  1. yep.....thats how it is.....you put the university code and then enter "00" for the department code. I did this for the following schools NCSU Drexel Univ. of Wisconsin Madison just confirm with the different universities before requesting ETS to send your scores.......
  2. Thats quite suprising. I have a couple of friends who have done BSc in Biotechnology and all graduate schools they contacted said this 10+2+4 stuff. And in India, we also follow the british honor system.:hmm:
  3. Hi! Students in their final year are eligible for admission. However, in your case you are doing a Bsc in SE, which I assume is a course of three years. To be eligible for MSc in US you should have completed 10+2+4 yrs of formal education. If your course is for four years then you can apply....
  4. There is no sure shot method of converting your percentage to GPA. The colleges in US have a fairly decent idea of the percentage system of different universities and grade you accordingly. Regrading your finances, you must show liquid funds to cover all expenses (tuition and living) for the first year of study during your visa interview. However, for the application process you must show availability of funds for the first year of study in a bank certificate or something like that. All z best for your apps.

    visa date dilemma

Hi! Good to know that you are from Bangalore, as I am from there too. Are you applying for Spring 2006?? or is it a year later?? Anyway, as you rightly said, all dates in Chennai are booked till mid February. So if you are looking at Spring 06 admission, then I suggest that you apply for an appointment in Delhi (currently the whole of December is available). There is no way that you attend a visa interview without deciding on a university. Once you have obtained a visa you must attend that college for at least one semester, and then you can apply for a college transfer. Ideally the safe visa dates are from mid november to mid december........... hope that answers everything.
  6. congrats.......and which field and specialization??????
  7. Man from which era are you?????????? I have posted the lastest 2006 rankings from US News. N E 1 can confirm that.......

  10. I guess you should be okay...........most uni's have deadlines in October so that should not be a problem........but check with the department you are appplying to. Also, you should fill up the application forms by mid september. You can always send them your GRE scores and other supporting documents later then. BTW, whats your profile and where are you applying?
  11. I guess you mean Purdue......unless its a new university. haha just kidding:)
  12. Hi! Great to meet you!!! You are actually the first person from Manufacturing that I have come across. I have done my Manufacturing Engineering from Bangalore University in BMS College. You have a great profile in my opinion. My profile: GRE : 1430 (V-650 Q-780 A-5.5) TOEFL : 270 ACADS : 64.5% (no CGPA here) other than that 1project on automation and thats it...........i really didn't do too much during my Engineering.........no journals or publications...........which I guess was a bad mistake...........this also seems to be my achille's heel here......... I have been working in a manuafcturing firm for the past three and a half years though..... regarding recos........one from my boss and one from my direct supervisor as this is the most recent information that I can provide...........and one from my HOD....they all should be pretty strong though..........i hope so at least....... I will be applying for the Sring 06 semester in mechanical and industrial in various colleges...........lets see how it goes........ Thanks a lot for all the help and stay in touch............you never know......i might just get admitted into the same college as you do (god-willing!) btw...........uma???......it that a guys or a girl's name???????????:)
  13. Great admits! Both of them!! Your choice depends on your budget and where you want to specialize in. Congrats!!! Could you please post your profile and other experiences about your admission process. I look to aplply in both colleges in the same fields that you have chosen. Anything you say will be helpful. Thanks in advance!!
  14. you can mail them..........see contact info on http://www.gre.org. but dont count on it.........I gave my GRE on march 7 05 and got my scores on april 15 05.
  15. Well, I did'nt really study from the Big Book and my reply was based on that. Like you said, PP should be taken once you have a good lot of your preperation, which I assumed is towards the end of your study plans!!:)
  16. Thats my story here. Loan will be in Dads name but I hope to pay him off later. Besides its the US. How many Indians have dreamt of going abroad and studying and becoming something. Its not a justified point, but that is what everybody dreams of! Dont you think so???
  17. I already posted the link earlier in this thread. My RC questions were 12,13,14 & 15, 17 & 18, 19 & 20. Three RC's in total. You tend to think that getting a RC in top 10-15 you are doing well, but thats not always true. I have heard of Verbal starting with RC or RCs appearing in the top 5. So don't think too much about it, and how about how you are doing. Leave that to the end of the test. Thinking bout all this does more harm than good. Just concentrate on whatever question is in front of you. More importantly, try and get all qeustions right in the first 15 cause that leads to a great score. Man what are you doing?? You are giving the GRE in June right??? Then why are you doing tests now??? Finish you word lists and quant first. Take the diagnostic test from Barrons to see where your weak points are. Take PowerPrepp only once you have finished all studies, a week before the actual test. Actaully PP is a very good indicator of how you will fare on the test. For the record, my PP scores were: PP1: V-640 Q-760 PP2: V-620 Q-790 Your job is to study now and just stick to that. Don't think so much!!!!
  18. Man I already posted it. Look earlier in the thread. You asleep or what??:sleepy:
  19. Toefl essays are easy. Just type relevant to the topic. Regrading the listening section, you have to concentrate hard or you will love track of what they are saying. You are not allowed to take down notes of their speech. I just did'nt concentrate on my toefl. result 270:crazy:
  20. Man thats an amazing list of admits!! Close your eyes and click on one, its that difficult to seperate them out. Congrats!! By the way, I also plan to apply in these uni in mech. 21. Well it depends on how you feel you are faring on the test. Boring maybe, tiring yes!! And Thanks!
  22. GRE ARGUMENT TEMPLATE http://www.www.urch.com/forums/showthread.php?p=142364#post142364
  23. Hope that helps. If you have any further questions then feel free to ask. Erin: I hope this is not against the law as I have discussed topics from the GRE Pool.
  24. The following appeared in a memorandum from the new president of the Patriot Car manufacturing company. "In the past, the body styles of Patrioit Cars have been old fashioned, and our cars have not sold as well as have our competitor's cars. But now, since many regions in this country report rapid increases in the number of newly liscenced drivers, we should be able to increase our share of the market by selling cars to this growing population. Thus, we should discontinue our oldest models and concentrate instead on manufacturing sporty cars. We can also improve the success of our marketing campaigns by switching our advertising to the Youth Advertising Agency, which has successfullypromoted the country's leading soft drink." The argument concludes that Patriot Cars should discontinue their oldest models of cars and should concentrate on manufacturing sporty cars so as to entice the newly liscenced drivers and thus increasing their maket over their competitors. The author assumes that since the body styles of Patriot Cars were old fashioned, they have not sold as well as their competitors. The author also feels that , as per the reports of rapid increase of newly liscenced drivers in various regions of the country, Patriot Cars can increase their market share by manufacturing sportier cars. The author continues stating the success of the marketing campaigns can be increased by contracting Youth Advertising Agency to market their cars, as that agency had successfully promoted the country's leading soft drink. The argument is full of gaps and loop holes since it presents fragmentary evidence. Neither are the premises convincing nor is the conclusion compelling. The argument is very evidently the result of a hasty generalization. The author clearly commits a non-sequiter fallacy. He feels that Patriot cars lost out to their competitors because of old fashioned body styles of the cars. He fails to take into consideration other factors that might have lowered the image or value of Patriot Cars. For instance, poor engineering, lack of timely and good service, availability of spare parts, general ride and handing or ownership experience may be factors that cause Partiots Cars to sell in small numbers. The conclusion that by changing the body style would improve sale numbers is illogical. The author also commits a faulty analogy by believing that Youth Advertising Agency would help in improving marketing campaigns because the agency successfully promoted the country's leading soft drink. While Youth Advertising Agency may be effective in marketing soft drinks, it is not necessary that would be efficacious in marketing of cars. Also, the agency has had only one successful marketing campaign as mentioned in the argument. The overall success rate of the agency has not be mentioned. This only weakens the argument. Furthermore, the author has based his argument on the premise that the newly liscenced drivers would prefer only sporty cars. It could be possible that the newly liscened drivers are of a older age and might prefer more practical and family cars. Additionally, the reports claim that many regions have shown an increase in newly liscenced drivers. It is not necessary that the region in which the cars of Patriot Car company are marketed would also see a similar rise. Lack of sufficient stastistical data evidently refutes that authors claim. The argument is the result of a huge speculation in which the auhtor has comfortably assumed a considerable amount of data. Had he taken the above discussed factors into view it would have rendered the argument irrefutable. However whatever presented fails to provide a holistic picture to the superfluous claims being made.
