  7. say x is speed of A and y is speed of B distance travelled by A in 8 hrs = dist by B in 7 hrs + 12 distance= speed * time so first equation is 8x = 7y + 12 similarly second eq is 9x = 13y - 7 HTH
  8. Erin, I didn't know about the option. Thanks Mary Anitha
  9. Do the big signatures some of us have bother anybody? Not the content but the size. Ifeel some signatures are as big (if not bigger) as the posts themselves. It is very confusing especially if it is a long thread. just an opinion Mary Anitha
  10. i dont know of any specific universities which do that. You can check the websites of the colleges you are interested in. But the performance of the courses taken will surely be considered. they have a minimum GPR requirement in those courses. also try a search with GRE "not required"

  16. we know all the answers Ato D are wrong as we can find examples which prove them wrong (A) a prime number (1*2=2 2 is a prime number) (B) divisible by 11 (10*11 and 11*12 are both divisible by 11) © a multiple of 13 (12*13 and 13*14 are both divisible by 13 (D) an even number less than 10 (2*3 =6 6 is even number So now lets think about choice E for a product to have 4 in its units place the numbers being multiplied should have 2 & 2 or 1 & 4 or 3 &8 0r 6&4 or 9&6 7&2 in their unit's place but if thats so then they cannot be consecutive numbers. So the answer is E
  17. update I received my essay score 5.5 so my final score is 293 Thanks to TestMagic site. Mary Anitha
  18. I am from India too like many other TMites and I studied in an English Medium school. As far as listening section goes, I used to repeat the main idea of the sentence very quickly in my mind. That helped my mind not to get diverted and it also helped me to remember the facts mentioned in the lecture or conversation. I donno if this works for all. But it worked for me. Thanks Mary Anitha
  19. Listening 30 structure 13-30 Reading comprehension 30 score 243-300 Hi all I am very happy with my score and eagerly waiting for my essay score. This is a great site. This forum helped me a lot. It is like being in a coaching class. Thanks to all my fellow students and to the teacher. just want to tell all who are yet to give toefl exam that *it is very important to concentrate during the exam. Especially listening comprehensive section. *Take your practice tests very seriously as if they are the final exams. *it is important to recheck your answers very carefully before you confirm them. i am sure i changed 2-3 answers when i rechecked. *Practice writing as many essays as you can and stick to the 30 minutes time limit. (ofcourse this site is overflowing with the ideas for the essays) i prepared for three weeks for about 3 hours per day on an average including the time i was online browsing TestMagic.com. I used barrons guide with tapes, powerprep sampler(with the 67 ques), TestMagic.com (site and the forum) and the and few other sites like 4tests.com. I strongly believe that the powerprep cd with 2 practice tests would be a GREAT resource for practice. Any questions regarding the test and preparation are welcome. I will post my final result after i get my essay score. the essay i got is #2 in the list. "parents are the best teachers" agree or disagree? Now i am concentrating on GRE. I hope that the GRE forum will be as helpful to me as the TOEFL forum. Many thanks to Mr Erin Billy for the wonderful and resourceful site WISHING ALL THE TOEFL TAKERS THE VERY BEST. Mary Anitha

  21. Hi everybody I am taking toefl exam on jan 31, 03 (i.e., in 2 days). somebody please give your comments on my essay writing. i wrote this essay in exactly 30 mts. i should be faster i guess. I want to know about the following size, intro, appraoch , content, conclusion etc looking forward to your comments ......... Thanks Anitha Some students like classes where teachers lecture (do all of the talking) in class. Other students prefer classes where the students do some of the talking. Which type of class do you prefer? Give specific reasons and details to support your choice. Depending on the teacher, the subject and various other factors such as the size of the class, the time available etc there are different ways of teaching. One of the ways is where the teacher gives a lecture without any student interaction and another way of teaching is where the students also participate by discussion or by asking questions. I prefer the type of teaching where a student is allowed to talk.. The lecture has its own advantages and disadvantages. The teacher can cover a lot of subject in a less amount of time. The class will be quiet and students can concentrate better. The teacher is not diverted from the main topic. On the other hand, students may feel bored listening to the monotonous tone of the teacher and may not grasp and retain what is being taught. An interactive kind of teaching allows the students to express themselves. They are allowed to add their thoughts to the subject being taught. The can raise any questions and doubts they have, immediately in the class. For example a student may not understand a word that the teacher uses very frequently in the class. If he is allowed to talk during the class then he will be able to clear his doubt and can understand the rest of the teaching otherwise he will not understand anything. The interactive class is interesting and also helps the shy students to slowly come out of their shyness and participate in the discussions instead of being passive listeners. Also the teacher gets an idea at which level of understanding the students are, in regard to the subject and can change the standard of teaching. In my opinion the kind of teaching in which the student is allowed to talk, is more efficient and helpful to the student because the student can understand and retain more by active participation rather than passive listening.
  22. thanks Erin Billy and ttaann for your replies. yeah now i understand the concept. BTW this question is from their forum and not from their exercises. Anitha
