu and click on Grad Handbook .... This link contains a lot of info ... Best markiV
  3. CONGRATS Brown !!!!!   Are you joining UMCP then? If you do... get into the YAHOO group of UMCP fall 2005. I hope to see you there .....
  4. Firstly CONGRATULATIONS ... for the great admits .... All of them are great schools .... I have seen both Lehigh and Bolder... have no idea abt NCSU ... What I can say about those two is, CU Bolder is much larger and active in research than Lehigh, both of them have decent location, but I would prefer Bolder more as it is in Colorado and at the foothill of the Rockys, Bolder is nice play to stay ... but a little expensive, where as lehigh wont be too expensive. Dept wise Bolder has a wide variety of research going on with a high number of students and faculties ..... Lehigh is not that big,, but the campus is really nice and the environment is good as well... a little far from Philadelphia .... but the Lehigh valley is wonderful ...... did you get funding from any of these two? My prev advisor and one of my friend is from Bolder, what I heard from them, is they have a superb signal processing grp and a close tie with NOAA. The funding is little competetive over there .... regarding funding at lehigh.. I have no idea .... what I heard from one of the proffs is ... the dept is running low on funds at present ..... Hope this helps
