  1. Hey Congrats buddy... With 8 years of experience I dont think your GMAT would hold you down you down. Best of Luck
  2. No Probs buddy.. I will be more than happy to help ! Writing is what i am doing these days (lots of it).:( ....
  3. Checked testmagic after a long time. Thanks to the App Process !! Thanks for your advice Mckakrain. After much thought and research I have decided to apply to US schools as well. Yeah 2 yr programs. I am applying to Round 2 and top B Schools in US. So the order in which I chose my schools is this : 2yr program (US) ----> 1yr-1.5yr program (Europe) ---> 1yr Program (India) And believe is the order in which one should prioritize in terms or ROI or better prospects etc. I say this not only for better salary and achievements. But also that programs in US are really good. You get a good network, good curriculum, a length of a program which allows u sufficient time to have the change in your career sink in and transform you into a professional of a different level. :grad: Now if some of you are thinking i dont have money.I guess the best news is you get full loans for your education. If you can take that risk you have this option right in front of you. ISB and IIMA are a little down in my list now as I will have to look for a job in India and from what I hear and know they are not career changing or should I say do not have that impact on your career as you would have from a US school or european school. However if I dont get admits from any of top schools in US they might become my best bet. :hmm: Also I might not apply to IMD and might look for LBS. IMD look for more experience people and with just about 100 people I dont think my chances are that bright. LBS seems a better fit. Any suggestions for LBS ? As for Essays Karma my thoughts are as such: - Take some time to jot down the points on paper - Write as much as possible - Organize properly (having a template at hand is good) - Leave some time for spell check and grammatical mistakes. - Make it objective i.e. rather than simply stating your thoughts in several para's put them in points. Like I support the xxx for yyyy . First......Second...third...Finally.... or I suport xxxx for yyy , also ....., moreover....., furthermore....., finally. Thats all I can think of now.. But I was confident I would get atleast a 5.5. So I am happy. Let me know if you need more suggestions etc... and any advice for me. Thanks and best of luck, Sumeet
  4. Yeah and the image for all mulitples of 9 keeps on changing..everytime u click try again..therfore little difficult to catch at first In simple terms the equation is : 10a+b - (a+b) = 9a therefore always multiples of 9
  5. http://trunks.secondfoundation.org/files/psychic.swf Click on the link above and see for yourself...what number propoerties can do... You can solve the puzzle.....its easy...but application of fundas is good..
  6. Got my Official Score Report today. Scored 5.5 on AWA. That makes the total package to GMAT 710 (Q49, 91 %ile, V36, 84%ile) AWA: 5.5 (88%ile) hmm Important ingredients for AWA: Number of passages, relevant points, content, editing.
  7. Ok I would like to give back what I got from TM. Its a long post and I have put in sections for the benefit of people who would not be interested in other sections. Test Experience: Scheduled for 8AM slot I woke up at 6:30 and was ready by 7:00 since it is required to report by 7:30 I left early. Made myself tea and had some cookies. It was because of nervousness or some other thing I did not sleep at all the previous night. And my back and eyes were hurting. It is always advisable to get some good sleep before the D Day, but I couldn't. Completed the fomalities, well in time and was on my comp. AWA: Was a breeze. I always liked the idea of AWA appearing first, because it helps you to get going. You brain starts working and you are in the middle of the battle. The topics were kind of cool. And I managed my time well. I guess I wrote solid 4-5 points in "Analysis of an argument" and must have written about 8-10 paragraphs. Also had a few quotes and examples thrown in. Analysis of Issue was also almost the same experience. Managed to write about 8-10 paragraphs and and about 3 minutes each to correct any spelling and grammatical mistakes. Quant: DO NOT TAKE IT LIGHTLY. Quant questions are definetly getting smarter and trickier.I would say GmatPrep level and tougher than Powerprep. I was stuck on a simple ratio and proportion question for 10 minutes. And another std deviation, averages question for good 5 minutes. But still I was able to finish quant section with 5 minutes to spare. DS questions were tough but manageable. Verbal: The pattern as far as I remember was this: 4 SC, 1 CR, 6-8 RC1, 9-12 RC (Yes back to back :( ) , 13 CR....and so on....Got another RC around question 24, Got 2 bold face questions. And last RC was around 34th question. The first 4 SC were Ok. I could easily spot the problems with the the questions. However because I got back to back RC's I had spent good 30 minutes on my first 13 questions. So i rushed with the remaining questions. And it is here that I might have made the most mistakes. As i was going really fast. By the end I slowed down but I guess damage was already done. I might have done well in RC (because of a better stratedgy than before) and CR as this was a section in which I was comfortable. So SC seems to have done the maximum damage. I was able to complete this section just in time. After survey etc. The score of 710 popped. There was a momentary disappointment but then it was mostly the 'Aha!!' effect. Its over. !! and above 700. Stratedgies and Plan: 1) RC Stratedgy: Myth: Nothing can be done about RC. Just practise! Fact: If one stratedgy does not work, try another. It worked for me. Initially I was in the habit of writing down or making notes for the passage. This time around I simpy read the passage 1-2 times for easy -medium difficulty and 2-3 times for hard. 2) Goals: Always aim high. Last time around my goal was to cross 700. And if I did get 700 (e.g. in Powerprep) I would be satisfied. that was a major flaw. Satisfaction brough complacency in me. Which I guess affected my preparation. This time around I set 3 goals: 1) Overall 750 2) 50 in Quant 3) more than 80%ile in Verbal. If I was not getting around 750 I would get disturbed and would really work to look for errors. kaplan full length tests are a very good demotivator. You fill like hitting your self after the tests. But actually that helps in seeing why so many were wrong. I would suggest giving these exams, but not near you dates. As they can prove detrimental to your confidence. Which is very very important. 3) Practise: Full length tests with AWA and all. Stamina is very important. Because of my eyes which were hurting and ofcourse all the exceitment, I really really wanted to finish the verbal. And thats when practise helps and concentration matters the most. 4) Material: Myth: Try to solve as many questions as you can. Reality: Try to solve quality questions, quantity doesn't matter, if quality is not there. Because if you have 200 Sc questions in OG then in reality you have 1000 because not only you have 1 correct option, you also have the other 4 which are incorrect. This time around I looked at all the questions, all the choices of those questions which I got wrong first time around (record of all these questions was with me in my excel sheet). Nothing against 1000SC and 1000Cr material. But wrong OA's really do not good. So I just did a few tests from 1000CR material. But thats just me and my thoughts. Choose your own stratedgy. One more point. I lately dropped my participation in TM because there was lot of material which was taken from some shady sites, which dont even have OA's. In my opinion it wont do any good. Infact just looking at OG11th edition diagnostic test SC questions you can see a huge difference in the quality of questions. For SC search on 800Bob's posts. For DS search for responses from Arjmen, Dimas and Chix..One good practise would be to search for DS questions from Nuthan. 1) OG 10th edition. 2) OG 11th edition. (If you can get this, I would suggest please do). It is more structured than 10th edition. Explanations are presented well. There is categorization of questions. For Example if you are weak in inference kind of questions, the question says so, you can look up only the inference kind of questions etc.) 3) Kaplan Gmat Verbal Workbook. I would recomment this book to everyone. I didnt use it later in my prep. But it was good to have in my initial prep. Moreover the last pages (293-340) are a must. 4) Princeton Review. Used this just as a reference. 5) Several tests from scoretop. Typically would give 1 full length tests every other day. 6) Softwares: -Powerprep -GmatPrep -Kaplan 2003 CD (I had an old version and since kaplan is required for practise, it was good enough for me). -For monitoring and planning I had an excel sheet to chalk out my accuracy and plan. At any point of time I had plan chalked out for full 1 month ahead. Basically separated out data for qaunt, verbal and each sections. Percentage for accuracy etc. I will try to upload the excel sheet (Don't really know how to do that now). But this excel sheet was my first and last agenda on daily plan. -Links: 1) Check out Arjmen's post for links about Inequalities. 2) http://www.www.urch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33514&page=2&pp=30 3) http://regentsprep.org/regents/math/math-topic.cfm?TopicCode=permut 4) Was also a registered member with Scoretop. www.scoretop.com 5) Gammar links: http://webster.commnet.edu/grammar/index2.htm http://englishplus.com/grammar/00000031.htm Time Frame: 4 months back: Collected material from various sources. Started with Kaplan Quant for 2 reasons: 1) Kaplan quant is considered tough 2) To warm up for my prep. Quant is always easy to start with and warmup. 3 months back: 1) Was spending something like 2 hours a day and 4-5 hours a week. 2) Participating in TM 3) Giving full length tests. 4) Finished Kaplan Verbal Workbook. 5) Did not start OG. 2 months back till 1month back. 1) Gave PowerPrep1 without reffering to OG and got 700. I used this score to register for the tests. I had decided if I get 700 I would register for the tests. 2) Started OG and dug into explanations etc. 3) participated in TM etc. 4) used Kaplan CD sectional tests, Poweprep sectional tests etc. 5) Gmat Prep software. tests results: Kaplan 1: 600 Kaplan 2: 600 Kaplan 3:560 Kaplan 4: 610 Powerprep 1: 700 GmatPrep 1: 650 Powerprep2: 710 Gmat Prep2: 690 Actual GMAT: 650 (Q49,V28) 22nd August. 1 months back till date: 1) Re-did OG questions mistakes. 2) Started with 1000 CR and 1000 RC. But stopped using them after a few tests. I just didnt like answers with no explanations and answers themselves in question. I might be wrong here. 3) Changes my stratedgy for RC (metioned above). Initially I was getting around 50-60% result in RC. Now I was getting 80-85% because I was simply reading the RC. This stratedgy might work for you, might not work you. 4) I am not sure why, but my accuracy in SC was not good. Under untimed conditions I was scoring ok. But under timed condition my accuracy fell. :hmm: 5) Because of aggresive goals, in layman terms I wanted not more than 10 mistakes in Verbal and not more than 3 mistakes in Quant. If I did not meet my goal I would get distubured and would really fight it out why I hadnt got it right. I guess thats the difference. Always set higher goals. Test Results: Kaplan 1: 600 Kaplan 2: 610: Kaplan 3: 640 Kaplan 4: 640 PowerPrep1: 740 GmatPrep 1: 690 (Q47,V39) I got a 47 because I made 5 silly mistakes. Gmat Prep 2: 730 Last Day before the exam: - Had already maintained a document of important questions. Did all the questions - Did some revision of post from Arjmen - Did some revision of posts from Nuthan (DS questions) - Revised all kaplan sectional tests, full length tests, Powerprep, Gmat Prep, Sectional as well as full length. The ones which I got wrong, and why. - Practised permutation and combinations questions. This helped a lot for the exam. As this topic scared me the most in quant. - Had made notes in my own hadnwriting for verbal and quant. Revised those notes. Own notes in handwriting help. Help to memorize. I did not give Powerprep 2 this time as questions were mostly known to me. But Gmat Prep is a good software which is not only difficult in terms of quant questions but also gives 90% new questions. So you can repeat. With the above score I was expecting my scores atleast 730+. But I could manage only 710. Phew !! Let me know if you have doubts with my post above. Disclaimer: Because something worked for me does not mean it will work for you, or if it did not work for me, it wont work for you. Decide for yourself. All the Best
  8. I am done with GMAT today... Though nowhere near my expectations...I was expecting around 750... I had set 3 goals this time: 1) GMAT score 750 2) Quant score increase by 1 atleast so 50 atleast 3) 80 percentile in Verbal. I have managed to achieve only the third one. But I am OK...I crossed 700.. (Q49..90 percentile, V36..81 percentile) I gave GMAT 1 month back and only scored 650. (Q49,V28). Though I was consistently scoring around 700 in prep tests. This time around ..I was consistently scoring around 730-740, yet I could manage 710 only :( . Maybe something in stars... But I am not giving GMAT again. I will write in detail about my Prep later.... Thanks to all, who have participated in this forum and helped me a lot. Arjmen, Dimas , Karmaholic, 800Bob, ticktacktoe/piyusht, arangarajan and of course Erin.. and many others.... I must add here, that its been my wife's support all along which has carried me here. (Imagine a girl had to sacrifice her shopping excursions for almost 5 months, due to this exam. Its a crime in marraige world people, though was a blessing for me :D ). Background: Indian 28 years old, Male, Yesterday completed 5 years in my organization (one of the top indian software companies, also had a brief (1 year) stint at entrepreurship and was managing around 50 empoyees at a time, we also managed to get some international clients, but problems (relocation to US, probably inexperience, lack of able staff, scale, other risks..etc..) let my company into hiberbation. So any of you thinking of entrepreneuship, who know what do you, I can tell you what not to do. :D With this background I would be presenting my case to INSEAD and IMD (of course I dont have money for those..any suggestions?? I have heard around 75% get schols, financial aid etc.), Since I am a 1yr MBA fan I would also consider 1yr US colleges, ISB (though not really sure of ISB as a good option. Dont get shocked I have a different set of aspirations and constraints). Any aspirants for IIMA ? Please suggest and give your inputs....
  9. Good Jon ESeraph !!!! Congrats !
  10. When toss a coin, the probability that it heads up is not 0.5. What is the probability? 1) The probability of head up is twice the reverse. 2) Tossed 2 times, the probability that one is head up and another reverse is 4/9. I dont have the OA so lets discuss
  11. OA is D. See reasoning by Score800. Well explained..
  12. Yeah I was thinking the question on a different line altogeather... thanks adcambridge,
