I have yet to pick up a GMAT prep book that states COS, TAN, and COTAN are required to solve the geometry problems. Therefore, it is not necessary or required. The GMAT does not require that you manipulate geometric figures specifically using trig.....

You are correct in that the GMAt does not test trig functions. For geometry, the basic principles are tested, and in the example you've given, you would need to know the properties/types of triangles and how to find their angles, perimeters, sides, etc. Good luck!
