  1. Hi guys, I have seen most of the debriefs on this site and whatever I write will pale in comparision. But still, here it goes: I had started preparing for GMAT last year also but somehow got sidetracked. I am consultant and hence there is a lot of travelling involved which does not leave me with much time to study. I also have a 2 yr old and he cannot see me sitting on a PC or reading a book, at home ;-). I started my studies on July 26th. Started with the Princeton book which was a carry over from last years prep. Finished it. Completed OG10 except for the RC section. My hit rate for all the sections was around 75-80% . I went over the questions that I had gotten wrong and found out why I had been wrong. That was, I think, the single most important part of my preperations. Bought OG11 and completed the PS, DS, SC and part of the critical reasoning. I had heard a lot about the Manhattan verbal GMAT, so I bought that book also and it is a pretty decent book. All the time I used to put in 1-2 hrs each night. Somedays I did not study at all and I tried to put in 5-6 hrs on the weekends. I did not pay much attention to probability and permutations combinations because earlier on I had decided not to waste my time on them. If I got such a question on the real GMAT, I would see if I could solve it in a minute or just guess and move on. I also did part of the 1000 SC and CR's whenever I had time at the office. I used to browse this section of Testmagic to keep my motivation going. I think the most important step in giving the GMAT is in deciding when you are ready. I gave GMAT Prep 1 and got 670. I thought that even if I studied more, unless it was a lot more, my score would not go up dramatically and since I did not have the time to study a lot more, I decided to book a date. When I started looking for dates, all the dates were completely booked at the 4 centers within a 60 miles radius of where I live. There was just opening on Sep 9th at 8 am. I grabbed it and even though I took the appointment, I was skeptical of my ability to perform well as I had been planning for a date 2-3 weeks after Sep 9th. Anyways, Sep 4th was a holiday and I decided to do as much as I could in those 3 days. Put in a lot of hours that weekend. Gave 2 tests on 3rd and 4th and scored 660 and 710 respectively. I just went over my mistakes in the remaining 4 days of the weeks and hardly spent more than 30 mins each day. On D-Day I got up at 4 am and revised all the formulas. Did some problems in each section from the last part of OG11 which were supposed to be the toughest. I really did not practice any RC except maybe 10-11 passages and 5 of those were just before the exam. Reached the center around 7:15 and waited for the center people to open it up. Other test takers started coming and at 7:30 the doors of the center opened. Everyone was asked whether he had come to give the practice GMAT or the real GMAT. Then we were asked to pick up a number and given some reading material about how to take the tests. After that, we were called one by one and photographed and signed in. We were then given lockers and asked to put everything there except the ID. The only thing we could takes inside was the ID and the locker key. Another lady came up and asked who all were ready to start the exam. Three of us stepped up and we were instructed on how to ask for help etc etc. She also gave us earplugs and the writing pad and pen. She fingerprinted us one by one and in we went and were signed in. The exam started with Analysis of Argument in which I think I did pretty well. Wrote down all my points first and then expanded upon them. Cleaned it up and was done in 30 mins. Then came the analysis of issue which was about a very simple topic about hiring people. Finished it up in 25 mins. I had not prepared at all for the above sections at all and I do not think they need much preperation (well...my score will tell). I would really suggest that you take the earplugs and use them as I think there were some gorillas at the center who were banging at the keyboard and that can be really distracting. Also, there were 15-20 people giving the exam at the same center and the earplugs help a lot to insulate from any noises made from their comings and goings. Took my first 9 min break. Used the restroom, ate some chocolate and drank some water. Came back within 5 mins and started quant. First 2 questions were pretty simple. 3 rd was tougher but I think that I got it.Just went uphill from there. Like I said, I thought I was guessing on most of the DS questions. In between I would get a really simple one and I thought that boy, was I screwing up quant big time. There were some trick questions in which you have to be really careful at what is being asked and I think I caught most of them. Finished quant with 30 sec to spare. Raised my hand and got out for my second break. Had some more chocolate and water and came back in for the verbal. I knew that the worst was over. Started with 2 SC. Got them, then came CR and 2 more SC then a small RC. So far so good. More tough SC's and CR's then another RC. This one was bigger and tougher. Finished it and moved on, in the final part I got a 90 line RC which was tough. Had to read it 2-3 times and still I understood only half of it. Did my best to answer the questions and had some more CRs and SC's in the last 4-5 questions. Finished verbal with 10 minutes remaining and I thought that I had done pretty well in verbal. Clicked on next -> next till I got to the score page. All the while I was thinking that I would get 620 or something like that. Saw my score 700 (Q 42 82%, V 40 90%) and was ecstatic. Maybe it is not a good score for some of u but for me it is pretty decent. Maybe I could get 30-40 more if I studied 2-3 months more but I do not think it is worth it. To each his own. Came back home and found that my wife had already kept all the books in the garage ;-). Don't need them anymore unless I fail to enroll within 5 yrs and there is a miniscule chance of that happening. So to all of you striving for this exam, best of luck and au revoir. Thx
  2. Hi all, Just finished my GMAT and scored 700 (Q47, V40). Best of luck to u all.
  3. Hi All, Just came back from the test center. I am pretty happy with this score as I prepared on an off for only 1 and a half months. I thought I had screwed up quant and aced verbal but it was the other way around. Also, I thought that I had guessed on more than half of the quant section and was sure that I would get a very bad score in quant. I gave 2 test exams before the test: GMAT Prep 1- 670 GMAT Prep 1- Seperate installtion - 660 and GMAT Prep 2 - 700. Final thoughts are: THANK GOD IT IS OVER :) .
  4. D Day is on Saturday...9th Sep...Gave GPREP 1 -670 and 660 and GPREP 2- 710. Have almost stopped preparing any more. Just waiting for it to be over.
  5. I think it should be B.C just introduces some redundancy and to me B looks more concise.
  6. Gave GMAT Prep 1 today and scored 670. Both quant and verbal leave a lot to be desired . I am working on OG 10. Maths questions seem simple compared to what I got in the test :(.
  7. Hi All, I am planning to give my GMAT on the 9th of Sep. Started preparing a week ago. Kepping all fingers crossed.
  8. I also got the same answer...22*3600/(1160*45)...
  9. If X is price and Y is cost then XY = 568000 Only Y = 71 is a factor So he sells 71 bikes at the old price Hence he will sell 71-5=66 bikes at the new price. Do I make any sense!!!
  10. A+B=29 a=15 so only combination possible is 14 and 15 Hence B has 15 people and so we can find the cost of B. So 1 alone is sufficient. 2, I think, is rubbish. Hence answer should be A
  11. xy+xz > 0 combining options 1 and 2 if yz>0 then either both r -ve or both r +ve if both r -ve or +ve then from 1 (xyz>0) we know that x also has to +ve but xy+xz might still be Hence I choose E
  12. :hmm: Both A and B are insufficient.
  13. My answers are: E,E,D,B,B,D,A,C,A,D from 1 thru 10 respectively.
  14. They will never meet. So answer is E
  15. C seems to be the most reasonable choice.
  16. I will go with C and A. I think that for Q2 E strengthens the conclusion and does not weaken it in any way.
