SUNY SB should be easy with ur profile. Work ex gives something +ve only. But how much depends on how significant is it to the are u r applying and also how well u present it.

As far as I know, we need to show only first yr expense to get the I 20 issued by the univ but during the visa interview, u hav to prove ur capability to handle the expense during whole course duration. Like in my case its mentioned that course is of 22 months on I 20, and the expense is mentioned for one year. So, I need to show funds for whole 22 months, that is double the yearly expense mentioned on I 20. I hope I made myself clear. The usual trend is to show first yr amount in savings account(ready to spend) and second yr in FDs, PPFs etc. But this I am sure that u've to show that u have enuf funds for total duration.

Thats a good point. I am also wondering about how to decide upon courses. I guess I'll have to anyways take courses of the Prof who is willing to take me in his group(and of crs I wud be interested in those courses). But what are the other issues which we sould think upon while taking the other courses.

Also,not all univ offer admissions for Spring term. So check that out as well. And its very true that theres no aid in Spring. Infact they dont encourage students applying for Spring to a little extent. But its not hard n fast,so u can find the options.

I just read on a site that - "u can schedule an interview date from next working day upto 2 weeksin advance." DDoes this mean that I cant book a date for June if I go to Mumbai on monday?? wud really appreciate if someone can throw any light here.

I really dont know if TSE helps or not. In present scenario, I think the onlything tht matters is whether u applying for MS or PhD. Same person wud get aid if he applies to PhD, so I doubt if its the credentials really. Secondly, u can look for aid friendly universities like UTK etc.

The idea of starting threads to record individual students' records was good. But somehow I feel that we should maintain a university 'encyclopedia' (bcoz 50-60 main univ being there, it'll get quite voluminous). By this I mean that we shud keep records like selected candidates(TMians of crs), rejected candidates, lowest admitted GRE/GPA etc. This is just an idea, it needs to be refined. The significance is that for shortlisting our univ, its very imp for us to know the admit track record of tht univ and to ask ourselves whether we shd really apply to this univ or not. Once the member knows the name of selected candidate, he can directly see their profiles and get an idea. I m putting fwd this point bcoz selecting univ is one of the biggest dilemma till last moment and everything depends on our list of univ in the end. So, if such a reference is available to any student, it shall be really beneficial...what do u say?:boxing: (We can not accomodate all univ in the list obviously but may be the most applied and known ones. )

Truly put by ritwik, awhig and others. I have got NO aid from UIUC and I m not tht well off either. But I wont leave it without giving a struggle. Ultimately when I'll be able to manage those initial years by working on campus + loans + xtra efforts, I'll reap the gains when I get a classy interesting job after MS. Its all about perception. Its all about self-motivation. Rest, presently I m working in one of the top 10 highest paying software company in India but the kind of work is not satisfying me. After all, u want self-satisfaction in life.

I would like to ask all those coming under Mumbai consulate for Visa and who have not yet got their I 20s, what are you planning to do regarding booking the date. Since online dates are already showing for Aug end now, is the only option left to go to Mumbai personally and take the dates???:rolleyes: Does anyone know of any other option?:idea: I am just trying to avoid to go to Mumbai twice. I shall be getting my I 20 within 2-3 days. My visa papers are not yet prepared(also I cant stay for long in Mumbai itself) and so I cant imagine taking the date and appearing for interview in a single go. :( As someone had already mentioned earlier we need I 20 to book date in Mumbai consulate, so dont suggest booking date without I 20.
